We introduce a kernel–wreath construction for finite skew braces. Let $C$ be a finite skew brace, write $(C,+)=A$ and $(C,\circ)=R$, and let $\chi:R\twoheadrightarrow T$ be an epimorphism onto a non-trivial finite abelian group. We show that a natural index-$|T|$ kernel in the permutational wreath product $R\wr T$ acts regularly on $A^T$, and hence defines a new skew brace $\KT_T(C,\chi)$ with additive group $A^{|T|}$. The construction preserves every finite abelian quotient of the multiplicative group, as well as solvability, and contains the seed brace $C$ as a diagonal subbrace. It can therefore be iterated indefinitely. More precisely, if $Q$ is a non-trivial finite abelian quotient of $R$ and $p\in\pi(Q)$, then one obtains an infinite tower \[ C=C_0\hookrightarrow C_1\hookrightarrow C_2\hookrightarrow\cdots \] with $(C_m,+)\cong A^{p^m}$ for every $m\geq0$. Our main permanence result shows that if $C$ is simple and is not a trivial skew brace, then $\KT_T(C,\chi)$ is again simple. Consequently, a single simple seed whose multiplicative group has a non-trivial finite abelian quotient gives rise to infinite families of finite simple skew braces. In particular, starting from suitable solvable regular subgroups of the holomorph of a finite non-abelian simple group $S$, we obtain infinite families of simple skew braces with additive groups $S^{p^m}$ and solvable multiplicative groups. Further applications are given to the simple skew braces of order $12$ and to Byott's family.

Explicit equational bases for the power semirings of $S_7$
For every semigroup $S$, the set $\mathcal{P}(S)$ of all subsets of $S$ and the set $\mathcal{P}^{+}(S)$ of all nonempty subsets of $S$ form additively idempotent semirings under set-theoretic union and elementwise multiplication, called the full and nonempty power semirings of $S$, respectively. We investigate the finite basis problem for the full and nonempty power semirings $\mathcal{P}(S_7)$ and $\mathcal{P}^{+}(S_7)$ of the multiplicative reduct of $S_7$, where $S_7$ is the unique nonfinitely based three-element additively idempotent semiring. We provide explicit infinite equational bases for both and prove that they are nonfinitely based. For $\mathcal{P}^{+}(S_7)$, we establish a new sufficient condition for an additively idempotent semiring to be nonfinitely based and apply it to obtain the required result. Moreover, we show that the interval $[\mathsf{V}(\mathcal{P}^{+}(S_7)), \mathsf{V}(\mathcal{P}(S_7))]$ in the lattice of additively idempotent semiring varieties has the cardinality of the continuum.

The small Davenport constant of $H_{27}\times C_3^r$
Let $H_{27}=\mathrm{UT}_3(\mathbb{F}_3)$ be the nonabelian group of order $27$ and exponent $3$. We prove that $\mathsf{d}(H_{27}\times C_3^r)=2r+6$ for every integer $r\geq0$. The proof combines an affine coefficient identity in the group algebra of an elementary abelian group with a decomposition of the nonorthogonality graph of $\mathbb{F}_3^2$ into eight edge-disjoint zero-sum triangles. It is uniform in $r$, does not use the value of the small Davenport constant for a smaller nonabelian group, and requires no computational enumeration.

The free multiplicative Lie algebra $L(P)$ for a finitely generated parafree group $P$
Let $P$ be a group, $L(P)$ be the free multiplicative Lie algebra with normal subgroup $\Gamma_n(P)$ generated by Lie bracket “commutators” of weight $n$ and $\{ \gamma_n(P) \}$ be the lower central series of $P$. We prove that $\Gamma_n(P) \simeq \gamma_n(P)$ for arbitrary $n \geq 1$ and $P$ a finitely generated parafree group such that $H_2(P, \mathbb{Z}) = 0 = H_3(P, \mathbb{Z})$ (e.g. $P$ satisfies the Strong Parafree Conjecture), in particular Ellis's conjecture holds i.e. the above isomorphism holds for finitely generated free group $P$ but this easily implies it holds for any free group.

On the number of modular pairs in finite dimensional Lie algebras on finite fields
Given a finite dimensional Lie algebra $L$ on a finite field $\mathbb{F}_{p^n}$ of prime power order $p^n$ (with $n$ positive integer and $p$ prime), we consider the number of modular pairs $(A,B)$ in the lattice of all subalgebras $\mathcal{L}(L)$ and introduce the notion of “subalgebra commutativity degree” of $L$. This represents the probability to find that two randomly chosen subalgebras $A$ and $B$ of $L$ are permutable. We investigate the subalgebra commutativity degree of $L$ in connection with recent techniques of algebraic combinatorics and number theory, providing upper and lower bounds which may influence the structure of $L$. A specific study for the subalgebra commutativity degree of Heisenberg algebras is executed.

An order automorphism of a Dlab group not induced by conjugation
Let $G=D_{\langle2\rangle}([0,1])$ be equipped with either of its two Dlab orders. There exists an order automorphism $\alpha$ of $G$ such that, for every rank-one subgroup $H\leq\mathbb R_{>0}^{\times}$, every one of the six corresponding Dlab groups $A$ listed below, equipped with any of its linear orders, every order-preserving embedding $e:G\hookrightarrow A$, and every $u\in A$, there exists $f\in G$ such that $e(\alpha(f))\neq u^{-1}e(f)u$.

Finite groups with large power-avoiding subsets
A subset $X$ of a finite group $G$ is $k$-power-avoiding if for all $g\in G$ we have that $\{g,g^k\}\not\subseteq X$. The paper shows that if $G$ contains a $k$-power-avoiding subset $X$ with $|X|\geq |G|-c$, then the group $G^k$ generated by the $k$th powers of elements of $G$ has bounded order (in $k$ and $c$). We provide more detailed structural results when $c\leq 2$, and in particular we classify the groups which arise when $c\leq 2$ and $k$ is prime.

A computational framework for multidimensional loop-cocyclic Hadamard matrices
The cocyclic development of Hadamard matrices has recently been extended from groups to loops by means of a cohomology theory that incorporates associativity obstructions. Over the finite field $\mathbb F_2$, the resulting loop-cocycles can be computed as solutions of homogeneous linear systems, making the framework suitable for exact computation. In this paper, we investigate multidimensional Hadamard matrices arising from finite loops. We introduce the notion of $\delta$-compatible pairs of $2$-cochains over a loop $L$ as a natural extension of the usual $2$-cocycle identity, which allows the use of two distinct $2$-cochains. They form a vector space naturally isomorphic to the direct product of the space of $2$-cocycles and the space of $1$-cochains. This yields a generalization of the classical cocyclic construction of multidimensional Hadamard matrices from groups to arbitrary loops, while preserving the computational advantages of the cocyclic approach. The obtained decomposition shows that the determination of Hadamard equivalence classes can be reduced from the full space of $\delta$-compatible pairs to the smaller space of ordinary $2$-cocycles, eliminating a redundant factor of $2^n$ from the search space. Computational results for all groups of orders $4$ and $8$, together with a non-associative loop of order $8$, show that the proposed three-dimensional construction refines the classical cocyclic Hadamard classification. While all examples collapse into a single equivalence class in dimension two, they split into several distinct classes in dimension three. In particular, the non-associative loop produces a three-dimensional Hadamard class that does not arise from any of the groups considered, showing that the multidimensional construction detects structural information that is invisible at the cocyclic matrix level.

Involution and Commutator Length in PU(n,1)
We study decompositions of holomorphic isometries of complex hyperbolic space into holomorphic involutions. We prove that, for every n>=3, the involution length of PU(n,1) is 4. This improves the higher-dimensional upper bound 8 of Paupert–Will, as well as the projective upper bound 5 implied by Bünger's linear decomposition theorem, to the optimal value 4. Combined with the two-dimensional result of Paupert–Will, this shows that the involution length of PU(n,1) is 4 for every n>=2. The core of the proof is a three-involution decomposition theorem for square roots: every g in PU(n,1) has a square root of involution length at most 3, and this uniform bound is optimal. The key construction is carried out first on a two- or three-dimensional indefinite block and then completed in higher dimensions by a necessary and sufficient spectral pairing criterion on the positive-definite orthogonal complement. The four-factor lower bound is provided by complex reflections in a point. As a consequence, every element of PU(n,1) is a single commutator, and the two elements in the commutator representation can be simultaneously reversed by the same nontrivial holomorphic involution. This extends the two-dimensional single-commutator result of Paupert–Will to every n>=2 and thereby verifies Djoković's Conjecture A for the family PU(n,1), n>=2.

Entropy and Translation Length in the Ray Graph
Let $\Gamma$ be the mapping class group of the plane minus a Cantor set, acting on the ray graph $\mathcal{R}$, and for $\gamma \in \Gamma$ let $\tau(\gamma)$ denote the translation length of $\gamma$ on $\mathcal{R}$. We prove that $\tau(\gamma) \le h(f)/\log(2)$ for every $C^\infty$ diffeomorphism $f$ of $S^2$ representing $\gamma$, where $h$ denotes topological entropy. The proof falls into two parts: a combinatorial argument bounding distance between two rays in $\mathcal{R}$ by the logarithm of the geometric intersection number; and a geometric argument that promotes geometric control (coarse length of iterates of a fixed ray) to combinatorial control (geometric intersection number). We conjecture that the $C^\infty$ hypothesis on $f$ can be removed.

Affine Fixed Points on Flat Manifold Pairs
In this paper we consider affine selfmaps of compact flat manifold pairs. We derive an explicit formula for the relative Nielsen number in terms of the ambient holonomy and the holonomy carried by the stabilizer of the lifted submanifold. The formula extends the flat specialization of Wong's nilmanifold-pair formula to finite holonomy, agrees with the author's earlier model-solvmanifold-pair formula on the flat overlap, and extends beyond it. We also show that the stabilizer holonomy cannot in general be replaced by the intrinsic holonomy of the submanifold. Examples exhibit interesting Schirmer theory and include flat pairs outside the model-solvmanifold class.

Quandles from group actions and a Cayley-type embedding theorem
A quandle is an algebraic system that can be regarded as a generalization of the conjugation operation in groups. We study a quandle construction associated with group actions and determine its structural properties, including its inner automorphism group, connected components, and subquandles. As a principal application, we establish a Cayley-type embedding theorem for finite quandles. Applying the construction to the natural action of the symmetric group, we obtain, for each $n$, a single quandle into which every quandle of cardinality $n$ embeds.

Uncountably many local isomorphism types of compactly generated simple groups
A major open question in the theory of locally compact groups is the following. Let $\mathscr{S}$ be the class of non-discrete compactly generated totally disconnected locally compact groups that are topologically simple. Is the number of local isomorphism classes of groups in $\mathscr{S}$ uncountable? We have answered this question, showing that there are $2^{\aleph_0}$ local isomorphism classes in $\mathscr{S}$. Our result was obtained without the use of artificial intelligence; it arose from a problem session that ran over several days at the workshop "Branch groups: subgroups, rigidity, topologies" at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, organised by Dominik Francoeur, Alejandra Garrido and Tatiana Nagnibeda.

Concise tensors with maximal symmetries
Conner, Gesmundo, Landsberg and Ventura (2019) determined the largest stabilizer dimension of concise $n\times n \times n$ tensors that are binding, and they determined the corresponding maximizing tensors to be the null algebra tensors. They left as an open problem to extend this to all concise $n \times n \times n$ tensors (i.e. dropping binding). We solve this problem: We prove that the largest stabilizer dimension of concise $n\times n\times n$ tensors is $n^2 + 1$ and the maximizers are the null algebra tensors (as in the binding case) and the skew symmetric tensor $e_1 \wedge e_2 \wedge e_3$. As part of our approach we obtain upper bounds on the stabilizer dimension of matrix tuples under left-right action (generalized Kronecker quiver representations), which we think are of independent interest.

A classification of finite simply reducible groups of order at most 2000
We give a computer-assisted classification, up to isomorphism, of all nontrivial finite simply reducible groups of order at most 2000. There are 7889 such groups, all of even order. We provide representatives and a table of their numbers at each order. Order 1024, which is not available as a catalogue of group objects in the SmallGroups library of the computer algebra system GAP, requires a separate construction. Combining descendant generation with a classification of quadratic maps over $\mathbb F_2$, we obtain exactly 803 groups of this order, including 221 of nilpotency class two. We also derive exact counting formulas on several infinite families of orders and explicit bounds from structural subclasses.

Selflessness, MIF and opposition in groups acting on exotic buildings
We prove that groups acting freely and cocompactly on (possibly exotic) affine buildings of type $\tilde{A}_2$ and $\tilde C_2$ are mixed-identity free and have selfless reduced $C^*$-algebras. These results follow from a strong form of ping-pong dynamics that we call 'transversal contractivity'. Our main geometric result regards domesticity properties of elements in the associated polygons at infinity: we prove that, in our context, the opposite geometry of a hyperbolic element is topologically large.

Palindromic Length in Free Groups: Reflections, Noncrossing Matchings, and Catalan Forms
Let $F=F(X)$ be a free group of finite rank, with palindromic length taken with respect to the fixed basis $X$. We embed $F$ as the index-two subgroup of the universal Coxeter group $W=F\rtimes_\theta\langle t\mid t^2=1\rangle$, where $\theta(x)=x^{-1}$ for $x\in X$, and prove $\mathrm{pl}(g)=\min{\ell_T(g),\ell_T(gt)}$. Dyer's deletion theorem then identifies reflection length with the minimum number of unmatched positions in a noncrossing equal-label partial matching on a reduced Coxeter word. This gives an $O(n^3)$-time, $O(n^2)$-space algorithm for palindromic length, together with recovery of an optimal palindromic factorization. The matching model also gives a structural characterization. For every ordered full binary tree with $k$ leaves we define a literal word template whose leaves are palindromes and whose internal vertices carry arbitrary words. A reduced word $w$ represents an element of palindromic length at most $k$ if and only if $w$ is a literal instance of one of these templates. Hence the $C_{k-1}$ ordered binary-tree shapes give a complete finite family for each fixed $k$. For $k=4$ the five templates are exactly the five forms proposed by Frid, proving the completeness of that list. A companion Lean 4 development verifies the four-palindrome classification end to end for every finite rank, including the ordinary reduced-word formulation and the literal five-form conclusion.

Unipotence of a double commutator with transvections
Let $R$ be a nonzero commutative ring with identity, $n\geq3$, and $\sigma\in GL_n(R)$. We prove that there exist nonidentity transvections $\tau_1,\tau_2\in GL_n(R)$ such that $\big[[\sigma,\tau_1],\tau_2\big]=I_n$. Hence, Kourovka Notebook Problem 10.46 has a stronger affirmative answer over commutative rings with identity. The proof uses rank-one operators and the existence of a nonzero functional annihilating a standard basis vector and its image under $\sigma$.

The Fourth Continuous Bounded Cohomology of the Complex Symplectic Group
We prove that $H_{\mathrm{cb}}^4(\Sp(4,\CC);\RR)=0$. Together with Blatz's secondary stability and the rank-one theorem of Bucher–Savini, this gives degree-four vanishing for all complex symplectic and odd complex orthogonal groups. In normalized symplectic Gram coordinates, we establish a bounded-primitive estimate and compute the measurable cohomology of the projective action. An explicit rational cocycle has divergent periods on a family of finite orbit cycles of uniformly bounded $\ell^1$-mass. A two-cone averaging construction extends the period estimate to measurable cochains and excludes bounded representatives of every nonzero degree-four measurable action class.

Kazhdan constants for two-element generating sets of $\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb Z)$
For $n\geq3$, the group $\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb Z)$ has property $(T)$, so every finite generating set has a positive Kazhdan constant. However, it was recently shown that the infimum of these constants over all finite generating sets is $0$. This naturally raises the question of whether the infimum remains zero when the cardinality of the generating sets is bounded in advance. We prove that the infimum of the Kazhdan constants of $\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb Z)$ over all two-element generating sets is $0$ for every $n\geq3$.

Iwasawa theory of class field towers
Let $p$ be an odd prime and let $K_\infty/K$ be a $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension. For each finite layer $K_n$, let $G_n$ be the Galois group of its maximal unramified pro-$p$ extension. We study the augmentation and Zassenhaus filtrations of the groups $G_n$ as $n$ tends to infinity. Assume that the classical Iwasawa $\mu$-invariant is positive. If $d_n$ denotes the minimal number of generators of $G_n$, then there is an integer $\delta>0$ such that $d_n=\delta p^n+O(1)$, while the minimal number of relations is $O(p^n)$. For each fixed $m\geq2$, as $n\to\infty$, we show that the $m$-th augmentation quotient has the same leading asymptotic as that of a free pro-$p$ group on $d_n$ generators. We also obtain corresponding asymptotics for the Hilbert series, the exponential growth rate of the augmentation filtration, and the Zassenhaus quotients.

Matroids and isomorphism problems for Bestvina-Brady groups
We propose a factorization of the graph isomorphism problem for Bestvina-Brady groups (BBGs) through matroid theory. In particular, we show that finitely presented BBGs depend on their defining graphs only through their cycle matroids. On the other hand, we construct graphs of arbitrarily high connectivity such that they have non-isomorphic cycle matroids but their BBGs are isomorphic. To do so, we prove that if a graph admits a tree clique-spanner, then the Dicks-Leary presentation of its BBG can be explicitly simplified to a right-angled Artin group presentation. In particular, we show that BBGs defined by dually chordal graphs are right-angled Artin groups.

Fusion-stable endosplit $p$-permutation resolutions
Let $k$ be a field of characteristic $p>0$, $\mathcal{F}$ a saturated fusion system over a finite $p$-group $P$, and $V$ an indecomposable capped endopermutation $kP$-module. Let $D_k^\Omega(P)$ be the subgroup of the Dade group $D_k(P)$ generated by all the relative syzygies. It is known that $V$ has an endosplit $p$-permutation resolution if and only if the Dade class $[V]$ belongs to $D_k^\Omega(P)$. We show that the resolution can be chosen to be $\mathcal{F}$-stable if and only if $V$ is $\mathcal{F}$-stable. As an application, we prove the following folklore result: if two blocks of finite groups are Morita equivalent via a bimodule with an endopermutation $kP$-source $V$ such that $[V]\in D_k^\Omega(P)$, then these two blocks are splendidly Rickard equivalent.

Algebraic and measurable embeddings between square-free right-angled Artin groups
Let $\Gamma,\Delta$ be finite simplicial graphs, and assume that $\Gamma$ has no induced squares. We prove that the right-angled Artin group $A(\Delta)$ measurably embeds into $A(\Gamma)$ if and only if $A(\Delta)$ embeds as a subgroup in a graph product of free abelian groups over $\Gamma$. This in turn has a graph-theoretical characterisation which can be checked algorithmically. If additionally $A(\Gamma)$ and $A(\Delta)$ have cohomological dimension equal to two and $A(\Gamma)$ is not isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}\times F_n$, we get that $A(\Delta)$ measurably embeds into $A(\Gamma)$ if and only if it embeds as a subgroup in $A(\Gamma)$. Our proof relies on the following algebraic statement. Let $K_1,\dots,K_n$ be a family of pairwise disjoint cliques in the square-free graph $\Gamma$ (or more generally in its extension graph $\Gamma^{\mathrm{ext}}$), and let $g_1,\dots,g_n$ be elements of $A(\Gamma)$ with respective parabolic supports $A(K_1),\dots,A(K_n)$. Then the subgroup of $A(\Gamma)$ generated by $g_1,\dots,g_n$ is a right-angled Artin group, where the only relations impose that $g_i$ and $g_j$ commute if $K_i\cup K_j$ is contained in a clique of $\Gamma$ (or of $\Gamma^{\mathrm{ext}}$).

The variety generated by all semirings of order three is nonfinitely based
We prove that the variety generated by all semirings of order three is nonfinitely based, where addition is not required to be commutative and the signature has no constants. The same conclusion holds for the variety generated by all additively idempotent semirings of order three. We establish these conclusions by excluding a uniform bound on the number of variables in an identity basis. Our proof uses identities associated with anchored odd cycles. Three small commutative test semirings isolate a polynomial equivalence class consisting of exactly two polynomials. For a cycle of length $n$, every first nontrivial deduction between them requires an identity with at least $n+1$ variables, even under polynomial substitutions. A retraction followed by a band quotient transfers absorption identities to arbitrary addition and identifies the ai-subvariety of the full joint variety with the joint variety of the ai-generators. Validity of the cycle identities follows from a structural analysis of chain and flat addition. An elementary sixth-power lemma for semigroups of order at most three supplies the retraction.
