Testbeam characterization of a 3D silicon sensor read out by Timepix4

Testbeam results from a $300\,\mu\mathrm{m}$-thick 3D silicon sensor bump-bonded to a Timepix4 ASIC, are presented. The hit detection efficiency, spatial resolution, and timing performance of the 3D sensor are studied for several track angles, bias voltages and charge thresholds. The time measurements are corrected for Timepix4 clock-frequency variations and timewalk, while for the spatial studies, nonlinear charge-sharing corrections are determined. At perpendicular incidence, the time resolution of the 3D detector is equal to $245\,\mathrm{ps}$ with a $97\%$ hit detection efficiency. An optimal angle of $8^\circ$ with respect to the beam direction of the 3D detector was found, in which the time resolution improves by $6\%$ compared to normal incidence, while the hit detection efficiency reaches above $99\%$ and the spatial resolution is approximately $7\,\mu\mathrm{m}$. Intrapixel studies show that a time resolution of $153\,\mathrm{ps}$ at the most probable value of the signal charge can be achieved for hits between the electrodes at normal incidence, while the timing performance of these best-performing regions deteriorate upon sensor rotation. The timing properties at different depths of the 3D sensor have been investigated with tracks at grazing-angle incidence, revealing a dependence of the time resolution along the sensor depth.

Multi-tesla operation of high-temperature superconducting cavities for accelerated axion dark matter searches

Axion haloscopes use radio-frequency cavities immersed in a magnetic field to search for dark-matter axions, which could resolve two central puzzles in fundamental physics: the strong charge-parity problem in quantum chromodynamics and the nature of dark matter. Multi-tesla fields trigger axion-to-photon conversion but induce severe vortex dissipation in standard superconductors, whereas copper cavities are limited by the anomalous skin effect ($Q \lesssim 10^5$). Here, we overcome these barriers by introducing a pole-to-pole 3-dimensional cavity architecture constructed from strain-controlled, mechanically delaminated rare-earth barium copper oxide (REBCO) tapes. By selectively stripping the lossy metallic substrate while utilizing the copper stabilizer as a "conductive backing" we convert the longitudinal assembly gaps into waveguides below cutoff, effectively suppressing cross-seam RF leakage. Employing a two-track strategy, we first unveiled the intrinsic high-field potential of the material with a 5.4 GHz resonant cavity, achieving an unloaded quality-factor ($Q_0$) of $1.4 \times 10^7$ in an 8 T magnetic field, exceeding conventional copper baselines by two orders of magnitude. Second, prioritizing practical haloscope integration, we engineered a tunable, volume-maximized 2.3 GHz pathfinder cavity. Deployed in the Pilot Axion Cavity Experiment at the Center for Axion and Precision Physics Research (CAPP-PACE), this system achieved a 180 mK noise temperature and a 5-fold $Q$ enhancement over copper, cumulatively delivering a $\sim$8.4-fold scan-rate acceleration.

Optimisation of importance sampling implementation in rare-event shielding simulations using Geant4

Rare-event search experiments demand ever-lower backgrounds, and the resulting radio-pure materials and suppressive shielding make related background simulations computationally expensive without event biasing. We present a method for optimising the widely used importance splitting and Russian roulette technique for rare-event searches, in which a whole number of equal-width importance layers fill the shielding geometry. Balancing relative uncertainty against execution time, we optimise the layer thickness for both $\gamma$-rays and neutrons, and across different shielding materials and thicknesses. Expressed as a multiple of the primary particle's mean free path, the optimal thickness generalises across energies for a given particle type and yields a physics-based prediction applicable to any shielding design. The same trend reveals that over-biasing is possible, with relative uncertainty worsening at high layer counts for fixed execution time. The optimal configuration gives an $\mathcal{O}$(20) gain in computational efficiency over the unbiased case.

First Measurement of Near-Threshold J/{\psi} Photoproduction on the Neutron

We report the first measurement of the total and t-differential cross sections for near-threshold J/$\psi$ photoproduction on the neutron, obtained with the CLAS12 detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The measurements, performed using a liquid-deuterium target, also provide the incoherent total and t-differential cross sections on the bound proton, enabling the first direct comparison of near-threshold J/$\psi$ photoproduction on bound protons and neutrons. Interpreted within Vector Meson Dominance, holographic QCD, and GPD-based frameworks, the data allow for the investigation of the gluonic structure of bound nucleons. A comparison with free proton results reveals hints of modifications to the gluon structure of nucleons in the nuclear medium, within the assumptions of the extraction and on the underlying production mechanism. The comparison of bound neutron and bound proton cross sections provides new constraints on the near-threshold J/$\psi$ production mechanism, which is crucial in order to establish J/$\psi$ photoproduction as a probe of the nucleon's gluonic structure.

Study of $K_{S}^{0}$-$K_{L}^{0}$ asymmetry in the decays $D^0 \to K_{S}^{0}\omega $ and $D^0 \to K_{L}^{0} \omega $

Based on $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.93~$fb^{-1}$ collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the absolute branching fractions of the decays $D^0 \to K_{S}^{0} \omega$ and $D^0 \to K_{L}^{0} \omega $ are measured to be $(11.79 \pm 0.19 \pm 0.26 \pm 0.47) \times 10^{-3}$ and ($10.84 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.44) \times 10^{-3}$, respectively. The $K_{S}^{0}- K_{L}^{0}$ branching-fraction asymmetry of these two decays is $R(D^0,K_{S,L}^{0} \omega) = \frac{\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to K_{S}^{0} \omega) - \mathcal{B}(D^0 \to K_{L}^{0}\omega )}{\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to K_{S}^{0} \omega) + \mathcal{B}(D^0 \to K_{L}^{0} \omega)} =(4.2 \pm 1.0 \pm 0.9 \pm 2.8)\%$. Here, the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third arise from the interference between $D^0 \to K_{S,L}^{0} \omega$ and the non-resonant $D^0 \to \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^0 K_{S,L}^{0}$ processes.

CGC-py: A Monte Carlo Event Generator for Gluon Saturation Physics

We develop CGC-py, a Monte Carlo event generator for deep-inelastic scattering. It couples the full Color Glass Condensate (CGC) cross section for $\gamma^*p(A)\to q\bar q+X$ to a Parton-Branching transverse-momentum-dependent backward initial-state shower, while Pythia~8 handles final-state radiation and hadronization. CGC-py retains the complete target-elastic and target-inelastic contributions without taking the back-to-back correlation limit, allowing single- and di-hadron observables to be generated consistently from the same event sample. We validate the generator through an analytic closure test of the single-inclusive quark spectrum and a comparison of charged-hadron spectra in $ep$ collisions with H1 data, finding excellent agreement. The predicted nuclear modification factor $R_{e\mathrm{Au}}^h$ shows the expected saturation pattern: suppression at low $p_T^*$ followed by a rise toward unity at higher $p_T^*$. A comparison with a Pythia~6 baseline, together with an $x_g$-rescaling study, indicates that small-$x$ CGC evolution and collinear DGLAP dynamics contribute comparably to the growth of the dihadron away-side width with energy. Genuine saturation-driven broadening emerges only at the highest energies considered. Within CGC-py, $e\mathrm{Au}$ collisions exhibit an enhanced away-side width and a suppressed back-to-back yield relative to $ep$ collisions. These nuclear effects remain modest over EIC kinematics, motivating measurements at the most forward accessible kinematics and the use of complementary observables to maximize sensitivity to gluon saturation.

Constraints on mu-variations from the methanol CH3OH thermal lines in the Galaxy at galactocentric distances of 1.5 < D_GC < 13 kpc

In this study, constraints are set on hypothetical variations of the fundamental physical constant mu = m_e/m_p - the electron-to-proton mass ratio - based on thermal emission lines of E-methanol (CH3OH) in the 216-220 GHz frequency range. Molecular spectra toward seven massive clouds located across a wide range of galactocentric distances (1.5 < D_GC < 13 kpc) have been analyzed. The obtained weighted mean value <Delta mu/mu> = (0.5+/-0.5)*10^(-7) does not indicate statistically significant changes in mu at the 1 sigma confidence level of 5*10^(-8), which is in good agreement with previously established upper limits in a number of molecular clouds in the Galactic disk.

Reconstruction of Shower-like Events in NEON Using Likelihood and Graph Neural Network Methods

The Neutrino Observatory in the Nanhai (NEON) is a proposed deep-sea neutrino telescope deployed in the South China Sea. Accurate reconstruction of shower-like events is crucial for neutrino energy measurements and multi-messenger astronomy, yet it poses significant challenges due to seawater optical attenuation, irregular detector geometry, and substantial $^{40}\mathrm{K}$ ambient background. In this work, we present the first comprehensive reconstruction framework for shower-like events in NEON, encompassing both a physics-driven maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method and a data-driven Graph Neural Network (GNN). The traditional MLE framework integrates spatial-isochronic hit selection, vertex reconstruction via time-residual M-estimator minimization, and decoupled directional and energy estimation based on pre-computed photon distribution tables. Physical calibrations, including PMT angular acceptance, hit-level time slewing corrections, and an effective line-source shower extension, are incorporated into the likelihood formulation. In parallel, a two-stage GNN is developed to capture intra-DOM PMT correlations and distance-weighted inter-DOM topological patterns. Simulation studies show that the MLE method achieves an overall median angular resolution of $4.19^\circ$ and an energy resolution of 25%-37% over 1 TeV to 1 PeV with negligible systematic bias. The GNN further improves reconstruction fidelity in the low-to-intermediate energy regime, achieving a median angular resolution of $1.8^\circ$ at 30 TeV and an energy resolution of $\sim$ 20% between 40 and 300 TeV. Based on these reconstruction performances, the effective area and point-source discovery potential of NEON are evaluated. This framework establishes an essential reconstruction benchmark for NEON and provides practical methodologies for future next-generation deep-sea neutrino telescopes.

Leading-neutron electroproduction measurements from the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA have been used to constrain pion parton distribution functions (PDFs) at small momentum fractions within the Sullivan one-pion-exchange (OPE) framework, complementing large-$x_\pi$ constraints from pion-induced Drell–Yan measurements. Previous analyses have focused primarily on the region of large neutron longitudinal momentum fraction, $x_L$, where contributions from deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) target fragmentation are suppressed. In this work, we use the Pythia event generator to model the target-fragmentation contribution and show that its combination with the OPE contribution reproduces the main features of the HERA leading-neutron data over the full measured $x_L$ range without introducing additional ad hoc normalization factors. This result demonstrates the potential of incorporating a broader range of leading-neutron data into future global analyses, thereby extending sensitivity to smaller pion momentum fractions $x_\pi$. We investigate the model dependence associated with the pion–nucleon vertex form factor and show that the HERA data are sensitive to different target-fragmentation treatments implemented in Pythia. Finally, we present projections for leading-neutron production at the future U.S. Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), identifying beam-energy configurations and kinematic regions that provide enhanced sensitivity to pion structure while suppressing DIS target-fragmentation contributions.

Feasibility of a collider-based detector search for upward-going fermions produced from gravitationally-bound dark matter within the Earth

Dark matter is theorized to be gravitationally captured within the Earth and to subsequently annihilate into dark photons. The dark photons kinetically mix with the Standard Model photons which would allow the decay of the dark photon to pairs of observable fermions near Earth's surface. We examine the feasibility and sensitivity of an LHC-class general-purpose detector to observe muons originating from these dark matter models. We calculate the expected signal rates at a hypothetical general-purpose detector and examine the effect of significant backgrounds on sensitivity. We also consider experimental efficiencies of such a detector to determine expected limits for the proposed analysis. We find these expected limits constitute a significant improvement over existing ones, strongly motivating a search for upward-going muons stemming from dark matter bound within the Earth.

Energy-Energy Correlators in $Z$-Tagged Jets in $pp$ Collisions

We present predictions for the collinear energy-energy correlator (EEC) measured inside $Z$-tagged jets in proton-proton collisions across the confinement transition. Our framework combines transverse-momentum-dependent factorization for back-to-back $Z+$jet production with an exclusive differential EEC jet function incorporating perturbative evolution and flavor-dependent non-perturbative fragmentation. The EEC jet function is evaluated at $\mathrm{NLL}^{\prime}$ accuracy, with separate quark and gluon non-perturbative scales constrained by existing $e^+e^-$ and inclusive-jet data. We provide predictions for forward $Z+$jet production at $\sqrt{s}=8~\mathrm{TeV}$ and $13~\mathrm{TeV}$ in the jet transverse-momentum intervals $(20, 30)$, $(30, 50)$ and $(50, 100) \, \mathrm{GeV}$. The EEC distributions as functions of $z_\chi$ exhibit finite plateaus at small $z_\chi$, while the corresponding angular distributions display the characteristic turnover associated with the confinement transition. A flavor decomposition shows that this transition becomes increasingly dominated by quark-initiated jets as the jet transverse momentum increases. Forward $Z$-tagged jets therefore provide a clean probe of non-perturbative quark fragmentation and offer a direct test of whether the characteristic confinement scale extracted from $e^+e^-$ collisions remains universal in a hadronic environment.

A Task Force on Strong Coupling Determinations from Event Shapes

The strong coupling constant $\alpha_s$ is a fundamental parameter of the Standard Model. Its precise determination is essential for accurately predicting, studying, and understanding processes at the Large Hadron Collider and future experiments such as the Future Circular Collider. Event shape and correlator observables measured at electron-positron colliders provide one of the cleanest environments for extracting $\alpha_s$, thanks to their sensitivity to $\alpha_s$ and the availability of high-precision data from the Large Electron-Positron Collider. More broadly, such observables provide an ideal setting to develop and test our understanding of the perturbative and non-perturbative elements of Quantum Chromodynamics, which will underpin the field's precision and discovery frontiers for decades to come. Despite these advances, significant discrepancies persist between different determinations of $\alpha_s$ from event shapes, both in the extracted central values and estimated uncertainties. This document motivates the establishment of a dedicated Task Force to coordinate a community-wide effort addressing these open questions. We report on the first two-day meeting held at CERN in November 2025, summarizing the scientific discussion and documenting the experimental analyses identified as priorities during the meeting, as well as the concrete list of tasks to be carried out by the theory community in preparation for future meetings.

Measurement of Differential Cross Sections and Integrated Luminosity using Proton-Proton Elastic Scattering with HADES at T = 4.53 GeV and T = 1.60 GeV

This work presents an investigation of elastic proton-proton scattering based on data collected with the recently upgraded HADES detector using beams of protons with kinetic energies of $T = 4.53$ GeV and $T = 1.60$ GeV impinging on a liquid hydrogen target. This is the first measurement emerging from the upgraded detector setup, including a Forward Detector with straw-tube tracking planes designed for the PANDA experiment. The well-constrained two-body kinematic relations of elastic scattering have been exploited to study the detector alignment, the beam alignment, and to provide the final measurement of the beam energy. In addition, the recorded luminosity of the experiment has been determined by normalizing the HADES data in a range of the squared four-momentum transfer $t$ that overlaps with measurements by previous experiments worldwide. Furthermore, the differential cross sections have been determined over a large range of $t$ from which the slope parameter $B$ is extracted, yielding $B = 8.98 \pm 0.3$ (GeV/$c$)$^{-2}$ and $7.3 \pm 0.1$ (GeV/$c$)$^{-2}$ at $T = 4.53$ GeV and $1.60$ GeV, respectively. This contribution to the world database on elastic proton-proton scattering provides input to theoretical modeling and serves as a reference for luminosity determinations by future experiments in the same energy range.

Branching fraction measurements of $\eta$ and $\eta^\prime(958)$ anomalous decays

Branching fractions of $\eta$ and $\eta'(958)$ anomalous decays are measured using $pp$ collision data at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13\,\text{TeV}$ collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\,\text{fb}^{-1}$. The measured values and upper limits are \begin{align*} \cal{B}(\eta\to\mu^+\mu^-) &= (5.02\pm0.14\pm0.18\pm0.26)\times10^{-6} , \\ \cal{B}(\eta'(958)\to\mu^+\mu^-) &<1.9\times10^{-7} at 90% CL , \\ \cal{B}(\eta\to\pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-) &<5.4\times10^{-7} at 90% CL, \\ \cal{B}(\eta'(958)\to\pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-) &= (2.73\pm0.14\pm0.13\pm0.14)\times10^{-5} , \end{align*} where the uncertainties are, respectively, statistical, systematic, and due to the external branching fraction of the $\phi(1020)\to\mu^+\mu^-$ decay, which is used for normalization. This marks the first experimental search for the $\eta'(958)$ decay, and the most precise measurement of the branching fraction $\cal{B}(\eta\to\mu^+\mu^-)$ to date.

Radiative and Dalitz decays of $\Upsilon(1S)$ in the light of the ATOMKI X17 anomaly

We study the radiative decay $\Upsilon(1S)\to \eta_b\gamma$ and the Dalitz decay $\Upsilon(1S)\to \eta_b e^+ e^-$ within the framework of the Covariant Confined Quark Model. We provide theoretical predictions for the hadronic form factor, the radiative decay constant, and the decay branching fractions. Within the Standard Model we predict $\Gamma(\Upsilon(1S)\to\eta_b \gamma) = 9.3(9)\, \textrm{eV}$ and $\Gamma(\Upsilon(1S)\to\eta_b e^+ e^-) = 4.8(5)\times 10^{-2}\, \textrm{eV}$. The contribution of the hypothetical ATOMKI $X17$ vector boson to the Dalitz channel is also investigated.

Effective Sub-Quantum Readout for Non-Monochromatic Axion Signals in High-$Q$ Haloscopes

The search for wave-like dark matter using microwave cavity haloscopes is constrained by the Standard Quantum Limit, which dictates that phase-preserving linear amplification results in a minimum of one quantum of total system noise for a narrow-band signal. We demonstrate that this limit is effectively halved for a non-monochromatic axion signal coupled to a high-$Q$ cavity. By operating a Josephson Parametric Amplifier such that the cavity resonance is centered exactly at the half-pump frequency, the axion signal symmetrically populates both the signal and idler bands. Through quadrature analysis of the homodyne readout, we show that the incoherent sum of these mirrored spectral components doubles the measured signal power while the vacuum noise remains constant. This operation yields an effective noise limit of 0.5 quanta per frequency bin, translating to an overall effective limit of $1/\sqrt{2}$ quanta after optimal matched filtering.

Search for dark matter particle interactions in an extended nuclear recoil energy window with the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment

We report on a search for dark matter particles interacting with xenon nuclei in an exposure of 2.84 tonne-years with the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment. An extended nuclear recoil energy window up to approximately 270 keV enables searches for effective field theory and inelastic models of dark matter where high-energy recoils account for a larger fraction of the predicted recoil spectrum compared to the nominal spin independent interaction. We observe one event with characteristics consistent with a nuclear recoil of $248\pm23\,\mathrm{(stat)}\pm23\,\mathrm{(sys)}$ keV, in a region where the known background expectation is low. A profile likelihood ratio test finds tension with the background-only hypothesis at a global significance of 2.6$\sigma$ when accounting for look-elsewhere effects, with a maximum local significance of 3.4$\sigma$ across the models tested. We describe the analysis and event of interest, the background model used in the statistical inference, and detail several of the rare background topologies considered.

Strong Constraints on Higgsino Dark Matter from Solar Capture

Higgsino dark matter remains one of the most convincing dark matter candidates. It can exist in a “quasi-Dirac" regime, when the splitting between two Majorana components is on the order of $O(\rm few~\,MeV)$ or less. Owing to the strong gravitational pull of the Sun, the DM particles accelerate to up to $\sim 1400$\,km/sec in the solar core, which allows for inelastic scattering on heavy elements and very effective capture onto solar-bound trajectories. We evaluate the expected flux of the neutrinos from the expected $\chi\chi \to W^+W^-,ZZ$ annihilation for the cosmologically preferred mass, $m_\chi \simeq 1.08$\,TeV while keeping the mass splitting $\delta$ as a free parameter. Confronting it with the non-observation of high-energy neutrinos from the Sun by the IceCube experiment, we obtain a robust limit, $\delta>566$\,keV. These limits exclude the interpretation of the recent LZ event in terms of endothermic inelastic scattering of Higgsino dark matter on xenon nuclei.

Measurement of inelastic scattering $\Lambda(\overline{\Lambda})+p\to\Sigma^{0}(\overline{\Sigma}^{0})+p$ via $e^+e^-\to J/\psi\to\Lambda\overline{\Lambda}$

Using a sample of $(10087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we investigate the inelastic scattering processes $\Lambda+p\to\Sigma^{0}+p$ and $\overline{\Lambda}+p\to\overline{\Sigma}^{0}+p$, exploiting hyperons from $J/\psi\to\Lambda\overline{\Lambda}$ decays as an effective beam and the beam-pipe materials as targets. The processes $\Lambda+{}^{9}\mathrm{Be}\to\Sigma^{0}+p+{}^{8}\mathrm{Li}$ and $\overline{\Lambda}+{}^{9}\mathrm{Be}\to\overline{\Sigma}^{0}+p+{}^{8}\mathrm{Li}$ are measured at a hyperon momentum of $1.074~\mathrm{GeV}/c$, with cross sections of $(10.1\pm1.4_{\rm stat}\pm0.7_{\rm syst})$ mb and $(1.7\pm0.6_{\rm stat}\pm0.4_{\rm syst})$ mb, respectively. Under the assumption of surface-dominated hyperon-nucleus scattering, these measurements are used to extract the corresponding proton-target cross sections. Independently, direct measurements using the hydrogen component of the beam-pipe oil yield $(3.2\pm1.1_{\rm stat}\pm0.5_{\rm syst})$ mb for $\Lambda+p\to\Sigma^{0}+p$ and $(1.5\pm0.5_{\rm stat}\pm0.1_{\rm syst})$ mb for $\overline{\Lambda}+p\to\overline{\Sigma}^{0}+p$, consistent with the indirect determinations. The combined cross sections are $(4.7\pm0.7)$ mb and $(1.1\pm0.3)$ mb, respectively. The $\overline{\Lambda}+p\to\overline{\Sigma}^{0}+p$ signal constitutes the first evidence for anti-hyperon inelastic scattering with baryonic final states, with a significance of $3.1\sigma$. The pronounced difference between the $\Lambda p$ and $\overline{\Lambda}p$ inelastic scattering cross sections provides new experimental constraints on hyperon-nucleon and anti-hyperon-nucleon interactions.

Stringent limits on $C\!PT$- and Lorentz-invariance violation from $B_s^0$ meson decays

Tests of fundamental symmetries, such as $C\!PT$ and Lorentz invariance, provide sensitive probes of physics beyond the standard quantum-field-theory framework. Possible violations of these symmetries are investigated through interference effects in decays of $B_s^0$ mesons to $D_s^-\pi^{+}$ states. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector in 2015-2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of $13~\mathrm{TeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $6~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The results are interpreted within the Standard Model Extension framework, yielding sensitivities to the Lorentz-violating parameter $\Delta a_{\mu}$ at the ${\cal O}(10^{-14})\,\mathrm{GeV}$ level. Without assuming Lorentz-invariance violation, the $C\!PT$-violating parameter $z$ in the $B_s^0$ system is measured to be $\mathcal{R}e(z) = 0.018 \pm 0.016 \pm 0.003$ and $\mathcal{I}m(z) = 0.003 \pm 0.004 \pm 0.002$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These results represent the most precise constraints on $C\!PT$ violation in the $B_s^0$ system.

Recoil Geometry Unmasks Gluon Saturation in Forward $Z^0$ Production

Gluon saturation produces characteristic transverse-momentum broadening in nuclei, but QCD radiation largely washes out this signature. We show that fiducial recoil subtraction turns detector acceptance into a transverse-momentum projector that unmasks the broadening in forward $Z^0$ production. Subtracting the hadronic recoil measured in a chosen rapidity interval from the boson transverse momentum defines a residual momentum. At leading power, the radiative recoil in this interval cancels, while the residual momentum retains sensitivity to the small-$x$ nuclear field. Combining a CGC description of the small-$x$ target with soft-collinear effective theory (SCET) resummation for finite rapidity coverage, we find that a benchmark rapidity coverage $|\eta^{\rm lab}|<2.5$ lowers the effective hard scale from $M_Z\simeq 91.2$ GeV to about $7.5~\mathrm{GeV}$ of the Sudakov evolution. Increasing the saturation scale broadens the residual-momentum distribution and weakens recoil alignment, whereas wider coverage makes the proton–nucleus separation clearer in both observables. Detector geometry thus provides tunable control over perturbative recoil, enabling a probe of nonlinear small-$x$ QCD.

Disc-Based Estimation of the Local Dark Matter Density and Velocity Distribution in IllustrisTNG50

We study the dark matter (DM) density and velocity distribution in the solar neighborhood of Milky Way-like galaxies using the TNG50-1 run of the IllustrisTNG simulation suite. Milky Way-like galaxies are selected according to both their halo mass and their bulge-to-total stellar mass ratio, and the solar-neighborhood region within each galaxy is identified from the positions and number density of stars, so that DM particles associated with the galactic disc are extracted while contributions from the halo component are suppressed. Averaging over the selected galaxies, we obtain a local DM density of $\rho \simeq 0.47\pm0.02~{\rm GeV\,cm^{-3}}$, consistent with the range inferred from observations. The disc-based extraction gives a higher peak density, $0.41\pm0.02~{\rm GeV\,cm^{-3}}$, than the value $0.34\pm0.02~{\rm GeV\,cm^{-3}}$ from a simple distance-based extraction, probably because it excludes the low-density DM in the halo. The width of the density distribution, on the other hand, is nearly unchanged. The velocity distribution is well described by an isotropic Maxwellian with a peak velocity of about $226~{\rm km~s^{-1}}$, close to the value assumed in the standard halo model. The differences in the density and velocity distributions between our disc-based and simple distance-based extractions are not so large as to significantly affect the interpretation of direct-detection experiments.

Observation of $\psi(3686)\to p K^- K_S^0 \bar \Xi^0+c.c.$

Using a sample of $(2.712 \pm 0.014) \times 10^{9}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decay of $\psi(3686)\to p K^- K_S^0 \bar \Xi^0+c.c.$ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of $11.5\sigma$. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be $(2.84\pm 0.40\pm 0.25) \times 10^{-6}$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This measurement extends the experimental information on rare multi-strange $\psi(3686)$ decays and provides an experimental reference for future studies of related decay modes.

Search for the baryonic decay $ D_{s}^{*+} \to \ p \bar{n} $

The first search for the baryonic decay $ D_{s}^{*+} \to \ p \bar{n} $ is performed using $e^+e^-$ collision data taken at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, collected by the BESIII experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb$^{-1}$. No significant signal is observed, and an upper limit on the branching fraction is set to be $1.3\times 10^{-4}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level.

Spin transport in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions

In this mini-review, we provide a brief status report on investigating spin transport phenomena in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions by simulating solutions of the spin- and isospin-dependent Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (SIBUU) transport equation using the test-particle method. We outline the physics foundation and technical approach, summarize our main results and identify key challenges in further studying spin transport within the SIBUU framework. As examples, we show how the global and local spin polarizations of nucleons, the spin splitting of nucleon collective flows as well as flows of light clusters at different spin states can be used to explore interesting new physics associated with the nuclear spin-orbit potential in dense neutron-rich medium. The spin-orbit potential and the rigorous angular momentum conservation are also shown to affect spin-averaged observables. Hopefully the new findings and challenges identified here will stimulate further studies both theoretically and experimentally on spin transport in intermediate-energy heavy-ion collisions.

Comment on arXiv:2608.29450: "First Measurement of Solar Neutrinos through Elastic Neutrino-Electron Scattering at the keV Scale"

The XENONnT Collaboration recently reported a new measurement of the solar \(pp\) neutrino flux via neutrino-electron elastic scattering using a multi-ton-scale liquid xenon detector. We comment here on an important omission in their summary plot.

A PQ-Symmetric High-Scale SUSY Interpretation of the LZ High-Energy Recoil

The 248-keV nuclear-recoil-like event reported by LZ can be interpreted as near-threshold upscattering of 1.08-TeV thermal Higgsino dark matter. A neutral-Higgsino splitting of order $0.3$–$0.35$ MeV places the fixed weak-interaction cross section close to the observed LZ interval and implies electroweak gauginos at ${O}(10^7)$ GeV. This spectrum is compatible with gravity-mediated high-scale supersymmetry and a Kim–Nilles Peccei–Quinn sector. Although the GUT scale is predicted to be lower than the conventional one, proton decay is suppressed due to the high SUSY scale which also solves the conventional CP, flavor, gravitino and moduli problems. Indeed, proton decay may be probed in the future. The PQ symmetry lowers the Higgsino mass below the SUSY scale and also yields a QCD axion that solves the strong-$CP$ problem. If the axion and Higgsino constitute mixed dark matter, the halo-profile-dependent H.E.S.S. limit can be relaxed.

Unveiling QCD Criticality with Cross-Rapidity Net-Baryon Cumulants

Fluctuations of conserved charges are a primary tool in the search for the QCD critical endpoint, but their beam-energy dependence is complicated by global baryon-number conservation, whose influence changes as the experimental acceptance covers different fractions of the collision system. We propose using correlations of net-baryon fluctuations between two separated rapidity windows to exploit the distinct signatures of conservation and critical dynamics. Global conservation produces a negative cross-window correlation, whereas a common long-wavelength critical fluctuation produces a positive one. We show that, within a canonical independent-source framework, the conservation-induced background and the critical signal enter additively at leading order, allowing the leading conservation term to be estimated and subtracted. The resulting yield-scaled correlator follows the nonmonotonic enhancement of an Ising-mapped equilibrium correlation length along a freeze-out trajectory passing near a hypothetical critical endpoint, while wider rapidity windows reduce the response through thermal smearing. Cross-rapidity cumulants therefore provide a rapidity-differential strategy for reducing the leading conservation background and sharpening fluctuation-based searches for QCD criticality in beam-energy-scan experiments.

SN1987A constraints on the neutrino-dark-fermion interaction from resonant scattering with C$\nu$B

Neutrino self-interactions mediated by a light scalar offer a compelling resolution to cosmological tensions and may naturally arise in neutrino mass generation mechanisms. When the scalar also couples to a light dark-sector fermion, supernova neutrinos can resonantly annihilate with the cosmic neutrino background (C$\nu$B) into invisible dark radiation, depleting the flux en route to Earth. We use this depletion to constrain the neutrino-scalar coupling from the SN1987A data. Within a Bayesian framework we analyze the data for two supernova neutrino emission models, a parameterized model and a 2D hydrodynamic simulation, and for two coupling types, a mass-independent one and a mass-proportional one. Our results show that new-physics limits from SN1987A cannot be quoted independently of the heavy-flavor emission, the flavor conversion, or the coupling structure. Finally, we forecast that a future high-statistics burst recorded by Hyper-Kamiokande would restore a meaningful upper bound even when flavor conversion is included.

Comment on "Environmental memory effects and quantum resource hierarchies in polarized hyperon–antihyperon systems"

We comment on the recent work [Eur. Phys. J. C 86, 988 (2026)], which investigates quantum resources in polarized hyperon–antihyperon systems using correlated dephasing channels with memory. Although the use of experimentally reconstructed spin-density matrices to characterize quantum correlations in hyperon production may be a good motivation, we argue that the interpretation of the hyperon–antihyperon pair as an open quantum system undergoing correlated environmental decoherence is not physically established. In particular, no physical environment or system–environment interaction responsible for the assumed correlated dephasing channel is identified, and hadronization cannot simply be interpreted as such an environmental dephasing process. Consequently, the claimed non-Markovianity, information backflow, and memory-assisted protection of quantum resources should be regarded as properties of a phenomenological channel rather than established physical effects in hyperon–antihyperon production. We also identify several technical and conceptual issues concerning the dephasing dynamics, entanglement quantification, basis dependence of coherence, and the claimed hierarchy of quantum resources. These issues call for a substantial revision of the physical interpretation and quantitative conclusions of the work. We hope that the present Comment will help clarify the distinction between phenomenological quantum-channel modeling and physically established dynamical mechanisms in high-energy particle systems, and thereby provide useful guidance for future studies and help avoid similar conceptual and technical issues.
