Critical $p$-Laplace equations with monotone coefficients: Liouville classification and a Schoen-type Harnack inequality

We investigate positive weak solutions of the critical $p$-Laplace equation $$ -\Delta_p u = u^{p^*-1} h(u), \qquad 1 < p < n, $$ where $h$ is a positive, bounded, continuous, and nonincreasing function. Our first main result is a complete classification of normalized, bounded, positive entire solutions for every equation in a compact family determined by $h$: Any such solution must coincide with an Aubin–Talenti profile. Moreover, the existence of an Aubin–Talenti profile as a solution implies that $h$ is constant on the entire interval of values attained by that profile. Subsequently, applying this classification result, we establish the following scale-invariant Schoen-type estimate $$ \left(\sup_{B_R} u\right)\left(\inf_{B_{2R}} u\right)^{p-1} \le C R^{p-n} $$ for nonnegative weak solutions defined in $B_{3R}$. As a direct corollary, we obtain a fully unrestricted Liouville theorem: Every positive entire solution must coincide with an Aubin–Talenti profile. For the purely critical equation, we also show that the corresponding Liouville classification is equivalent to a Schoen-type Harnack inequality. The arguments in this work give quasilinear versions of the Kelvin transform and the method of moving spheres, which was previously available only in the semilinear setting, and also yield alternative proofs of the classical results. The technique developed here can likely be extended to a wider class of Liouville-type problems for critical equations.

Torus and Positive Mass stability for metrics with Ricci curvature lower bound

Consider a sequence of metrics $g_i$ on the torus whose members have uniform lower bounds on their first stable systoles and Ricci curvatures, and have a uniform upper bound on their diameters. If the $L^1$ norm of the negative part of the scalar curvatures vanishes along this sequence, then we show there is a subsequence of the metrics which converges in the measured-Gromov-Hausdorff topology to a flat metric on the torus. Something analogous holds for sequences of asymptotically flat spin Riemannian manifolds with a uniform lower bound on Ricci curvature and nonnegative scalar curvature: if the ADM masses of the distinguished ends tend to zero along the sequence, then the manifolds converge to Euclidean space in the pointed measured Gromov-Hausdorff sense.

A global variational calculus on Fréchet manifolds and the Lagrangian structure of the Einstein evolution equations

We develop a variational calculus for curves on Fréchet manifolds and apply it to the Lagrangian formulation of the Einstein evolution equations on the manifold $\Mm$ of Riemannian metrics of a compact manifold. For mechanical Lagrangians associated with weak pseudo-Riemannian metrics, we establish the Euler–Lagrange equations, energy conservation, and an infinitesimal Noether theorem that does not require the symmetry vector field to generate a flow. Applied to the DeWitt Lagrangian, this framework identifies the momentum constraint with the vanishing of a Noether momentum map and gives a direct proof of its propagation. We also derive the pointwise transport identity \[ \partial_t\bigl(\Ham_\lambda\,\dv_g\bigr) = 2\alpha\,\delta_g(\delta_g^-k)\,\dv_g\,, \] which implies propagation of the Hamiltonian constraint. Finally, we prove a Maupertuis– Jacobi theorem for weak pseudo-Riemannian metrics on Fréchet manifolds and show that, away from the zero set of the total scalar-curvature potential, constrained Einstein evolutions are reparametrized unit-speed geodesics of the conformal DeWitt metric $-4\alpha S_\lambda G^-$.

Manton's Exotic Vortex Equation

In this paper, we study the equation which we call Manton's exotic vortex equation. The equation arose in Manton's study of a deformation of the classical vortex equation [Ma]. We first investigate the existence problem for Manton's exotic vortex equation and establish existence results. We then construct the moduli space of solutions. Finally, we establish a dimensional reduction for Manton's exotic vortex equation. More precisely, we establish a correspondence between solutions of Manton's exotic vortex equation and pseudo-Hermitian-Yang–Mills connections with pseudo-Hermitian metrics of signature (1,1).

Explicit Cartesian Coordinates for Three-Dimensional Clothoids

We combine the spherical-clothoid reconstruction theorem of Lucas and Ortega-Yagues with an explicit spinorial parametrization of the spherical clothoid and a Kampe de Feriet evaluation of Kummer-product integrals. This gives explicit Cartesian coordinates, in arclength, for every nonhelical three-dimensional clothoid. Kummer asymptotics then yield explicit asymptotic lines, including their gamma-digamma offsets and the angle between their axes.

Heat propagation on abelian covers of principal bundles

We study the long-time asymptotics of heat kernels on Abelian covers of compact manifolds and on Abelian covers of principal bundles. For Abelian covers, we establish three complementary asymptotic expansions: a distributional expansion describing correlations of the heat semigroup, a local pointwise expansion of the heat kernel on compact subsets, and a global expansion valid on the natural diffusive scale, revealing the Gaussian profile governing heat propagation. We then extend these results to horizontal heat kernels on principal bundles under natural holonomy and curvature assumptions. In this setting, we show that the leading asymptotics are entirely determined by the geometry of the underlying Abelian cover, while the nontrivial fiber modes decay exponentially fast due to a uniform spectral gap. The proof combines Floquet theory on Abelian covers with the Borel–Weil decomposition on principal bundles.

Smooth globally PLI functions are nonlinear least-squares, and so are their gradient-dominated cousins

Boumal, Criscitiello and Rebjock (BCR) proved that if $M$ is a contractible, connected and complete Riemannian manifold, then every smooth function $f\colon M\to R$ satisfying the global Polyak–Łojasiewicz inequality (PŁI) is necessarily of the form $f = f^* + \|\phi\|^2$ with $\phi$ a submersion. Informally, minimizing such a function amounts to solving a nonlinear least-squares problem in new coordinates. The global PŁI hypothesis fails, however, in many problems of interest, among them continuous-time LQR policy optimization in optimal control and a standard formulation of logistic regression. A hierarchy of weakened PŁ inequalities has been introduced in order to cover such problems, and more generally to study the effect of noise and adversarial perturbations on gradient flows. This note shows that, with minor modifications, the same reduction to a nonlinear least-squares problem holds under a substantially weaker hypothesis, “semiglobal” PŁI, which is satisfied in both of the examples just mentioned. That condition asks that $f$ satisfy an estimate $\|\nabla f(x)\| \ge \alpha\bigl(f(x)-f^*\bigr)$ for all $x$, with $\alpha$ merely positive definite and bounded below by a positive multiple of $\sqrt{s}$ for small $s>0$.

The $\mathcal{L}$-Calculus for Causal Variational Principles: An Exterior Differential Calculus on Non-Smooth Spaces

A differential calculus for causal variational principles is developed, which generalizes the exterior calculus of differential forms and some of the associated differential topological structures to non-smooth spaces. Our calculus includes the exterior derivative, de Rham cohomology, glueing constructions (restrictions and extensions of differential forms, Mayer-Vietoris sequence), a Künneth formula and Poincaré's lemma. Moreover, we prove versions of Stokes' theorem and the Gauß divergence theorem. The constructions and results are illustrated by several examples.

Sasaki with torsion manifolds and string backgrounds

Motivated by the analogy with the Bismut connection in Hermitian geometry, we study Sasaki with torsion manifolds. In particular, we characterize co-Kähler-like and flat Sasaki with torsion manifolds, and we introduce the notion of a $\nabla$-Einstein manifold as the odd-dimensional analogue of the Bismut Hermite-Einstein condition. We provide non-compact examples and we study compact $\nabla$-Einstein manifold in dimension $5$ and $7$. We also develop a general framework for geometric flows of almost contact metric structures. In particular, we derive a flow for Sasaki with torsion structures that preserves the strong condition, that is, the closure of the torsion. Furthermore we prove that such flow is gauge-equivalent to the generalized Ricci flow and it is gauge-equivalent to the pluriclosed flow, after performing a trivial product with $S^1$.

Response Geometry for Einstein metrics

We develop a response geometry for smooth parameterized families of Einstein metrics equipped with canonical probe data. The differential of the probe observations defines a response bundle morphism; pulling back a fixed metric on the observation bundle gives a positive-semidefinite response tensor whose kernel is exactly the space of first-order invisible parameter directions. On the complete-response locus this tensor is Riemannian and yields local rigidity and quantitative reconstruction estimates whenever the response is locally realized by an observation map. We study rank-defect loci, the associated quotient geometry, Gram and conditioning operators, response volume, and covariant variation formulas for simple response eigenvalues. Under an explicit realizability hypothesis we also show that a single scalar observation can be chosen to detect every direction of a finite-dimensional parameter space. These constructions are applied to the harmonic-probe package arising from the Einstein Detection Principle. A finite-dimensional interval-matrix example illustrates the quantitative formulas, while marked unit-volume flat two-tori provide a fully explicit model: three harmonic-energy observations reconstruct the marked metric globally, the induced response metric admits an explicit positively curved hyperboloid realization, and its conditioning deteriorates toward the cusp.

Global Future Existence for a Nonlinear Wave Equation in a (1+3+n)-dimensional Cosmological Supersymmetric Spacetime

This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem for a semilinear wave equation with arbitrary quadratic nonlinearities, posed on a cosmological supersymmetric spacetime of the product form (Open Milne) $\times K$, where $K$ is a compact, Ricci-flat $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold. We establish the global future existence of solutions for small initial data. Our proof, based on a novel modified energy, avoids spectral decompositions of the Laplace operator on the internal manifold and does not require any special nonlinear coupling structure. This robust framework is expected to be readily extendable to tensorial wave equations, including the Einstein equations.

Scalar Curvature Flexibility in the Riemannian Burnett Compactness Class

Let $M$ be a connected smooth $n$-manifold without boundary, where $n\geq3$, and let $\kappa\in\mathbb{R}$, with $\kappa\leq0$ if $M$ is open. We prove that every smooth Riemannian metric $g_0$ with $\mathrm{Scal}_{g_0}\geq\kappa$ is a locally uniform limit of smooth Riemannian metrics $g_i$ with $\mathrm{Scal}_{g_i}=\kappa$ that are locally uniformly bounded in $W^{1,\infty}$. As a corollary, combining this with Gromov's $C^0$-stability theorem, we obtain the perhaps surprising identity \[ \overline{\{g:\mathrm{Scal}_g=\kappa\}}^{\,C^{0,\alpha}_{\mathrm{loc}}}=\{g:\mathrm{Scal}_g\geq\kappa\}, \quad \forall \alpha \in(0,1). \] The restriction $\alpha<1$ is sharp. At $\kappa=0$, this proves and strengthens the Riemannian reverse-Burnett conjecture of Huneau and Luk.

A Torelli-type theorem for hyperkähler quotients

In this paper, we investigate the moduli space of algebraic asymptotic hyperkähler structures on hyperkähler quotients arising from a quaternionic vector space $\mathbb{H}^n$. We consider the period map on this moduli space, and prove a Torelli-type theorem (i.e., the bijectivity of the period map) assuming the surjectivity of the Kirwan map. This work provides an algebro-geometric generalization of the Torelli-type theorem for ALE gravitational instantons by Kronheimer (1989). In particular, this theorem applies to toric hyperkähler varieties and Nakajima quiver varieties.

Open full-metric formation and local marked first-order asymptotic moduli of FIK blowdown singularities

We prove that the Feldman–Ilmanen–Knopf (FIK) blowdown singularity has a nonempty open nonlinear formation basin in the full space of smooth Riemannian metrics and, on a smaller neighborhood, local marked first-order asymptotic moduli. Given a closed connected oriented Riemannian four-manifold, an implantation point, and a positive time bound, its oriented blow-up admits a relatively $C^{2,\alpha}$-open set of smooth metrics whose Ricci flows form, before that time, a localized FIK singularity with global Type-I curvature control. No symmetry, Kähler condition, or finite-dimensional tuning is imposed. Curvature stays uniformly bounded outside the implantation region; fixed-convention marked rescalings converge along the full singular-time sequence to the ancient FIK flow; and the exceptional sphere has sharp FIK asymptotics for area, intrinsic diameter, and curvature. To our knowledge, this is the first open full-metric formation theorem for a finite-time singularity modeled on a noncompact, noncylindrical shrinker. A self-contained spectral certification identifies the weighted FIK operator's nine-dimensional nonnegative space with the scaling and diffeomorphism directions, and exact modulation removes this block. On a smaller little-Hölder $h^{2,\alpha}$ neighborhood, a fixed positive-time restart yields the marked first-profile coordinate $\mathfrak{A}_1=\lambda_\infty^{-\gamma_1}V_\infty\in E_1$. This amplitude is a split $C^1$ submersion and locally the projection onto $E_1$. Equality of amplitudes characterizes marked first-order agreement; a transverse disk uniquely realizes each sufficiently small amplitude; normalized two-flow differences converge to the corresponding Jacobi field; and the amplitude determines the first quadratic scale and phase response. This gives a complete local marked first-order profile coordinate for FIK blowdown.

On the existence of nonconstant solutions of system of Lane-Emden equations on $\mathrm{RCD}^*(-K,N)$ spaces

In this article, we establish elliptic gradient estimates for positive solutions of the Lane-Emden system on metric measure spaces satisfying the synthetic Ricci curvature-dimension condition $\mathrm{RCD}^*(-K,N)$. Our approach combines the weak differential calculus and the Bochner inequality available in the $\mathrm{RCD}^*(-K,N)$ setting with suitable auxiliary function arguments, extending classical gradient estimate techniques to nonsmooth spaces. As an application, we prove a Liouville-type theorem for positive solutions under appropriate geometric assumptions. This result helps us to identify constraints for which constant solutions exist. We also mention some cases where nonconstant solutions may exist in sequel. These results generalize corresponding results from the smooth Riemannian setting and contribute to the study of nonlinear elliptic systems on spaces with synthetic Ricci curvature lower bounds.

On rigidity of Finsler manifolds without conjugate points and with constant $S$-curvature

We study rigidity phenomena in closed Finsler manifolds without conjugate points under assumptions on the $S$-curvature. We prove that a closed $C^\omega$ Finsler manifold with constant $S$-curvature, continuous Green bundles, and admitting a hyperbolic closed geodesic must be Riemannian. In the $C^\infty$ setting, the same conclusion holds under the additional assumption that the geodesic flow is transitive. As a consequence, we obtain rigidity results for Finsler manifolds with uniform visibility universal covering. Our approach is based on the analysis of the Cartan vector field as a Jacobi field and its interaction with the geometry of Green bundles.

The Harmonic Variational Principle for the Einstein-Hilbert Functional

Let (M,g) be a compact n-dimensional Riemannian manifold, n>2. We introduce a restricted variational principle for the Einstein-Hilbert functional by requiring the admissible metric variations to satisfy the harmonic gauge condition. We derive the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equation and show that a metric is critical with respect to all volume-preserving harmonic variations if and only if its Einstein tensor differs from a multiple of the metric by an element of the image of the adjoint Bianchi operator. We prove that every harmonic critical metric determines a compact Ricci soliton whose soliton constant is given by the normalized Einstein-Hilbert functional. By Perelman's theorem, every such metric is in fact the metric of a compact gradient Ricci soliton. Conversely, every compact gradient Ricci soliton satisfies the restricted Euler-Lagrange equation. Thus, a compact Riemannian metric is harmonic critical if and only if it is the metric of a compact gradient Ricci soliton. We further show that the gauge one-form differs from the negative differential of a soliton potential by a Killing one-form. In particular, if the Ricci tensor is negative definite, then the gauge one-form vanishes and the metric is Einstein. Moreover, every non-Einstein harmonic critical metric is necessarily shrinking.

The sharp volume gap for Kähler manifolds with positive Ricci curvature

We prove a sharp volume gap estimate: if an $n$-dimensional compact Kähler manifold $(X, \omega)$ satisfies $\mathrm{Ric}(\omega)\ge (n+1)\omega$ and $X\not\cong \mathbb{P}^n$, then $\mathrm{vol}(X, \omega)\le \frac{2n^n}{(n+1)^n}\mathrm{vol}(\mathbb{P}^n,\omega_{\mathrm{FS}})=\frac{2^{n+1} \, \pi^n \, n^n}{(n+1)^n}$. Moreover $\mathrm{vol}(X, \omega)= \frac{2^{n+1} \, \pi^n \, n^n}{(n+1)^n}$ occurs if and only if $(X, \omega)$ is biholomorphically isometric to the Kähler-Einstein metric on the quadric hypersurface $Q^n$ or on the product $\mathbb{P}^1\times \mathbb{P}^{n-1}$. We also obtain sharp volume gap estimates for K-semistable toric log Fano pairs.

The canonical submersion of $\mathcal{S}$-manifolds and transverse Kähler-Einstein structures

This paper is devoted to the study of the holonomy properties of $(2n+s)$-dimensional $\mathcal{S}$-manifolds equipped with their characteristic connection. These structures generalize Sasakian geometry to higher CR-codimensions and, when viewed as geometries with parallel skew-torsion, share many holonomy features with the Sasakian case. We show that $\mathcal{S}$-manifolds of arbitrary CR-codimension $s\geq 1$ provide examples of geometries with parallel skew-torsion whose holonomy is reducible, indecomposable, and of special type. We also deduce that any $\mathcal{S}$-manifold admits a locally defined Riemannian submersion over a Kähler manifold. We describe the corresponding curvature relations and establish a bijective correspondence between the Kähler-Einstein condition on the base space and a generalized $\eta$-Einstein condition on the total space. As every $\mathcal{S}$-manifold comes with a characteristic foliation whose transverse geometry is Kähler, it is natural to relate the $\eta$-Einstein condition to the transverse metric, leading to a bijection between $\eta$-Einstein $\mathcal{S}$-manifolds and transverse Kähler-Einstein metrics, extending the classical Sasakian correspondence to arbitrary CR-codimensions. As an application to Ricci-flat metric connections with parallel skew-torsion, we prove that an $\mathcal{S}$-manifold is ${\rm Ric}^{\nabla}$-flat if and only if it is transverse Kähler-Einstein with Einstein constant $\lambda=4s$. An illustration of this characterization is presented by a Sasakian example.

Flow decomposition and stochastic completeness of weighted graphs

We give a new proof by flow decomposition of the known Grigor'yan type integral criterion for stochastic completeness of weighted graphs. The main ingredient is a finite-domain estimate relating the mass of a killed $1$-resolvent and the current reaching the boundary to relative capacities of intrinsic balls. This estimate yields logarithmic criteria in terms of capacity to infinity and relative capacity, and recovers the volume criterion by an intrinsic cutoff, without passing to a metric graph or refining the graph.

Incidence Relations for Self-Dual Black Holes

In Penrose's nonlinear graviton construction, a self-dual spacetime arises as the moduli space of holomorphic twistor lines in curved twistor space, whose explicit parametrization is concretely given by the incidence relation. We demonstrate a concrete local construction of the incidence relations for self-dual black hole spacetimes in Kerr-Schild coordinates: Eguchi-Hanson, self-dual Taub-NUT, and self-dual Plebański-Demiański. This is facilitated by implementing the Dunajski-Mason recursion in the framework of Plebański's second heavenly equation, for which we explicitly find the Plebański scalar. Our results describe closed-form formulae. Notably, for the self-dual Taub-NUT solution, the exact incidence relation exhibits linear dependence on the gravitational coupling. The construction of zero-rest-mass fields on self-dual black hole backgrounds is briefly sketched as an application.

Critical Geller Equations on Complex Hyperbolic Space: Sharp Stability, Ground-State Symmetry, and Global Compactness

For integers \(n,\ell\geq1\), set \(Q_\ell=2(n+\ell)+2\) and \(q_\ell=2Q_\ell/(Q_\ell-2)\). On the Siegel domain \(\Ucal=\Heis^n\times(0,\infty)\), we study \[ -\Delta_{\Heis^n}v -4\rho\bigl(v_{\rho\rho}+T^2v\bigr)-4\ell v_\rho =|v|^{q_\ell-2}v. \] For its Dirichlet form \(E_\ell\), we determine the sharp Sobolev constant and all extremals, prove \[ S_\ell\|v\|_{q_\ell}^2\leq E_\ell(v),\qquad E_\ell(v)-S_\ell\|v\|_{q_\ell}^2 \geq\kappa_{n,\ell} \operatorname{dist}_{\dot S^1_\ell} \bigl(v,\mathfrak M_\ell^{\R}\bigr)^2, \] where \(\mathfrak M_\ell^{\R}\) is the extremal cone. We classify nonnegative finite-energy solutions and establish the linearized kernel, profile decomposition, and attainment of the optimal stability quotient. Cayley conjugation yields ground-state symmetry and nondegeneracy, global Palais–Smale compactness, and perturbative existence for critical equations on \(\CHyp^{n+1}\). The mechanism is the radial lift \(v^\uparrow(z,w,t)=v(z,t,|w|^2)\), which reverses the interior-to-boundary construction by realizing the Siegel domain as a symmetry-reduced slice of a larger Heisenberg group. The completed-space reduction resolves the degenerate axis, hidden auxiliary concentration, and the mismatch of extremal cones. Together with the Cayley transform, this supplies the missing nonlinear layer—classification, stability, bubbling, and variational compactness—on complex hyperbolic space and provides a blueprint for other rank-one symmetric spaces.

Liouville Rigidity and Universal Spacelikeness Estimates for a Lorentzian Prescribed Mean Curvature Equation

We prove a Liouville theorem for nonnegative entire strictly spacelike solutions of \[ \operatorname{div}\left(\frac{\nabla u}{\sqrt{1-|\nabla u|^2}}\right)+u^p=0 \qquad\text{in }\mathbb R^n. \] If $n=2$ and $p\geqslant1$, or if $n\geqslant3$ and $1\leqslant p\leqslant\frac{n+2}{n-2}$, every nonnegative $C^2$ solution satisfying $|\nabla u|<1$ vanishes identically. This resolves, in the classical strictly spacelike setting, the nonexistence conjecture of Byeon, Ikoma, Malchiodi, and Mari, including the critical endpoint. No symmetry, decay, integrability, or uniform spacelike gap is assumed. A key ingredient is a universal bound, valid for every $n\geqslant2$ and $p\geqslant1$, for both the height $u$ and the Lorentz factor $(1-|\nabla u|^2)^{-1/2}$. Then a weighted trace-free tensor identity from the invariant-tensor approach, combined with a common cutoff estimate, a core-counting argument and Souplet-type feedback inequality, yields a unified proof in the subcritical and critical ranges. The upper endpoint is sharp for $n\geqslant3$, as supercritical radial solutions exist. The theorem also gives half-space rigidity for complete spacelike hypersurfaces, including at the critical exponent.
