Balanced pairs of Cartan-Eilenberg complexes over virtually Gorenstein rings

Let R be a ring and let Ch(R) be the category of complexes of left R-modules. We consider the C-E (Cartan-Eilenberg) exact structure on Ch(R) and show that it is an efficient exact category. We prove that if R is a left virtually Gorenstein ring, the pair (C-E(GProj),C-E(GInj)) is a C-E-admissible balanced pair. Under suitable additional hypotheses, the converse holds. We also consider the C-E version of Tate cohomology and establish C-E analogues of the Avramov-Martsinkovsky exact sequences and balance results for both Ext and Tor.

Undecidability of the Diophantine problem for one-relator groups and one-relation monoids

We prove that the Diophantine problem, i.e. the problem of solving equations with coefficients, in one-relator groups and one-relation monoids is undecidable in general. Specifically, we show that for all $d \geq 2$, the Diophantine problem for the Baumslag-Gersten group $\mathcal{B}_d = \operatorname{BG}(1,d)$ and for a closely related one-relation monoid $\mathcal{M}_d$ are both undecidable. Both results are obtained by an encoding of a recent undecidability result due to Rybalov.

Theory of extension of commutative poisson algebra

In this paper, we develop the extension theory of commutative Poisson algebras. Specifically, we define the second cohomology of a commutative Poisson algebra $K$ with coefficients in an abelian Poisson algebra $H$. We then establish a natural bijective correspondence between this cohomology group and the set of equivalence classes of a special type of extensions.

Invertible linear preservers of semipositive matrices - a dimension free approach

An m-by-n real matrix A is said to be semipositive if there exists a vector x>0 such that Ax>0, where the inequalities are understood componentwise. Dorsey et al. conjectured that any invertible linear map that $L$ that leaves invariant the collection of all semipositive matrices is always in the standard form $A \mapsto XAY$ for some row positive matrix $X$ and inverse nonnegative matrix $Y$. This was settled in when $m \geq n$. Our aim in this paper is to settle the case when m<n of the above conjecture. In fact, our proof works for arbitrary positive integers m and n. The main ingredient is a classification of affine subspaces of the largest possible dimension contained in the set of semipositive matrices.

Chevalley-Eilenberg cohomology of linearly reductive Lie algebras in the Verlinde category

Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p\geq 5$, and let $\mathrm{Ver}_p^+$ be the even part of the Verlinde fusion category $\mathrm{Ver}_p$, the semisimplification of $\mathrm{Rep}_k(\mathbb Z/p)$. Let $\mathfrak g$ be a linearly reductive Lie algebra in $\mathrm{Ver}_p^+$, i.e., one whose finite-dimensional representations are semisimple. A basic class of examples is obtained by semisimplifying a simple Lie algebra over $k$ equipped with the action of $\mathbb Z/p$ by a principal unipotent element, when $p$ exceeds its Coxeter number. We prove that $\mathfrak g$ is invariantless, i.e., that the unit object is not a summand of $\mathfrak g$. For odd $m$ with $3\leq m\leq p-2$, set $\mathfrak{g}_m:=\operatorname{Hom}_{\mathrm{Ver}_p^+}(L_m,\mathfrak g)$ and $E_{\mathfrak g}:=\bigoplus_{3\leq m\leq p-2,\ m\ {\rm odd}}\mathfrak g_m^{(1)}[m]$, where $(1)$ denotes Frobenius twist. Our main result is an isomorphism of graded algebras $H^\bullet_{\mathrm{CE}}(\mathfrak g)\cong\bigwedge^\bullet E_{\mathfrak g}^*$. We also identify this algebra with the de Rham cohomology $H^\bullet_{\mathrm{dR}}(G)$ of the group scheme $G=\exp(\mathfrak g)$ and show that the induced graded Hopf algebra structure agrees with the standard one on the exterior algebra. Moreover, if $V$ is a simple $\mathfrak g$-module on which $\mathfrak g$ acts nontrivially, then $H^\bullet_{\mathrm{CE}}(\mathfrak g,V)=0$. Hence for every finite-dimensional $\mathfrak g$-module $V$ one has $H^\bullet_{\mathrm{CE}}(\mathfrak g,V)\cong\bigwedge^\bullet E_{\mathfrak g}^*\otimes V^{\mathfrak g}$. This recovers the theorem of Borel and Chevalley on the cohomology of complex semisimple Lie algebras and its analogue in sufficiently large positive characteristic. We also prove similar results for relative cohomology.

Idempotents, automorphism groups, and commutator widths of quandle algebras

The paper develops the theory of quandle algebras. We show that over integral domains of characteristic other than 2, quandle algebras of ordered commutative quandles have no nontrivial idempotents. We also compute the automorphism groups of quandle algebras of trivial quandles and dihedral quandles of odd orders over arbitrary commutative rings, with partial results for dihedral quandles of even orders. Finally, a computer search provides the first examples of quandle algebras of commutator width 2.
