Martingale central limit theorems in $p$-Wasserstein distance

We obtain multivariate martingale central limit theorems in $p$-Wasserstein distance with respect to the $\ell_r$ norm in $\mathbb{R}^d$ for $p\geq 1$ and $r\in [1,\infty]$, which generalize the results for $p=1$ and $r=2$ in the literature. As corollaries, we obtain the Yurinskii coupling and Cramér-type moderate deviation results. We also provide an illustrative application to the stochastic gradient descent algorithm. To prove our main results, we combine Lindeberg's swapping argument with a new Gaussian convolution inequality controlling the $p$-Wasserstein distance between a Gaussian convolved with a perturbation and the Gaussian with matching mean and covariance matrix. The latter is obtained by developing the recent line of research on $p$-Wasserstein bounds.

A counterexample to an open problem of Dorff

The classical Pólya-Schoenberg conjecture, proved by Ruscheweyh-Sheil-Small, asserts that the convolution of two normalized convex univalent functions is again convex. This property fails to carry over to planar harmonic mappings. In 2001, Dorff posed the open problem whether the self-convolution of a normalized convex harmonic mapping with bounded image must remain in the same class. We construct a normalized sense-preserving harmonic diffeomorphism that maps the unit disk onto an ellipse; its self-convolution has vanishing Jacobian at some interior point of the unit disk, which provides a negative answer to Dorff's open problem.

Fourth-Order Fusion Asymptotics for $\mathrm{Sine}_\beta$ Correlation Functions

We compute the fourth-order correction to the full-collision asymptotics of the correlation functions of the $\mathrm{Sine}_\beta$ process. For $m \ge 2$ and $m\beta > 3$, the normalized correlation has an expansion through order $\epsilon^4$, with an explicit rational coefficient depending on the centered profile only through its fourth power sum and the square of its second power sum. The remainder is $o(\epsilon^4)$, locally uniformly in the collision profile. We evaluate the required fourth inverse moments of the Hua-Pickrell environment by finite-dimensional Ward identities and prove their convergence using characteristic-polynomial derivative bounds. A fourth-order expectation-Taylor lemma handles the full range $m\beta > 3$ without requiring fourth moments of every analytic derivative. For general unitary ensembles with a $C^4$ confining potential and a regular bulk point, we prove convergence of the finite-particle fusion coefficients through fourth order and a joint second-order limit, using complex kernel universality and divided differences. This unitary result imposes no fused-environment hypotheses. For arbitrary $\beta$, we retain a conditional quadratic transfer criterion.

A Complex Structure on A Rational Homology Six-Sphere with Two-Torsion

We construct a compact, smooth, simply connected complex threefold. Its second and third integral homology groups are cyclic of order two, and its remaining homology groups agree with those of the six-sphere.

Basins of attraction and escape in the Lozi map

For the Lozi map $L_{a,b}$, we consider parameter pairs for which the fixed point $X$ in the first quadrant has no homoclinic points and the period-two orbit $\{P,P'\}$ is attracting. For such parameters, let $\ell$ denote the set of accumulation points of the unstable manifold $W_X^u$ that do not belong to $W_X^u$. We completely classify the forward asymptotic behavior of points in the phase space. The forward orbit of every point in the plane either converges to $X$, to the other fixed point $Y$ in the third quadrant, or to $\ell$, or it escapes to infinity. The global phase space is organized by the stable manifolds of the fixed points: $W_Y^s$ separates the basin of $\ell$ from the region of escaping orbits, while $W_X^s$ is the exceptional set of points whose orbits converge to $X$. In particular, if $\mathcal{A}_1$ denotes the component of $\mathbb{R}^2 \setminus W_Y^s$ containing $X$, then $\mathcal{A}_1 \setminus W_X^s$ is precisely the basin of attraction of $\ell$.

Shorter proof of dimension-free $L^p$ estimates for maximal Riesz transforms

We provide a shorter and more direct proof of $L^p$ estimates for maximal Riesz transforms (of an arbitrary order) in terms of the corresponding Riesz transforms, with a constant independent of the dimension of the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^d$. This result was originally proved by Mateu, Orobitg, Pérez and Verdera with a constant depending on the dimension, and improved to a dimension-free inequality by Kucharski, Wróbel and Zienkiewicz.

Kriesell's conjecture for infinite graphs

Let $G$ be a graph and $S\subseteq V(G)$ be a subset of vertices. An $S$-Steiner tree $T$ of $G$ is a tree of $G$ which contains $S$ in its vertex set $V(T)$. Kriesell conjectured that for every $2k$-edge-connected subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ in a finite connected graph $G$, there exist $k$ pairwise edge-disjoint $S$-Steiner trees. This conjecture is false for infinite graphs. We present a version of Kriesell's conjecture with topological $S$-Steiner trees for countable finitely edge-separable graphs and a version with $F$-limits of trees for rayless graphs. We show that if Kriesell's conjecture holds for finite graphs, then it holds for every connected, rayless and finitely edge-separable graph. We also show that every $2k$-edge-connected rayless and finitely edge-separable graph contains $k$ pairwise edge-disjoint spanning trees.

Campana Rational Connectedness and Weak Approximation of Del Pezzo Orbifolds

We prove that a del Pezzo orbifold of degree less than 7, and del Pezzo orbifolds of higher degree with irreducible boundary are strongly Campana uniruled, and deduce that it is Campana rationally connected. This provides important non-toric examples in dimension two of a conjecture by Campana, in the form required by the weak approximation theorem, and yields weak approximation for Campana sections of Campana fibrations at all places whose general fibre is such an orbifold. In three appendices we classify the del Pezzo orbifolds of degree 6, 7 and 8 with irreducible boundary.

Mean Square Error Analysis of Stochastic Runge-Kutta Integrators

We analyze the mean square error of stochastic Runge-Kutta integrators for overdamped Langevin dynamics whose potential is strongly convex outside a bounded region. A decomposition splits the local error into a mean-zero term and a smaller remainder, and the discrete Poisson equation turns their moments into a bound on the error of a time average. We carry this out for two stochastic Runge-Kutta integrators proposed by Yang & Wang (2026), both of strong order $\frac32$ and weak order $2$, which evaluate the gradient of the potential and no higher derivative. We show that their laws approach the law of the exact solution at second order in Wasserstein-1 distance, up to a logarithm, uniformly in the number of steps. For a test function with bounded derivatives up to third order, we prove that the mean square error over $N$ steps with step size $h$ is $\mathcal O ( \frac{1}{Nh} + h^4 )$, which is the optimal order in the discretization. Experiments measure the strong and weak orders and the sampling bias on a nonconvex potential in $\mathbb R^2$, and compare the integrators on a diffusion model of CIFAR-10.

Risk-Averse Decision Making with Multi-Level Reliability Guarantees

Many applications in engineering, including wireless broadcasting, require designs that provide performance certificates at different target outage levels. This paper studies the problem of maximizing the weighted average of such certificates in the presence of uncertainty about the true system state. The problem is shown to be equivalent to an optimization over nested prediction sets, connecting to the literature on conformal prediction and extending prior art on single-level risk-averse decision making. Furthermore, we derive a dual formulation that decouples optimization across input values. Numerical experiments on a diversity-based wireless transmission system illustrate the cost of enforcing multi-level certificates with a single shared policy and trace the Pareto trade-off between multiple reliability levels.

Approximate Inversion of Discrete Fourier Integral Operators via Hierarchically Semiseparable Matrices

This paper introduces a novel method for approximating the inverse of discrete Fourier integral operators (FIOs). Given an $N \times N$ matrix representation $K$ of an FIO, the proposed algorithm consists of two stages. In the offline stage, we first construct a butterfly factorization (BF) $\tilde{K}$ of $K$, which enables fast forward matrix-vector multiplication. We then construct a hierarchically semiseparable (HSS) approximation $\tilde{G} \approx G$, where $G = K^{*} K$, using fast applications of $\tilde{K}$ and $\tilde{K}^{*}$ to random matrices. Finally, we apply the ULV factorization to the HSS matrix $\tilde{G}$ to obtain an approximation $\tilde{F} \approx G^{-1}$. Combining these approximations yields an approximate inverse $K^{-1} \approx \tilde{F} \tilde{K}^{*}$. The offline stage has complexity $O(N \log^{2} N)$ for 1D problems and $O(N^{1.5} \log N)$ for 2D problems. In the online stage, the proposed method approximates $K^{-1} u$ for a given input vector $u$ with complexity $O(N \log N)$ for both 1D and 2D problems. The proposed method can be used either as a direct solver or as a preconditioner for iterative methods. Numerical results for 1D and 2D FIOs demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A sharp curvature lower bound for the first exterior p-harmonic Steklov eigenvalue

In this paper, we study the first variational Steklov eigenvalue of the $ p$-Laplace equation on exterior domain $ \Omega^{\text{ext}}$ for $ 1< p <n$. If $ \Omega$ is convex and $ \partial \Omega\in C^{1,1}$, we prove a sharp lower bound in terms of $p$-logarithmic mean of the principal curvatures of $ \partial \Omega$. For the linear case $ p=2$, our estimate reduces to the logarithmic mean bound of Bundrock et al. (arXiv:2511.09490). We also derive an upper bound in terms of a boundary isocapacitary constant. The analysis relies on the established finite energy theory on exterior domains, together with a decay estimate for $p$-harmonic extensions.

Quadratic Gröbner bases for cut ideals of cycles and ring graphs

Let $C_n$ be the cycle of length $n\ge3$ and let $I_{C_n}$ be its cut ideal. We show that $I_{C_n}$ has a quadratic Gröbner basis with respect to an explicit weight order. Since the defining configuration consists of $(0,1)$-vectors, the initial monomials of such a basis are automatically squarefree. As the cut polytope of a cycle is the parity polytope, the result gives a regular unimodular flag triangulation of this classical polytope. Together with the known tree case and the clique-sum theorem for cut ideals, the cycle result also yields a quadratic Gröbner basis for the cut ideal of every connected ring graph with at least one edge, thereby supplying the missing cycle input and establishing the result for connected ring graphs.

Space-time finite element interpolation of nonsmooth functions satisfying boundary conditions

We construct Scott-Zhang-type space-time quasi-interpolation operators on tensor- product meshes for parabolic settings. Specifically, these are linear and uniformly bounded projections from the classical parabolic energy space onto a space-time tensor-product finite element space that preserve discrete Dirichlet boundary conditions on the lateral space-time boundary. We apply our operator in the context of space-time first-order system least-squares finite elements for parabolic equations to establish a quasi-optimal method for inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Existence and Asymptotic Behavior of Normalized Ground States for a Weighted Elliptic System with Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg Critical Exponent

In this paper, we study the coupled singular weighted elliptic system $$\left\{ \begin{aligned} -\operatorname{div}(|x|^{-2a}\nabla u)+\lambda_1 \frac{u}{|x|^{2a}}&=\beta p\frac{|v|^q|u|^{p-2}u}{|x|^{b(p+q)}}+\frac{|u|^{2^{\sharp}-2}u}{|x|^{b2^{\sharp}}},\quad\text{in}~\mathbb{R}^N, -\operatorname{div}(|x|^{-2a}\nabla v)+\lambda_2\frac{v}{|x|^{2a}}&=\beta q\frac{|u|^p|v|^{q-2}v}{|x|^{b(p+q)}}+\frac{|v|^{2^\sharp-2}v}{|x|^{b{2^\sharp}}},\quad\text{in}~\mathbb{R}^N, \displaystyle\int_{\mathbb{R}^N}\frac{|u|^2}{|x|^{2a}} dx=\rho_1^2,\quad &\int_{\mathbb{R}^N}\frac{|v|^2}{|x|^{2a}}dx=\rho_2^2. \end{aligned} \right. $$ where $N\ge3$, $\beta\in\mathbb{R}$, $\rho_1,\rho_2>0$, $\max\{0,\tfrac{N-4}{2}\}\le a<\tfrac{N-2}{2}$, $a<b<a+1$, $2^{\sharp}:=\frac{2N}{N-2(1+a-b)}$, $p,q>1$ and $2<p+q<2^{\sharp}$. Here $2^\sharp$ is the critical exponent of the Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg inequality, and $\lambda_1,\lambda_2\in\mathbb{R}$ are unknown, since the two weighted masses are prescribed. We show that the ground state level is not attained for $\beta\le0$. For $\beta>0$ we obtain positive normalized ground states, with positive Lagrange multipliers, in the mass subcritical, mass critical, and mass supercritical regimes, for explicit ranges of $\beta$. In the mass supercritical regime, a threshold $\beta_0\ge0$ appears: a ground state exists for every $\beta>\beta_0$ and does not exist for $0<\beta<\beta_0$. We give conditions on $p,q$ under which $\beta_0=0$, and we prove that $\beta_0>0$ when $p,q\ge2$. Finally, we describe the ground states as $\beta\to0^+$ and as $\beta\to+\infty$: after a dilation, they converge to the ground states of the limit system without critical terms, or one component vanishes and the other concentrates on an extremal of the Caffarelli–Kohn–Nirenberg inequality.

Possibilistic Logic over a Logic of Formal Inconsistency

In this article, we have introduced a new possibilistic logic on a logic of formal inconsistency with the aim of developing a possibility theoretic framework to deal with uncertainty and inconsistency meaningfully without leading to a system collapse. We have discussed the syntax and semantics for this logic and have proved the soundness and completeness theorems. A set of new measures of consistency, contradictoriness, and triviality of a set of formulas have been defined. These have then been put to use in an example to show that this framework can provide better means of machine reasoning.

An Anisotropic Onsager Criterion for the Two-Dimensional Navier–Stokes Equations with Horizontal Viscosity

We consider distributional weak solutions $u\in L^\infty_tL^2_x$ of the two-dimensional Navier–Stokes equations with horizontal viscosity on $\mathbb T^2$ or $\mathbb R^2$, without assuming $\partial_1u\in L^2_tL^2_x$. We show that the Lions integrability condition $u\in L^4_tL^4_x$ together with Onsager-critical regularity in the nondissipative direction, $u\in L^3_tB^{1/3,v}_{3,\infty}$ with the Besov regularity imposed only in the vertical direction, implies $\partial_1u\in L^2_tL^2_x$, with a quantitative bound on the horizontal dissipation. Thus the dissipative regularity is a consequence of the equation and need not be part of the definition of the solution. If moreover $u\in L^3_tB^{1/3,v}_{3,c_0}$, then $u$ belongs to the isotropic critical Onsager space $L^3_tB^{1/3}_{3,c_0}$, satisfies the energy equality, and is continuous in $L^2$. Here $c_0$ indicates that the corresponding dyadic Besov sequence tends to zero at high frequencies. The proof combines absorption of the horizontal energy flux into the dissipation with a one-dimensional commutator estimate for the vertical energy flux.

A positively curved metric on the Gromoll-Meyer sphere

We construct an explicit deformation of the bi-invariant metric on Sp(2) whose induced metrics on the Gromoll-Meyer exotic 7-sphere have positive sectional curvature for all sufficiently small positive parameters. The deformation is determined by a fixed self-adjoint operator compatible with the quotient action. The proof combines a uniform curvature estimate with an algebraic analysis of the horizontal commuting planes. On the critical set where the lower-order positive terms vanish, we establish an explicit positive lower bound for the cubic coefficient of the curvature numerator. Uniform control of the fourth-order remainder and a compactness argument then show that every sectional curvature is positive

Commensurability Relations Between Deligne-Mostow-Thurston and Ghazouani-Pirio Monodromy Groups

We classify commensurability relations between Deligne–Mostow–Thurston monodromy groups and the sixteen arithmetic Ghazouani–Pirio monodromy groups arising from moduli of flat cone metrics on the sphere and on the torus. In both settings, the monodromy group preserves a skew-Hermitian form coming from twisted homology. We use a degeneration method to compute their determinant classes in the genus one case. The defining CM fields and determinant classes of the skew-Hermitian forms determine the commensurability relations. In particular, each of the sixteen arithmetic Ghazouani–Pirio monodromy groups is commensurable with an arithmetic Deligne–Mostow–Thurston monodromy group.

Stability and Area-Minimizing Property of Higher-Dimensional Helicoids

For each integer $k\geq 1$, we study the $(k+1)$-dimensional helicoid $H_k\subset\mathbb{R}^{2k+1}$ parametrized by \[ (u_1,\ldots,u_k,s) \longmapsto \bigl(u_1e^{is},\ldots,u_ke^{is},s\bigr) \in \mathbb{C}^k\times\mathbb{R}\cong \mathbb{R}^{2k+1}. \] These helicoids form a basic and distinguished family of complete, properly embedded minimal submanifolds diffeomorphic to $\mathbb{R}^{k+1}$, and provide natural higher-dimensional analogues of the classical helicoid in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We completely determine their stability: $H_k$ is stable for $k\geq 3$ and unstable for $k\leq 2$. The sharp transition at $k=3$ is particularly striking: while the classical helicoid $(k=1)$ and its first higher-dimensional analogue $(k=2)$ are unstable, the four-dimensional helicoid $H_3\subset\mathbb{R}^7$ is already stable. For $k\geq 3$, we also determine their area-minimizing property: $H_k$ is area-minimizing when $k$ is even and not area-minimizing when $k$ is odd. The area-minimizing result is proved by constructing an explicit calibration, while the non-area-minimizing result follows from an explicit competitor. In particular, for every even $k\geq 4$, the $(k+1)$-dimensional helicoid $H_k$ is an entire minimal graph in $\mathbb{R}^{2k+1}$ that is area-minimizing.

Global Linear Convergence of the Proximal Bundle Method under Unknown Piecewise Smoothness and Quadratic Growth

We study why the proximal bundle method (PBM) can perform better in practice when it retains more cutting planes. We consider convex objectives with quadratic growth and an unknown piecewise-smooth structure. Our key observation is that retaining sufficiently many cutting planes allows PBM to exploit the objective's piecewise-smooth structure and behave as if it were optimizing a smooth function. We provide a theoretical explanation for the observed linear convergence of PBM on piecewise-smooth objectives when it retains sufficiently many cutting planes.

Fundamentals of Energy-Efficient Hardware Configurations for Wireless Links with Sleep Modes

In this paper, we examine the energy efficiency (EE) of a base station (BS) with multiple antennas. We use a state-of-the-art power consumption (PC) model that captures the passive and active parts of the transceiver circuitry, including the effects of radiated power, signal processing, and passive consumption. The paper treats the transmit power, bandwidth, and number of antennas as the optimization variables. We provide novel closed-form solutions for the optimal ratios of power per unit bandwidth and power per transmit antenna, and discover a new relationship in which the radiated power equals the total transceiver power at the EE-optimal operating point. A central finding is that the EE-optimal signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) collapses to a universal numerical constant of approximately 5.93 dB, independent of channel and hardware parameters. We present an algorithm that jointly optimizes the three design variables to achieve maximum EE under practical constraints, and provide analytical insight into whether maximum power or maximum bandwidth is optimal and how many antennas a BS should utilize. We further extend the optimization framework to incorporate quality-of-service (QoS) requirements and three advanced sleep modes of varying depth: absolute sleep, deep sleep, and idle mode. We characterize the optimal hardware configuration for each mode and determine when the rush-to-sleep strategy, which transmits briefly at the EE-optimal active configuration and sleeps the rest of the time, is optimal. Incorporating wake-up transition delays, we reveal how latency constraints and sleep-mode-specific transition times jointly dictate the optimal sleep mode for data packets with absolute deadlines. Together, these results indicate that energy-efficient operation requires treating transmission and sleep as a single coupled optimization.

A proof of the Hodge universality conjecture at nonzero dispersion

We prove that a scalar tau-symmetric Hamiltonian deformation of the Riemann hierarchy in generalized standard form is uniquely determined by the nonzero coefficient of $u_x^2$ and the coefficients of $u_{xx}^g$, $g\ge2$, in its first Hamiltonian density. This determines the original hierarchy up to normal Miura transformations. Combined with the construction of Hodge-class double ramification hierarchies by Buryak–Rossi, this establishes Hodge universality at nonzero dispersion.

Parabolic-hyperbolic splitting in support propagation for stochastic porous media equations

We develop a randomly-localized energy method to derive qualitative results on the support propagation of stochastic porous media equations with linear conservative noise. Unlike in previous works, where energies are localized by weighting them with a spatial bump function, we weight them with profiles which are solutions to stochastic transport equations. This modulates out the support propagation due to the conservative noise term, and energy arguments—which otherwise fail in this setting—are again applicable. As a result, finite speed of propagation along with sufficient and necessary conditions on the existence of waiting time phenomena (modulo stochastic transport) are proven. These methods and results demonstrate, on short time scales, that the support propagation may be disintegrated into two independent parts, one due to the evolution of the porous media equation and one due to stochastic transport.

Sharp Volume-Based Bounds for BMO Functions on Compact Domains and Applications

We establish sharp localized $L^r$ bounds for compactly supported functions of bounded mean oscillation (BMO). Classical estimates obtained via the John-Nirenberg inequality bound the $L^r$ norm of such a function in terms of the diameter of its support. We show that the diameter dependence can be replaced by the Lebesgue measure of the support, the relevant quantity for thin, highly eccentric domains. The proof relies on non-increasing rearrangements and the Bennett-DeVore-Sharpley theorem, and requires no vanishing-oscillation hypothesis. We present physical and operator-theoretic applications: geometric collapse in tubular neighborhoods, a localized Cwikel-Lieb-Rozenblum bound for Schrödinger operators, and decoupling bounds for the localized action of Calderón-Zygmund singular integrals.
