Spaces of triangularizable matrices (III): Perfect non-quadratically closed fields with characteristic 2

Given a field $\mathbb{F}$ and an integer $n \geq 2$, denote by $t_n(\mathbb{F})$ the greatest possible dimension for a vector space of $n$-by-$n$ matrices over $\mathbb{F}$ in which every element is triangularizable. It was recently proved that $t_n(\mathbb{F})=\frac{n(n+1)}{2}$ if and only if $\mathbb{F}$ is not quadratically closed, with the possible exception of finite fields with characteristic $2$ and less than $n-1$ elements. In this article, we prove that the equality $t_n(\mathbb{F})=\frac{n(n+1)}{2}$ holds for all perfect non-quadratically closed fields with characteristic $2$ – with the possible exception of fields with cardinality $2$ – and for these fields we obtain a key result for a future analysis of the spaces that have the critical dimension $t_n(\mathbb{F})$.

An algebraic proof of Colombo's difference-power determinant conjecture

Let $n\ge2$ be even, let $\lambda=(\lambda_1,\ldots,\lambda_n)\in\mathbb{R}^n$ have pairwise distinct coordinates, and define the difference-power matrix \[ A_d(\lambda) := \bigl[(\lambda_r-\lambda_s)^d\bigr]_{r,s=1}^n, \qquad d\in\mathbb{N}. \] In 1928, Colombo proved that $\det A_{n-1}(\lambda)\ne0$—and hence $\det A_{n-1}(\lambda)>0$—and that $\operatorname{rank} A_d(\lambda)=d+1$ for $0\le d<n-1$. He conjectured that \[ \det A_d(\lambda)\ne0 \qquad\text{for every } d\ge n-1. \] For even $d$, the conjectured nonsingularity follows from previously published results on distance-power matrices. The remaining open cases were therefore the supercritical odd exponents $d\ge n+1$. We prove nonsingularity for all these odd exponents, thereby completing Colombo's conjecture. Consequently, \[ \operatorname{rank} A_d(\lambda)=\min\{n,d+1\} \qquad(d\in\mathbb{N}). \] Our proof converts a hypothetical kernel vector into a real binary form having more projective real linear factors, counted with multiplicity, than its real Waring length permits.

On Locally Finite Derivations in Ore Extensions

Let $\Bbbk$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We classify the locally finite derivations of arbitrary Ore extensions of $\Bbbk[x]$, thus extending van den Essen's \cite{V92} classification for the polynomial algebra $\Bbbk[x,y]$ to this noncommutative setting. More precisely, we consider the three families arising in the classification of Ore extensions of $\Bbbk[x]$: the quantum plane, the first quantum Weyl algebra, and the differential Ore extensions \[ A_h=\Bbbk[x][t;h(x)\partial_x]. \] For both the quantum plane and the first quantum Weyl algebra, we determine the locally finite derivations and explain how the resulting classifications are related to the work of Suárez-Alvarez and Vivas \cite{SuarezVivas} on generalized Weyl algebras. For the algebras $A_h$, with $h$ nonconstant, we obtain a complete classification in both the square-free and non-square-free cases. As a consequence, we show that $\LFD(A_h)$ is a solvable and weakly locally finite Lie subalgebra of $\Der(A_h)$, although it is not locally finite as a set of derivations.

Orthogonality graphs of real Cayley-Dickson algebras. Part I: Doubly alternative zero divisors and their hexagons

We study zero divisors whose components alternate strongly pairwise and construct oriented hexagons in the zero divisor graph of an arbitrary real Cayley-Dickson algebra. In case of the algebras of the main sequence, the zero divisor graph coincides with the orthogonality graph, and any hexagon can be extended to a double hexagon. We determine the multiplication table of the vertices of a double hexagon. Then we find a sufficient condition for three elements to generate an alternative subalgebra of an arbitrary Cayley-Dickson algebra. Finally, we consider those zero divisors whose components are both standard basis elements up to sign. We classify them and determine necessary and sufficient conditions under which two such elements are orthogonal.

Orthogonality graphs of real Cayley-Dickson algebras. Part II: The subgraph on pairs of basis elements

We consider zero divisors of an arbitrary real Cayley-Dickson algebra such that their components are both standard basis elements. We construct inductively the orthogonality graph on these elements. Then we show that, if we restrict our attention to at least $16$-dimensional algebras, two algebras are isomorphic if and only if their graphs are isomorphic. We also provide an algorithm to retrieve the Cayley-Dickson parameters of an algebra from its graph.

Commuting graphs of Okubo algebras

Commuting graphs of Okubo algebras are considered, and the problem of their connectivity is studied. The commuting graph of a pseudo-octonion algebra $P_8(\mathbb{F})$ over a field $\mathbb{F}$, $\mathrm{char} \, \mathbb{F} \neq 3$, that contains a primitive cubic root of unity is shown to be isomorphic to the commuting graph of the matrix algebra $M_3(\mathbb{F})$. As a consequence, if the field $\mathbb{F}$ is algebraically closed, then the diameter of the commuting graph for the unique Okubo algebra over $\mathbb{F}$ equals $4$. It is shown that the commuting graph of the real division Okubo algebra is connected, and its diameter also equals $4$. The proof of this result relies on the fact that, given any two idempotents in an arbitrary Okubo algebra, the intersection of their centralizers is always nonzero.

Self-Orthogonal $\tau$-Tilting Modules and Tilting Modules II: Annihilator Separation

Let $A$ be an Artin algebra and let $T$ be a self-orthogonal $\tau$-tilting right $A$-module. Set $I=\Ann_A(T)$. We prove that \[ \Hom_A(I,T)=0=\Ext_A^n(I,T)\qquad(n\geq 1). \] It follows that the torsion class generated by $I$ is Hom-orthogonal to $\Sub T$. This separation yields faithfulness criteria expressed through ideal tops, socles, and projective supports. We also prove a finitistic-dimension obstruction: if $B=\End_A(T)^{\rm op}$ has finite little finitistic dimension, then $\Fac T\cap{}^{\perp_{\geq0}}T=\{0\}$. As an application, the self-orthogonal $\tau$-tilting conjecture holds for radical square zero Artin algebras. Finally, the support criteria apply to semisimple-source triangular matrix algebras with arbitrary local terminal blocks.

Differential perm bialgebras, differential perm Yang-Baxter equation, and their applications in related bialgebra structures

We introduce the differential perm bialgebras by generalizing the study of perm bialgebras to the context of differential perm algebras. They are characterized by the Manin triple of differential perm algebras as well as the matched pairs of differential perm algebras. The quasi-triangular (resp. triangular, factorizable) differential perm bialgebra are introduced. In particular, symmetric solutions of an analogue of perm Yang-Baxter equation in differential perm algebras provide triangular differential perm bialgebras, whereas in turn the notions of $\mathcal{O}$-operators of differential perm algebras. As an application, the relationship between differential perm bialgebras and related bialgebra structures is discussed in detail. We show that there is a natural differential infinitesimal bialgebra structure on the tensor product of a differential perm bialgebra and a quadratic Zinbiel algebra, and this differential infinitesimal bialgebra structure is quasi-triangular (resp. triangular, factorizable) if the original differential perm bialgebra is quasi-triangular (resp. triangular, factorizable). Starting from a differential perm bialgebras with certain conditions, we can construct Novikov bialgebras, and these Novikov bialgebras can also be implemented by using the tensor product of diNovikov bialgebras and quadratic Zinbiel algebras.

Integral Orders for the Okubo Algebra and Idempotent Geometries of the $E_8$ Lattice

We study the Coxeter-Dickson $E_8$ order as a common integral support for the octonionic, para-octonionic and compact real Okubo products. The three algebra structures have the same additive lattice, the same positive composition norm and hence the same $240$ norm-one vectors, namely the roots of $E_8$ and the vertices of the Gosset polytope $4_{21}$. Their multiplicative structures are nevertheless different and this difference is already visible in the idempotents: among the same $240$ roots one finds respectively $1$, $57$ and $12$ nonzero integral idempotents. We show that these three counts organize the common root system in three increasingly polarized ways. The octonionic product leaves the full $E_8$ geometry unseparated; the $57$ para-octonionic idempotents reproduce the $E_7$ contact decomposition $1+56+126+56+1$; the $12$ Okubo idempotents split into four mutually orthogonal oriented $A_2$ triangles and hence determine canonically an $A_2^4$ subsystem. Choosing one triangle as the external $A_2$ then yields the $A_2+E_6$ Magic Star, while the remaining nine idempotents determine the trinification subsystem $A_2^3\subset E_6$. This provides an arithmetic interpretation of the $E_8\supset E_7$ and $E_8\supset E_6+A_2$ decompositions directly from integral idempotents.

Acyclic and totally acyclic objects in the $Q$-shaped derived category

This paper concerns homological algebra based on $Q$-shaped diagrams, where $Q$ belongs to a certain class of small categories. We will show that the Gorenstein property of noetherian commutative rings is characterised by the condition that acyclicity coincides with total acyclicity for $Q$-shaped diagrams of suitable classes of modules. Many special cases occur as corollaries, for instance $N$-complexes. This generalises a classic result by Iyengar and Krause to the programme of $Q$-shaped derived categories, which builds on an insight of Iyama and Minamoto. We prove our result using an adjoint triple of functors relating $Q$-shaped diagrams to chain complexes. One of the functors was introduced by Jasso, and the whole triple generalises the compression, cocompression, and expansion functors for differential modules introduced by Avramov, Buchweitz, and Iyengar and by Nkansah. We consider the adjoint triple to be the main contribution of this paper.

Free Novikov-Zinbiel algebra

Let $A$ be a commutative-associative algebra with an invertible derivation $D$, and put $R=D^{-1}$. We study the operations \begin{equation*} x\succ y=R(x)y,\qquad x\prec y=xD(y), \end{equation*} which define a Novikov-Zinbiel algebra. Using a simple graded model, we represent multilinear $\prec,\succ$-monomials by rational functions and construct an explicit basis for the resulting space. This yields a description of the multilinear components of the free Novikov-Zinbiel algebra. As a consequence, we prove that every multilinear identity satisfied by this construction follows from the defining identities of Novikov-Zinbiel algebras.

Disjoint and nearly disjoint sums of matrix multiplication tensors and their centroids

This paper addresses centroids, which are fundamental invariants of tensors. Our main results are as follows: (i) The construction of explicit tensors with very large centroids, whereas previously it had been conjectured that none such exist. (ii) An upper bound on the dimension of the centroid that is essentially attained by our examples. (iii) The development of a geometric technique to write down border rank decomposition of tensors using centroids and "extended centroids". (iv) The technique is applied to tensors of this paper to prove they are of minimal border rank. The technique is versatile and enables us to geometrically derive and improve upon previous ad hoc decompositions. (v) The construction of symmetric tensors with large centroids and proof that they are wild in the sense of Buczyńska-Buczyński. Our results also pave the way for new upper bounds on the exponent of matrix multiplication. The geometric technique also constructs new "better" tensors for Strassen's laser method from old, and we apply this to the tensors of Strassen and Schönhage to get better tensors in the sense that they give better upper bounds on the exponent than the original tensors.

Very good gradings on structural matrix rings

Let $R$ be a nonzero associative unital ring, let $G$ be a group, and let $\rho$ be a preorder on $\{1,\ldots,n\}$. A $G$-grading on $\rho$ induces a very good $G$-grading on the structural matrix ring $M_n(\rho,R)$. We show that, for each of the properties trivial, symmetric, epsilon-strong and strong, the grading on $\rho$ has the property if and only if the induced ring grading does. The epsilon-crossed product and crossed product properties pass from $\rho$ to the ring, but the converses fail in general. We also give a concrete criterion for epsilon-strongness and show that a very good $G$-grading on $M_n(\rho,R)$ that is strong satisfies $|G|\leq n$. When $\rho$ is an equivalence relation and the neutral component is diagonal, very good gradings correspond bijectively to free partial actions of $G$ on $\{1,\ldots,n\}$ with orbit relation $\rho$. These gradings are epsilon-crossed products, and over a field the correspondence gives a classification up to graded algebra isomorphism.

Finite semisimplicial sets, differential graded algebras, and cellular sheaves

We develop a differential graded model for finite non-singular semisimplicial sets and their cellular sheaves. To a finite non-singular semisimplicial set \(S\), we associate an exterior DGA \(\Omega^\bullet_S\), extending the classical anti-equivalence between finite simple directed graphs and first-order differential calculi to higher degrees. We characterize the essential image of this construction, obtaining an equivalence of categories that recovers the graph-FODC correspondence in dimension one. For a fixed \(S\), we then characterize a category of differential graded \(\Omega^\bullet_S\)-modules equivalent to the category of cellular sheaves on $S$, thereby giving a differential refinement of the usual incidence-algebra description. Finally, we study connections and curvature in this framework. Connections are described by edgewise linear maps and their curvature on a 2-dimensional simplex is the difference between direct and composite edge transport. When the edge transports are invertible, vanishing of this curvature on every \(2\)-simplex can equivalently be seen as a gluing criterion to extend the given edge transports to a connection sheaf on \(P_S\).

Relation graphs of the sedenion algebra

Let $\mathbb{S}$ denote the algebra of the sedenions, and $\Gamma_O(\mathbb{S})$ denote its orthogonality graph. We observe that any pair of zero divisors in $\mathbb{S}$ produces a double hexagon in $\Gamma_O(\mathbb{S})$. The set of vertices of a double hexagon can be extended to a basis of $\mathbb{S}$ which has a convenient multiplication table. We describe explicitly the set of vertices of an arbitrary connected component of $\Gamma_O(\mathbb{S})$ and find its diameter. We then establish the bijection between the connected components of $\Gamma_O(\mathbb{S})$ and lines in the imaginary part of the octonions. Finally, we consider the commutativity graph of the sedenions and discover that all elements whose imaginary part is a zero divisor belong to the same connected component, and its diameter lies between $3$ and $4$.

On doubly alternative zero divisors in Cayley-Dickson algebras

Zero divisors of Cayley-Dickson algebras over an arbitrary field $\mathbb{F}$, $\mathrm{char} \, \mathbb{F} \neq 2$, are studied. It is shown that zero divisors, whose components alternate strongly pairwise and have nonzero norm, form hexagonal structures in the zero divisor graph of a Cayley-Dickson algebra. The properties of doubly alternative zero divisors, at least one of whose components has nonzero norm, are established, and an explicit form of their annihilators, orthogonalizers, and centralizers is obtained. The properties of zero divisors in Cayley-Dickson algebras with anisotropic norm are described, and it is shown that in this case directed hexagons in the zero divisor graph can be extended to undirected double hexagons in the orthogonality graph. A criterion of $C$-equivalence for elements of Cayley-Dickson algebras with anisotropic norm is obtained. Possible values of dimension for annihilators of elements of Cayley-Dickson algebras are considered.

Functional identities of degree 2 at two-sided zero products on incidence algebras

Let $R$ be a commutative ring with unity such that $\frac{1}{2}\in R$. Let $X$ be a connected finite poset with $|X|>2$ and $I(X,R)$ be the incidence algebra of $X$ over $R$. In this paper, we characterize the forms of linear maps $F_1,F_2,F_3,F_4:I(X,R)\to I(X,R)$ satisfying \[ F_1(f)g+fF_2(g)+F_3(g)f+gF_4(f)=0, \] whenever $fg=gf=0$. We prove that the $F_i$'s are of the so-called standard form if and only if any two edges in the comparability graph of $X$ are contained in one cycle. The ingredients of the proof contain a characterization of $2$-connectedness in comparability graph and the two-sided zero product determined property of incidence algebras.

The weak bialgebra structures on $\mathbb{k}^{\oplus n}$

Weak bialgebras are natural generalizations of bialgebras that play a fundamental role in quantum groups, tensor categories, and representation theory. In this paper, we systematically classify all (weak) bialgebra structures on the finite-dimensional semisimple algebra \(\Bbbk^{\oplus n}\), with a distinguished basis of primitive orthogonal idempotents. For the bialgebra case, we prove that such structures are in bijection with finite monoids, and that bialgebra isomorphisms correspond exactly to monoid isomorphisms. Extending the result to weak bialgebras, we show that every weak bialgebra structure uniquely determines a finite small category.

Quantales as formal concept lattices

Some constructions of antisymmetric infinitesimal bialgebras and their applications to Lie bialgebras

In this paper, we mainly provide some methods for constructing antisymmetric infinitesimal (ASI) bialgebras and Lie bialgebras using Zinbiel bialgebras and diassociative bialgebras. We first show that there is an ASI bialgebra structure on the tensor product of a diassociative bialgebra and a quadratic Zinbiel algebra, while there is an infinite-dimensional ASI bialgebra structure on the tensor product of a Zinbiel bialgebra and a quadratic $\bz$-graded diassociative algebra. For a special quadratic $\bz$-graded Leibniz algebra, the property that its tensor product with a Zinbiel bialgebra forms an ASI bialgebra characterizes the Zinbiel bialgebra. By examining the relationship between solutions of the (classical) Yang-Baxter equation in a Zinbiel algebra and the induced associative algebra, we prove that the induced ASI bialgebra is quasi-triangular (resp. triangular, factorizable) whenever the original Zinbiel bialgebra is quasi-triangular (resp. triangular, factorizable). These conclusions enable us to provide a method for constructing Lie bialgebras from Zinbiel bialgebras and two approaches for constructing Lie bialgebras from diassociative bialgebras. We also provide specific descriptions of the connections between the solutions of the Yang-Baxter equations and the connections between the $O$-operators corresponding to these constructions.

Classification of Novikov-Poisson Algebras and Their Applications

In this paper, we give a complete classification, up to isomorphism, of 3-dimensional complex Novikov–Poisson algebras. As an application of the classification, we further prove that every 3-dimensional complex transposed Poisson algebra can be obtained from a Novikov–Poisson algebra except the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb C)$. Consequently, Sartayev's conjecture holds in dimension 3, that is, every 3-dimensional complex transposed Poisson algebra is special when regarded as a GD algebra.

Some results on null ideals of finite rings

For a finite associative unital ring $R$, the null ideal of $R$ is the collection of polynomials with coefficients from $R$ that send each element of $R$ to zero under evaluation. It was conjectured that the null ideal of $R$ is always a two-sided ideal of its overlying polynomial ring. The conjecture was proved to be false with the construction of a subring of $4 \times 4$ upper triangular matrices over $\mathbb{F}_2$ for which the null ideal is not two-sided. The Jacobson radical of this counterexample ring has nilpotency 4. We prove that if the Jacobson radical of $R$ has nilpotency at most 3, then the null ideal of $R$ is two-sided. By extending the known counterexample ring, for each $n \geq 5$ we present a ring for which the null ideal is not two-sided, and the Jacobson radical has nilpotency $n$.

Cohomology and extensions of Novikov algebras of truncated polynomials

Let $\kk$ be a \emph{field of characteristic $p>0$, not assumed algebraically closed}, and let $V=\kk[x]/(x^p)$ be the Novikov algebra with product $a\circ b=ab'$. For $\lambda\in\kk$, let $M(\lambda)$ be Xu's module. We compute the second cohomology $\Ht(V,M(\lambda))$ for all $\lambda$ and $p$, and describe the associated abelian extensions. The computation utilizes a $\Zp$-graded presentation $V\cong\kk[t]/(t^p-1)$ to bypass truncation issues and simplify cocycle identities. We determine the exact dimensions of $\Ht(V,M(\lambda))$, showing it is $0$ for $\lambda\notin\Fp$, $3$ for $\lambda\in\Fp$ with odd $p$, and $4$ for $\lambda\in\Fp$ with $p=2$. Explicit cocycle representatives are provided for all cases. As corollaries, we show that every abelian extension of $V$ by $M(\lambda)$ splits when $\lambda\notin\Fp$. We also treat the characteristic-$0$ analogue $P=\kk[t]$: Xu's parameter $\lambda$ collapses to the single value $\lambda=0$, and $\Ht(P,M(\lambda))=0$ throughout, so $P$ is rigid (in fact formally rigid) while its positive-characteristic truncation never is — within this family, it is truncation rather than positive characteristic per se that destroys rigidity.

A quaternionic construction behind $841$-point kissing arrangement in ${\mathbb R}^{12}$

Recently, a new record kissing arrangement of $841$ points in $\mathbb R^{12}$ was obtained numerically by optimization (Takhanov-Assylbekov-Yun, 2026). The configuration was released as a coordinate file, without a mathematical description of its structure. The purpose of this paper is to provide such a description. The key observation is that the geometry becomes transparent once we regard $\mathbb R^{12}\cong \mathbb H^3$ as the Cartesian product of three copies of the quaternion algebra. We first introduce a new $840$-point kissing arrangement with a certain quaternionic structure. It consists of three mutually orthogonal regular $24$-cells, supported on the three quaternionic coordinate factors $\mathbb H\times\{0\}\times\{0\}$, $\{0\}\times\mathbb H\times\{0\}$, $\{0\}\times\{0\}\times\mathbb H$, together with two $384$-point families obtained by lifting affine sets of the form $$\{(u,v,w)\in (\mathbb F_2^2)^3\mid u+v+w=\eta\},$$ to quaternionic triples (whose components belong to the binary octahedral group $2O$) and then applying suitable component-wise rotations and weightings. A characteristic feature of this construction is a pronounced asymmetry among the three quaternionic factors. For the $816$ vectors obtained after removing the third $24$-cell, most of the squared norm is concentrated in the first two quaternionic coordinates, while the third coordinate carries systematically less mass. Thus, the third four-dimensional factor contains more available space than the first two. We then show that this $840$-point configuration provides a natural structural model for the numerical $841$-point record. Finally, we introduce a notion of the general quaternionic construction in dimensions divisible by $4$, and check that record kissing arrangements in ${\mathbb R}^{4k}$, $k\leq 5$, admit a quaternionic construction.

Hereditary QF-$3^{+}$ rings

With the aid of the torsion-theoretical approach, several properties/characterizations of hereditary QF-$3^{+}$ rings are found. These characterizations are formulated in terms of the category of projective modules, the category of injective projective modules, and also in terms of the maximal left/right ring of quotients by Utumi. Moreover, it is shown that, for a hereditary QF-$3^{+}$ ring, the `largest stable submodule' radical (on the category of left/right modules) is permutable with injective envelopes. Besides, it is shown that there is a bimorphism (in the category of associative rings with identity) from such a ring to a semisimple left/right Artinian ring.
