Homological critical points for hypergraphs and simplicial complexes

In this paper, we study the homological critical points for persistence hypergraphs and persistence simplicial complexes. With the help of the relative homology groups, we define the homological critical points for persistence morphisms between persistence hypergraphs and persistence simplicial maps between persistence simplicial complexes. We prove some commutative diagrams of subset relations for the homological critical points of persistence hypergraphs as well as persistence morphisms between them. We also prove some commutative diagrams of subset relations for the homological critical points of persistence simplicial complexes as well as persistence simplicial maps between them. As examples, we use the parametric configuration spaces to construct the parametric independence complexes as the space of parametric packings and construct the parametric dominating hypergraphs as the space of parametric coverings.

Equivariant Homotopy Interleaving and Persistent Whitehead Theorem

Let $G$ be a finite group. In this article, we develop some results of equivariant persistent homotopy theory for persistent $G$-spaces. We introduce the notions of $G$-stable and $G$-homotopy invariant distances and define the $G$-homotopy interleaving distance, an equivariant analogue $d^G_{HI}$ of the homotopy interleaving distance of Blumberg and Lesnick. We prove that this distance $d^G_{HI}$ is $G$-stable and $G$-homotopy invariant and establish its universality by showing that it dominates any such distance. We further prove a version of equivariant persistent Whitehead theorem relating interleavings of equivariant persistent homotopy groups to $G$-homotopy interleavings of persistent $G$-spaces. We also prove an equivariant persistent nerve lemma for equivariant good covers of persistent $G$-spaces. As a consequence, we obtain an equivariant weak law of large numbers for filtrations, providing a homotopy-theoretic consistency result for random filtrations equipped with finite group of symmetries.

Nonabelian Torus Exteriors in $\mathbb S^4$ and Torus Replacement in Four-Manifolds

We study torus-exterior replacement in four-manifolds, with the construction controlled by the peripheral homomorphism. Using torus exteriors arising from the work of Boyle and Kanenobu-Kazama, with explicitly controlled fundamental groups and peripheral systems, we construct smooth homotopy 4-spheres and manifolds homeomorphic to S^2 x S^2 and \#_3(S^2 x S^2). We also study direct gluings of two torus exteriors. A swap gluing of two one-null exteriors kills both meridians and gives a simply connected manifold with Euler characteristic \(4\) and signature \(0\), while a meridian-preserving gluing of doubly-null exteriors retains the complement groups as an amalgam over the meridian subgroup. Twisted peripheral gluings give cyclic and explicit finite nonabelian fundamental groups. We also consider the full Kanenobu-Kazama \(1\)-handle family and Litherland tori with full-rank peripheral subgroup; the latter have no null primitive boundary slope and lead naturally to amalgamated-product fundamental groups.

COMPLEX: A Closed-Form Certified Embedding of Multiparameter Persistence Modules

Every multiparameter persistence vectorization we know of carries a one-sided Lipschitz upper bound and nothing below it: without a lower gauge there is no sense in which the features are faithful, and no per-prediction guarantee can be built on them. This paper supplies the missing side. COMPLEX is a closed-form, training-free embedding of multiparameter modules – slice the module along a fixed near-diagonal net, embed each slice barcode by the certified PLACE/PALACE landmark map, concatenate. Under a checkable witnessing-slice coherence condition, holding on 100% of audited pairs on Orbit5k, a single slice carries a closed-form lower gauge: separated modules stay separated in the embedding. With the standard upper bound this gives, to our knowledge, the first two-sided distortion bound for a multiparameter feature map, making faithfulness measurable. Measuring it, we find the floor tight within a small factor of realized distances yet operationally local: an RBF-SVM reaches 91% where 1-NN reaches 78% on the same features. Local per-prediction certification therefore fails for a structural reason common to every landmark embedding whose lower gauge is witnessed by one coordinate. With no learned embedding and no held-out calibration – only a cross-validated SVM head – COMPLEX sets the state of the art on both Orbit benchmarks (91.95% on Orbit5k, 92.98% on Orbit100k), level with or above Euler-characteristic surfaces and above transformers and graphcode. On graphs it exceeds GRIL on all four shared molecular benchmarks with one fixed configuration, including the only multiparameter method to clear COX2's majority baseline by more than three points. Closed-form selection – of the landmark radius, the kernel (certificate-preserving), and the bifiltration set – buys further accuracy; gradient-shaped adaptation buys none.

Bousfield–Kan Completions of Subcontractible Presentations

We study Bousfield–Kan completions through the interaction of free simplicial resolutions, their filtration spectral sequences, and a noncommutative arithmetic square. For every free discrete simplicial group of finite type, we express its integral pronilpotent completion as the homotopy pullback of its rational prounipotent completion and the product of its pro-$p$ completions over an explicit adelic simplicial group. The adelic entry is formed by taking restricted products at finite nilpotent stages and then their inverse limit; no nilpotency assumption on the original group of components is required. Finite subpresentations of contractible presentations provide an explicit application of this construction. Independence of the specified relators makes the positive-degree terms of the rational and mod-$p$ filtration spectral sequences vanish, with convergence verified on the quotient towers. Continuous comparison of free simplicial resolutions then realizes, in characteristic zero, the equivalence with a constant free prounipotent group by morphisms and homotopies in that category. For the corresponding presentation complex $K$ we obtain $R_\infty K\simeq K(F_R(Z),1)$ for $R=\mathbb Q,\mathbb F_p,\mathbb Z$, where $Z$ indexes a complementary basis and $F_R(Z)$ denotes, respectively, the rational points of a free prounipotent group, a free pro-$p$ group, or a free pronilpotent group. Compatible contractions at the nilpotent stages identify all four entries of the arithmetic square in this case.

Continuous Comparison of Free Simplicial Prounipotent and Pro-$p$ Resolutions

We give a continuous version of the comparison theorem for free simplicial resolutions in the categories of prounipotent groups over a field of characteristic zero and of pro-$p$ groups. The resolutions carry free bases compatible with degeneracies; their ranks may be infinite. In characteristic zero the lifting step follows from continuous linear splittings and the universal property of completed free Lie algebras. In the pro-$p$ case it follows from the classical projectivity of free pro-$p$ groups. A relative lifting argument and an explicit simplicial cylinder establish homotopy uniqueness. We formulate the free bases using actual surjections in the simplex category, so degeneracy words related by simplicial identities are identified from the outset, and we spell out the full matching objects used in the lifting argument. The question arose naturally in our preceding work on Bousfield–Kan completions of subcontractible presentations.

Holes in planar parallel sets: An integrated Betti-number bound and its pointwise failure

Let A be a nonempty compact subset of the plane and let A (r) be its parallel set at distance r. We prove that the number of holes of A (r) the number of bounded components of its complement, which is its rst Betti number satises $\infty$ r 0 $\beta$1(A (r) ) dr $\le$ 4050 (diam A) 4 r -3 0 for every r0 > 0, the integrand vanishing for r $\ge$ diam A/ $\sqrt$ 3. The proof rests on Fu's theorem that the critical values of the distance function of a planar compact set form a set of vanishing half-dimensional Hausdor measure, on two lemmas of Rataj, Spodarev and Meschenmoser, and on a square-root summability estimate for the gaps of the critical-value set, of which we give a complete proof. We show by an explicit family of curves two combs facing each other that no analogous bound can hold at a xed radius: a connected curve of bounded length, diameter, oscillation count, parallel-set area and parallel-set perimeter can have arbitrarily many holes at one radius, so the integrated estimate cannot be replaced by a xed-radius bound in terms of these coarse geometric quantities. We also bound the hole count uniformly in the radius by the number of components of local maxima of the distance function, and record a bound on the boundary length of a parallel set by its area. The results supply the deterministic input for limit theorems on the persistent homology of the Wiener sausage.

Character theory for 2-representations

Group representations very comfortably admit a higher categorical generalization. This includes induction and restriction for 2-representations that very directly parallel classical definitions. An appropriate character theory for 2-representations has been more opaque. In this paper we draw from a range of motivations to provide an intuitive character theory for 2-representations. It is built from the bicategorical trace developed to describe topological fixed point theory. We use the secondary traces of Ben-Zvi and Nadler which connect to Riemann-Roch and Lefschetz-type theorems in the context of differential graded categories and Fourier-Mukai transforms. Additional sources of motivation include Lipmans' work on Grothendieck duality and, crucially, the Bartlett and Ganter–Kapranov approaches to characters. (The second of these was in turn motivated by Hopkins, Kuhn and Ravenel's work on equivariant Morava $E$-theories.) Our characters are compatible with restriction and induction and, in cases that are sufficiently finite, admit a secondary character.

Products in absolute Hodge cohomology and mixed Hodge formality

Given a complex algebraic variety, we relate the product structure on its absolute Hodge cohomology with mixed Hodge formality, a notion of formality in the sense of rational homotopy, that takes into account the mixed Hodge structures present in complex algebraic geometry. Namely, we prove that mixed Hodge formality implies the splitting of absolute Hodge cohomology as a square-zero extension. We define and study certain products, akin to Massey products, which live in the absolute Hodge cohomology and obstruct its splitting. We also relate mixed Hodge formality to the existence of multiplicative Chow-Künneth decompositions.

Arboricity and Simplicial Geometric Category of Wedges and Joins of Graphs

We investigate the behavior of arboricity under two fundamental graph operations, namely wedges and joins, proving an exact formula for wedges and establishing general upper and lower bounds for joins. Using the characterization of the simplicial geometric category of connected graphs in terms of arboricity, we derive a wedge formula for simplicial geometric category and obtain corresponding estimates for graph joins. Finally, we illustrate these results through explicit computations for several classes of graphs by constructing forest decompositions and the associated covers by strongly collapsible subcomplexes.

Cocompactness and Presentability

We give a short proof that $\kappa$-cocompact objects in a presentable category are subterminal. As our main result, we extend this to the setting of presentable $\infty$-categories. A consequence is that an $\infty$-category $\mathcal{C}$ such that both $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{C}^\mathsf{op}$ are presentable is a small complete lattice, extending a classical theorem of Gabriel-Ulmer. Along the way, we prove a nilpotence result for phantom maps in general pointed presentable $\infty$-categories. Additionally, we show that a strengthening of our main result is equivalent to the existence of a proper class of measurable cardinals.

Representation stability of string links and manifold links

We prove representation stability for rational cohomology of spaces of string links and manifold links in Euclidean space as the number of links grows. For string links we consider the component of the standard embedding of disjoint copies of $\mathbb{R}^{m}$ into $\mathbb{R}^{d}$, where $m \geq 1$ and $d \geq m+3$. For manifold links we consider the component determined by disjoint copies of a fixed embedding of a closed smooth $m$-manifold into $\mathbb{R}^{d-2}$, where $d \geq 3$. In both cases, the rational cohomology groups form finitely generated $\mathrm{FI}^{\#}$-modules in each degree with generation arity at most $n\frac{d-2}{d-m-2}$ in degree $n$. We also obtain explicit generation bounds for the rational homotopy groups. The proofs combine geometric constructions of structure maps, hairy graph complex models for embeddings modulo immersions and a functorial framework that allows generation bounds to be established after forgetting the symmetric group actions.

New families of moment-angle manifolds diffeomorphic to connected sums of products of spheres

We prove that the moment-angle manifold $\mathcal Z_{\mathcal K}$ is diffeomorphic to a connected sum of products of spheres when $\mathcal K$ is a starshaped (in particular, polytopal) 3-dimensional simplicial sphere with exactly two missing edges that are not adjacent to each other. One of the summands of the connected sum is a product of three spheres. For neighbourly starshaped simplicial spheres $\mathcal K$ of odd dimension, we prove the diffeomorphism $\mathcal Z_{\mathcal K} \cong M_1\#\cdots\# M_k$, where each $M_i$ is a product of two spheres. We give an explicit description of the moment-angle manifolds corresponding to non-polytopal Barnette and Brückner spheres.

Microlocal perverse schobers and Radon transform

Perverse schobers are a categorification of perverse sheaves, originally proposed by Kapranov and Schechtman. The purpose of this paper is to initiate a microlocal study of perverse schobers. We first categorify $\operatorname{Perv}(\mathbb{C},R)/\operatorname{Loc}(\mathbb{C})$, the category of perverse sheaves on a complex line with singular points at $R$, modulo local systems. We use this to propose a general definition for microlocal perverse schobers supported on the open conormal to a germ of a hypersurface, and we conjecture that this is invariant under Radon transform. Here we make the key observation that while the analogous quotient of perverse schobers $\mathsf{2Perv}(\mathbb{C},R)/\mathsf{2Loc}(\mathbb{C})$ is a reasonable categorification, the resulting theory fails to be invariant under Radon transform. In fact, our proposed categorification can be recovered by correcting an instance of this failure in a universal manner. We prove Radon invariance when our hypersurface is the curve $y^m=x^n$ in $\mathbb{C}^2_{x,y}$. Along the way, we explain how our theory relates to Fourier transforms of perverse schobers, periodic SODs, and spherical monads.

A Universal Law of Large Numbers for Extreme Cycles in Random Čech Complexes

We study the maximal multiplicative persistence of $k$-cycles in random Čech complexes. Let $f:\mathbb{R}^d\to\mathbb{R}$ be a probability density function, let ${P}_n$ be a Poisson process with intensity $nf$, and let $\Pi_{k,n}$ denote the largest death-to-birth ratio among all non-essential $k$-cycles ($1\le k \le d-1$). For the uniform distribution in the unit hypercube, it was proved in [9] that $\Pi_{k,n} = \Theta\left( \left(\frac{\log n}{\log\log n}\right)^{1/k}\right)$. In this paper we sharpen and extend this result to a law of large numbers, for a broad class of distributions. Most significantly, we show that the limiting constant depends only on $d$ and $k$, and not on the probability density $f$. Thus the extreme value of multiplicative persistence exhibits a universality phenomenon. We show that the limiting constant is determined by the asymptotic covering density of the $k$-dimensional sphere. Our proof identifies the geometric mechanism underlying maximal cycles, a persistent isoperimetric inequality, which gives sharp bounds on the number of points needed to generate a highly persistent cycle. By combining covering-density estimates with isoperimetric inequalities, we show that this minimum is asymptotically attained by efficient coverings of a $k$-sphere. A key ingredient is a geometric measure theory argument that uses compactness to relate discrete covering counts to the volume of a limiting cycle.

$H\mathbb{Z}/4$ is not an $\mathbb{E}_2$-Thom Spectrum over the $2$-Complete Sphere Spectrum

For any prime number $p$, the classic Hopkins-Mahowald theorem asserts that $H\mathbb{Z}/p$ is an $\mathbb{E}_2$-Thom spectrum over the $p$-complete sphere spectrum. Kitchloo extended this result to show that $H\mathbb{Z}/p^k$ is an $\mathbb{E}_2$-Thom spectrum over the $p$-local sphere spectrum, except for the case when $(p, k) = (2, 2)$. We solve the remaining case by showing that $H\mathbb{Z}/4$ is not an $\mathbb{E}_2$-Thom spectrum over the $2$-complete sphere spectrum, and consequently the $2$-local sphere spectrum. This work was developed with substantial assistance from GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-6 Astra, and an early draft was subsequently reviewed using Claude Fable 5.1.

Condensed Brown Comenetz Duality

We construct an involutive duality on condensed spectra with locally compact homotopy groups, extending classical Pontryagin duality. We prove that dualization induces Pontryagin duality on homotopy groups, with degrees reversed, and that the canonical biduality map is an equivalence. In particular, every ordinary spectrum, viewed as a discrete condensed spectrum, satisfies biduality, without any finiteness assumptions on its homotopy groups.

Affine Fixed Points on Flat Manifold Pairs

In this paper we consider affine selfmaps of compact flat manifold pairs. We derive an explicit formula for the relative Nielsen number in terms of the ambient holonomy and the holonomy carried by the stabilizer of the lifted submanifold. The formula extends the flat specialization of Wong's nilmanifold-pair formula to finite holonomy, agrees with the author's earlier model-solvmanifold-pair formula on the flat overlap, and extends beyond it. We also show that the stabilizer holonomy cannot in general be replaced by the intrinsic holonomy of the submanifold. Examples exhibit interesting Schirmer theory and include flat pairs outside the model-solvmanifold class.

An Equivariant Landweber Exact Functor Theorem for Abelian Compact Lie Groups

We prove an equivariant Landweber exact functor theorem for abelian compact Lie groups $G$. For a graded module $N$ over the $G$-equivariant Lazard ring $L_G$, we give necessary and sufficient algebraic conditions on $N$ for the functor \[ X\longmapsto (MU_G)_*(X)\otimes_{L_G} N \] to define a homology theory on the category $\mathrm{Sp}^G$ of genuine $G$-spectra. Our criterion is obtained by varifying the Landweber exactness on each stratum indexed by a closed subgroup of $G$ and then gluing the local flatness data via Euler classes. As an application, we show that for any non-equivariant Landweber exact ring spectrum $E$, $MU_G\wedge_{MU} E$ is equivariantly Landweber exact, thereby proving a conjecture of Wisdom.

Free bifibrations of $(\infty,2)$-categories, 2-simplicial objects and the walking adjunction

In this work, we develop a fibrational approach to freely adjoining adjoints in an $(\infty,2)$-category. We construct the universal bifibration obtained from a cocartesian fibration of $(\infty,2)$-categories by adjoining cartesian lifts over a chosen class of $1$-morphisms in the base. We then use this construction to provide an explicit model for freely adjoining adjoints, together with a zig-zag formula for the resulting mapping $(\infty,1)$-categories. As applications, we give a model-independent proof of the universal property of the walking adjunction, providing an alternative proof of a theorem of Riehl–Verity, and establish the universal characterization of the simplex $2$-category conjectured by Dyckerhoff–Kapranov–Schechtman–Soibelman.

Logarithm of the Universal Two-Valued Formal Group

We solve the long-standing problem of determining the exact denominators of the coefficients of the logarithm $B(x)=x+\sum_{n\geq1}b_nx^{n+1}$, obtained from the universal formal group of complex cobordism by the modulus square construction: $$ b_n=\frac{C_n}{d_n},\qquad d_n=\frac{n+1}{2}\operatorname{lcm}(1,\ldots,2n+2), $$ where $C_n\in\Omega_{\mathrm U}^{-4n}$ is primitive and undecomposable. We prove that $C_n$ belongs to the coefficient ring $\Lambda$ of the universal two-valued law and to the subring $\Lambda_{\mathrm{St}}$ generated by quotient Stong manifolds, and give an explicit integral Stong manifold formula for it. The rational lift of $b_n$ to quaternionic cobordism modulo torsion has exact denominator $2d_n$. Consequently, $C_n$ has no integral quaternionic lift, whereas $2C_n$ does. Every Chern number of $C_n$ is divisible by $d_n$, and $c_{2n}(C_n)=d_n$. We introduce odd genera $\mathrm{Bc}_N$. For $N\geq n$, $\mathrm{Bc}_N$ detects the odd part of $d_n$. Its restriction to the Stong ring is integral exactly for $N\leq3$, while the universal odd genus $\mathrm{Bc}_{\infty}$ takes values there with only odd denominators. For every $n\geq5$, we construct undecomposable classes in $\Lambda^{-4n}$ with equal Ochanine genera and top Chern numbers but distinct $\mathrm{Bc}_3$ values. Finally, the oriented extension of $\mathrm{Bc}_3$ is integral on closed spin manifolds of real dimension below $24$ and on closed string manifolds of real dimension at most $24$. The spin bound is sharp: an Anderson-Brown-Peterson spin $24$-manifold has nonintegral $\mathrm{Bc}_3$ genus.

Integral cohomology of classical Artin groups: spherical types $A,C,D$ and affine types $\widetilde B,\widetilde C,\widetilde D$

We determine the additive structure of the integral cohomology groups with trivial coefficients of the Artin groups in the spherical families $A_n,C_n,D_n$ and the affine families $\widetilde B_n,\widetilde C_n,\widetilde D_n$. We first compute the integral cohomology of braid groups by algebraic methods and then use the Salvetti complexes to express the cohomology of the remaining families in terms of these computations. The resulting descriptions apply in every admissible rank. For each family, we establish cohomological stabilization and show that the integral cohomology groups contain no elements of order $p^2$ for any prime $p$. We also give uniform generating series formulas describing the stable integral cohomology in terms of that of the braid groups.

Topological Characteristics for the Analysis of Vector Fields. New stable characteristics for discrete and continuous dynamical systems

The qualitative analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems relies on identifying geometric and topological structures that govern phase-space organization. We develop a computational framework based on novel topological and geometric descriptors of vector fields that enables robust comparison of dynamical regimes from both analytical models and sampled data. The framework comprises the Begin-End Point Embedding (BEPE), Density of Directions (DOD) and Euler characteristic-based summaries (Euler Characteristic Curve (ECC) and Euler Characteristic Profile (ECP)). BEPE captures local variations in vector field, while DoD characterizes the global organization of vector directions. ECCs and ECPs provide filtration-based topological summaries of vector-field structure, with ECPs extending these summaries to multiparameter settings. Together, these descriptors encode complementary geometric and topological information about flow organization. We formulate both continuous and sampled versions of the descriptors and establish their robustness with respect to perturbations, finite sampling and selected transformations. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated on a collection of benchmark systems (the Hopf bifurcation, the FitzHugh-Nagumo model, the Lorenz system). Experiments on the discrete Hénon map demonstrate the applicability of the framework to displacement fields generated by discrete dynamical systems, while experiments on high-dimensional turbulent flows assess its scalability beyond low-dimensional phase spaces. Comparisons with classical approaches, including Conley-index-based methods and $L_p$-type metrics, show that the proposed descriptors provide complementary structural information while offering favorable robustness, interpretability and computational efficiency, establishing a practical connection between dynamical systems theory and topological data analysis.

Generating hypotheses along the motivic deformation

At every prime $p$, we disprove the algebraic generating hypothesis for compact objects in Hovey's stable category of $BP_*BP$-comodules and its local analog at every positive height, answering questions of Barthel and Heard. In both settings, for every $r,n\geq1$, we construct a ghost whose first $n$ composition powers are all nonzero and have exact additive order $p^r$. The same construction applies to the stable category of $E_*E$-comodules for even $p$-local Landweber exact theories $E$ that are not rational. Through the motivic deformation of Gheorghe–Wang–Xu, these examples give $C\tau$-linear counterexamples to the cellular $\mathbb{C}$-motivic generating hypothesis, with the same order and composition properties. We also construct nonzero non-$C\tau$-linear ghosts between $C\tau$-modules and a nonzero ghost on a motivic spectrum with noncontractible Betti realization.

$\mathbb{Z}$-Torus Exteriors and Small Knot-Surgery Four-Manifolds

We study a cut-and-paste operation in which torus neighborhoods in the author's symplectic building blocks $Y_K$ and $X_K$, associated to a genus-one fibered knot $K$, are replaced by marked exteriors of tori in $S^4$ with infinite cyclic complement group and two null peripheral slopes. We also recall the exact Luttinger-surgery realization of $M_K\times S^1$ from $\Sigma_g\times T^2$, keeping the knot-surgery/fiber-sum and Luttinger-surgery viewpoints in the same framework. For the trefoil block $Y_K$, two marked replacements give a simply connected manifold with intersection form $H$, hence a manifold homeomorphic to $S^2\times S^2$. A one-exterior gluing gives a smooth homotopy $4$-sphere. For the rank-six construction we use the identity double of two copies of $Y_K\setminus\nu\Sigma_2$, rather than the involutive gluing defining the original $X_K$. Two marked replacements along the surviving rim tori give a simply connected manifold with $e=8$ and $\sigma=0$. An explicit geometric basis has intersection form $3H$, so the resulting manifold is homeomorphic to $\#_3(S^2\times S^2)$. The Case II small-perturbation Seiberg–Witten invariant vanishes. Essential quotients of the cohomology of products of symmetric and alternating groups

We calculate the quotient of the mod-two cohomology of a product of symmetric and alternating groups by the ideal of negligible elements, namely those that restrict trivially to any order-two subgroup. This quotient arises in the study of cohomological invariants of fields, as by work of Serre the ideal of negligible elements coincides with the ideal of elements that pull back trivially in Galois cohomology. Our calculations answer questions recently posed to us by J-P. Serre, whose recent results we build on. It is a pleasure to share these results on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
