Quillen's local parameter conjecture in dimension four

Let $R$ be a Noetherian regular local ring of mixed characteristic and dimension four, and let $r$ be a member of a regular system of parameters. We prove that every finitely generated projective module over $R[1/r]$ is free. We also prove that $\mathrm{Sp}_4(R[1/r])$ acts transitively on unimodular columns of length four and that every determinant orientation of a rank-two projective module is induced by a basis. The argument reduces freeness to two vanishing results: the degree-three Zariski cohomology of the naive degree-four Milnor–Witt sheaf and the alternating Witt group of $R[1/r]$. We establish these results using integral degree-two algebraic $K$-theory, supported hermitian $K$-theory, and local motivic cohomology. A finite-rank symplectic comparison relates the image of the completion obstruction to Milnor–Witt multiplication and yields the required symplectic frames.

A complex associated to a family of ideals and applications to subspace arrangements

We reprove and generalize a result of Derksen describing the Hilbert polynomial of the vanishing ideal of a transversal subspace arrangement in projective space. When the subspaces have all codimension 2, we describe explicitly the local cohomology modules of the corresponding defining ideal. This is achieved via a complex naturally associated to the subspace arrangement, whose basic properties are also investigated.

Gamma conjecture II and explicit Stokes data for a quadric projective bundle

We study the connection problem for the quantum differential equation of the Fano fourfold $X=\PP_{Q^3}(\OO\oplus\OO(1))$. The problem is to identify its canonical asymptotic solutions with exceptional objects and compute the associated Stokes data. We use exact Mellin–Bessel integral representations and uniform vector asymptotics on sectors wider than $\pi$, followed by analytic continuation that preserves the Gamma framing. Cohomological chiral symmetry and mutations of exceptional collections put all eight sections at a common phase. This proves Gamma conjecture II for $X$ and determines a full exceptional collection and its Stokes and central connection matrices at the unit Novikov point and a specified admissible phase. The chiral symmetry also gives a flat symmetric bilinear pairing, an orthogonality identity for the Stokes matrix, and an integral unipotent square root of the monodromy matrix for a full turn. We obtain explicit formulas for the connection data at the opposite phase; on the Gamma lattice, the half-turn acts by tensoring with a square root of the anticanonical bundle. The same spinor integral transform constructs two canonical Gamma sections for $\PP_{Q^{2m+1}}(\OO\oplus\OO(1))$, $m\geq1$, at positive parameters with distinct spectrum. Their sectors have opening greater than $\pi$, and their leading constants are independent of the dimension.

Geometry of some determinantal arrangements

Let $D_{m,n}\subset\C^{m\times n}$ be the union of the zero loci of the maximal minors of a generic $m\times n$ matrix, and let $U_{m,n}$ be its complement. We show that $U_{m,n}\cong\GL_m(\C)\times\Gr(m,n)^\circ$, where $\Gr(m,n)^\circ$ is the open stratum of the Grassmannian on which all Plücker coordinates are nonzero. For $m\in\{2,n-2\}$ this gives closed formulas for the topology of $U_{m,n}$ and recovers results of Yim. Our main result, which is computer-assisted, is that $D_{3,5}$ is not a free divisor. This answers a question of Yim. We determine $\Der(-\log D_{3,5})$ explicitly. It has projective dimension one, and it fails to be free exactly on the matrices of rank at most two. There the failure comes from a non-free transversal arrangement: the ten planes spanned by pairs of five general vectors in $\C^3$. Computations in further cases support the conjecture that $D_{m,n}$ is free only for $m\le 2$ or $n=m+1$.

Artin-Schreier curves of prescribed p-rank without extra automorphisms

Let p be an odd prime. We study the Artin-Schreier analogue of Poonen's problem of constructing curves without extra automorphisms. An Artin-Schreier curve carries an unavoidable deck group Cp, so the smallest possible full geometric automorphism group inside the Artin-Schreier locus is Cp. We determine the exact numerical range in which this minimum is attained, for every p-rank. More precisely, for integers r >= 0 and N >= 1, there exists an Artin-Schreier curve X/Fp with g(X) = (p - 1)N/2, gamma(X) = r(p - 1), Aut_Fp(X) is isomorphic to Cp if and only if either r = 0, p does not divide N + 1, N >= 3 and (p,N) not equal to (3, 3), or r >= 1, N >= 2r and (r,N) not equal to (1, 2). All models are defined over the prime field by explicit equations together with elementary choices of auxiliary polynomials, and every excluded admissible case is shown to carry an extra geometric automorphism. The main structural input is the theorem of Valentini and Madan on the uniqueness of the rational subfield of index p outside three exceptional families. We exclude these families by intrinsic arguments: the genus and p-rank in most cases, Nakajima's bound on p-subgroups of automorphism groups of ordinary curves for the ordinary family, and the Lehr-Matignon normal form for isomorphisms of one-point covers for the monomial family.

Open WDVV equations for non-commutative families of bounding cochains

We derive the noncommutative open WDVV equations for the open Gromov-Witten superpotential introduced in joint work of the author and Solomon, extending the Solomon-Tukachinsky equations to noncommutative differential graded algebras. The resulting recursive formulas facilitate the computation of open Gromov-Witten invariants with multiple boundary point constraints for even-dimensional Lagrangians. We apply the open WDVV equations to compute all open Gromov-Witten invariants for the real loci of even-dimensional complex quadrics of dimension greater than two. These computations show that open Gromov-Witten invariants with multiple boundary point constraints can be nontrivial in arbitrary dimensions. We also construct a character for a natural subalgebra of big quantum cohomology associated to a Lagrangian endowed with a point-like bounding cochain. The character is in the spirit of the Kodaira-Spencer map of Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono. Applying the character construction to the even-dimensional quadric illustrates how point-like bounding cochains refine the information about closed quantum cohomology obtained from weak bounding cochains of Floer theory. Open Gromov-Witten invariants with three boundary point constraints determine the two extensions of the character from the subalgebra to big quantum cohomology.

Classification of can-Var diagrams of mixed Hodge structures and monodromic mixed Hodge modules on $\mathbb{C}$

By our previous work, the category of unipotent monodromic mixed Hodge modules on $\mathbb{C}$ is equivalent to the category of can-Var diagrams of mixed Hodge structures. In this paper, we show that the associated graded diagram with respect to the weight filtrations decomposes as a finite direct sum of four basic types tensored with pure Hodge structures, which we call a split graded model. We then show that every unipotent monodromic mixed Hodge module is represented by a split graded model together with a finite family of $\mathbb{C}$-linear maps. We also obtain an analogous description in the case where the monodromy has no eigenvalue $1$.

Boundedness of polarized log Calabi-Yau fibrations

We investigate the boundedness problem for log Calabi-Yau fibrations whose bases and general fibers are bounded. We improve the results in arXiv:2504.05243 from birational boundedness to actual boundedness, which confirms a conjecture of Birkar and Hacon when the boundary coefficients belong to a fixed finite rational set. We also get a new proof for the birational boundedness result in arXiv:2504.05243 which is substantially more conceptual.

Finiteness of planar central configurations of five bodies for all positive masses

We prove that for every choice of five positive masses the planar five-body problem has finitely many central configurations up to similarity. This settles Smale's sixth problem for five bodies in the plane. Albouy and Kaloshin proved it for masses outside a closed algebraic subset of codimension two. We follow their method. Infinitely many central configurations would give an algebraic curve of complex solutions. At the places at infinity of the curve the valuations of the mutual distances must balance. We determine the possible valuation vectors at all positive masses, together with the mass conditions under which each can occur. We treat limits in which four bodies form a cluster of zero potential energy by expanding the potential, which is constant along the curve, at a place. This excludes, at every positive mass, one of the two diagrams in which such clusters occur, and part of the other. The same expansion excludes one further diagram at every positive mass. What remains is an exact analysis, by computer algebra, of the sets of mass conditions that can hold together at positive masses. Exact rational certificates show that the balance fails under each of them, except on a few one-parameter families of masses, which we treat separately. On the rays through $(1,4,4,4,4)$ and $(1,1,4,4,4)$ the certificates do not apply. On the first ray they cannot apply: there the complex equations have a continuum of solutions, as Albouy and Kaloshin observed. On these rays we count the real central configurations: there are 306 and 294 up to orientation-preserving similarity. The certificates, the programs that check them and a proof of the theorem in the Lean proof assistant are available.

Covering plane curves over finite fields with lines

We prove that, for every fixed $d\geq 2$ and $\varepsilon>0$, the $\mathbb{F}_q$-points of a geometrically irreducible reflexive plane curve of degree $d$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ can be covered by at most $\left(\frac{1}{d}+\varepsilon\right)q$ many $\mathbb{F}_q$-lines, provided that $q$ is sufficiently large. The same conclusion holds for $\mathbb{F}_q$-irreducible curves that are not geometrically irreducible, since they have only $O(d^2)$ $\mathbb{F}_q$-points. In particular, for sufficiently large $q$, the bound applies to every $\mathbb{F}_q$-irreducible plane curve of degree $d$ when $\operatorname{char}(\mathbb{F}_q)>d$. Our bound is asymptotically sharp. The proof combines Entin's Chebotarev density theorem for varieties over finite fields with the Pippenger–Spencer theorem on covers of nearly regular hypergraphs.

A Comparison Theorem for $p$-adic GKZ Hypergeometric $\mathcal D$-Modules and Complexes

We compare the $p$-adic GKZ hypergeometric complex with the hypergeometric arithmetic $\mathcal D$-module defined via six functors. Under the $p$-adic semi-nonresonance condition, the natural comparison morphism is a quasi-isomorphism. We prove concentration of the $p$-adic GKZ hypergeometric complex in degree $n$, establish overholonomicity under another non-Liouville hypothesis. When $(q-1)\gamma\in\mathbb Z^n$, we construct a Frobenius structure on its $n$-th cohomology and prove that its restriction to the nondegenerate locus is an overconvergent $F$-isocrystal of rank $n!\operatorname{vol}(\Delta)$.

Normal bundles of hyperelliptic curves and uniform propagation of semistability

Let $C$ be a smooth hyperelliptic curve of genus $g\ge2$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We prove that the normal bundle of the embedding of $C$ in $\mathbb{P}^n$, $n\ge3$, by the complete linear series of a general line bundle of degree $n+g$ is semistable if and only if $n\ge3g+1$. By openness, general complete embeddings of general curves of genus $g$ also have semistable normal bundle when $n\ge3g+1$. We then show that a general nonspecial curve of genus two and degree $d$ in $\mathbb{P}^n$ has semistable normal bundle except when $(n,d)$ is $(3,5)$, $(4,6)$, $(5,7)$ or $(6,8)$. The degenerations used in genus two extend to every genus $g\ge3$: semistability in all nonspecial degrees and dimensions follows from the cases $0\le d-n-g\le4g-4$. Together with a separate estimate for large $n$, this reduces semistability in each fixed genus to finitely many cases. The proofs combine degenerations to reducible nodal curves, explicit bounds on the degrees of subsheaves, and, in genus two, finitely many exact computations, which are provided as ancillary files.

Analytic Criteria for Detecting Bernstein-Sato Roots

We study roots of Bernstein-Sato polynomials of ideals. Our first main result gives a general partial differential equation criterion for detecting roots of the Bernstein-Sato polynomial of an ideal. For homogeneous case, we recast this criterion as an analytic condition, connecting the algebraic problem of locating roots with analytic properties of the defining data. As an application, we give a series of roots for the general determinantal ideal prove the strong monodromy conjecture for them. Keywords. Algebraic Vector Bundles on Cluster Varieties

We study algebraic vector bundles on cluster varieties. Over a perfect field of characteristic different from two, every algebraic vector bundle is trivial on a cluster variety with principal coefficients at an acyclic seed of irreducible finite Dynkin type. The proof is based on integral contractions of cellular $\mathbb A^1$-chain complexes and successive freezing. We also construct smooth cluster varieties admitting indecomposable rank-two vector bundles, whose nontriviality is detected by quadratic Euler classes. The cellular calculation also gives a criterion for stable freeness and computes integral real cohomology and the images of cycle class maps.

$G$-Equivariant Hilbert Schemes and Quadratic Forms

For a finite abelian group $G$ acting linearly on the plane let $\mathcal{X}$ be the associated quotient stack. We analyze a fine moduli space which parameterizes zero dimensional substacks of $\mathcal{X}$ whose corresponding subschemes of the plane have a given representation type, denoted by $\mathcal{X}^{[\rho]}$. By means of a Grothendieck-Riemann-Roch theorem of Toën we give explicit representation theoretic formulas of $\dim(\mathcal{X}^{[\rho]})$ for all $\rho \in \operatorname{Rep}(G)$ which are similar to the McKay correspondence. We also give a classification of all such quotient stacks according to an associated quadratic form called the Euler form. For $[\mathbb{A}^2/\mu_n]$ given by the cyclic action $\zeta \cdot (x,y) = (\zeta x, \zeta^{-1} y)$, we give an interpretation of the corresponding Euler form in terms of border strips which may be removed by a diagram, an equational characterization of $n$-core partitions, and the number of significant arrows of a monomial ideal as defined in "Smooth and Irreducible Multigraded Hilbert Schemes" by D. Maclagan and G. Smith.

Nef Hattori classes and products of projective lines

Let \(X\) be a smooth connected complex projective variety with an effective algebraic \(\mathbb C^{\times}\)-action, a nonempty finite fixed locus whose weights are \(\pm1\). We show that if its Hattori line bundles are nef, then \(X\) is algebraically isomorphic to \((\mathbb{P}^1)^{\dim X}\), and these bundles become the hyperplane bundles of the factors. The product statement follows from the nef-complexity classification of Enwright and collaborators, and we describe the isomorphism through global sections. To test the required nefness we specialise the orbit-graph criterion of Romano and Wiśniewski. The Hirzebruch surface \(\mathbb F_2\) is an example why the topological hypotheses alone do not imply either the product conclusion or the Fano property.

Local Constancy of the Betti Automorphic Category over the Moduli of Curves

Nadler and Yun conjectured that the automorphic side of the Betti geomet- ric Langlands correspondence forms a local system of categories over the moduli of curves. We prove this local constancy conjecture using purely microlocal methods, independent of the recently estab- lished Betti geometric Langlands conjecture. In particular, it follows that the Betti automorphic category depends only on the genus of the curve, verifying a conjecture of Ben-Zvi and Nadler.

Geometrically Abelian Sections on Higher-Dimensional Varieties

We investigate how much arithmetic information about a variety can be detected by sections of the geometrically abelian fundamental groups of sufficiently small open subvarieties. Over a \(p\)-adic field, such a section determines a rational point on the Albanese torsor, and, under a conjectural assumption, this point is represented by a \(0\)-cycle of degree \(1\) on the original variety if the variety has index \(1\). For curves, the latter statement holds unconditionally. Over finitely generated fields, such sections still force the relative Brauer group to vanish away from the characteristic. The key input is an identification of the Chern class obstruction attached to a section with the obstruction arising from local Tate duality. As a byproduct, we give a new proof of an open-subvariety strengthening of a theorem of Esnault and Wittenberg.

Wave packets asymptotics in $\kappa$-minkowski space

In this paper, we study the nature of wave packets and their decay behavior in the $\kappa$-Minkowski space. We employ techniques from singularity theory throughout our analysis. Specifically, we use methods from the theory of Lagrangian singularities and caustics to study the topology of the energy-level manifold. The Newton polyhedron method from the theory of oscillatory integrals is applied to analyze the decay behavior of wave packets. We find that for a generic Hamiltonian in the $\kappa$-Minkowski space, the associated wave packets exhibit different decay rates depending on the control parameter of the system. When the control parameter takes values on the cusp, the system exhibits decay of order $t^{-1/4}$; otherwise, it exhibits decay of order $t^{-1/2}$. This distinctive behavior of wave packets in the $\kappa$-Minkowski makes it fundamentally different from commutative spacetime.

Characteristic cycles and the Gevrey filtration of irregularity in hypergeometric families

We show that the characteristic cycle multiplicities of $A$-hypergeometric systems are upper semicontinuous in the parameter for every rational projective weight, thereby proving a conjecture of Schulze and Walther [Duke Math. J. 142 (2008), 465–509]. The proof uses a specialization formula for filtered families satisfying a fixed product support condition, expressing the difference between the special and generic characteristic cycles as the characteristic cycle of the first Tor module. Combined with the Gevrey index theorem, this yields upper semicontinuity of generic Gevrey irregularity and of each of its graded dimensions. We also construct non-Cohen–Macaulay semigroup rings whose Gevrey dimensions are constant in the parameter despite the presence of a genuine irregular slope, showing that the Gevrey jump locus need not coincide with the full exceptional arrangement defined by Ext.

Testing Algebraic Complete Intersections

Given independent and identically distributed samples samples from a probability distribution in a potentially high-dimensional real space, we study the problem of testing whether the distribution is concentrated near a real algebraic complete intersection of prescribed dimension, bounded degree, and bounded condition number. We design an explicit and effective learning procedure which either certifies the nonexistence of such a manifold, up to a controlled relaxation of the approximation threshold, or returns a candidate regression manifold with controlled geometric complexity. Equivalently, the procedure tests the manifold hypothesis within this hypothesis class. The proposed procedure relies on quantitative geometric estimates for regular polynomial systems, which lead to a tractable auxiliary optimization problem. We then develop a data-driven algorithm to solve this auxiliary optimization problem, establishing explicit bounds on its sample and arithmetic complexity.

Generalized linear cellular automata in groups and difference Galois theory II

In the first part of this series the $\sigma$-ring spanned by the periodic solutions of a generalized linear cellular automaton in a discrete group was shown to be Hopf–Galois, with pro-algebraic Galois group, while a Galois theory for the $\sigma$-ring spanned by the finite support solutions was left open, with parameterized difference Galois theory suggested as the tool. We apply that tool to automata over $\mathbb Z$. The Fourier transform turns the automaton into a rank one equation $\sigma(\hat x)=\hat\alpha\hat x$ over a field on which $\delta=z\,d/dz$ acts, and we compute, and algorithmically decide, its parameterized Galois group: for genuine automata with symbols rational in the time variable it is either $\mathbb{G}_m(\mathbb C)$ or $\mathbb{G}_m$, the dividing line being separability of the symbol, $\hat\alpha(z,t)=\gamma(z)\psi(t)$. Finally, the parameterized group in the time direction decides holonomy in the space direction; as a corollary, the Stirling numbers of the first kind are not spatially holonomic.

Hyperquiver varieties

We discuss the recently introduced concept of hyperquivers, due to Muller, Nanda, and Seigal, from the point of view of Kähler and hyperkähler quotients. In particular, we show that the Kähler hyperquiver variety ${\mathcal M}$, corresponding to a hyperquiver with a single hyperedge, is a projective variety isomorphic to the geometric quotient of the space of tensors with maximal multilinear rank. Moreover, the hyperkähler hyperquiver variety corresponding to doubling of this hyperquiver can be identified with the linear scheme corresponding to the sheaf of reflexive $1$-forms on ${\mathcal M}$.

On Igusa's conjectures for weighted homogeneous polynomials with isolated singularities

In 1991, Denef introduced an explicit formula for Igusa's local zeta functions in terms of embedded resolutions of singularities over $p$-adic fields with good reduction. In this paper, by slightly generalizing the $p$-adic McKay correspondence given by the second author in 2017, we extend Denef's result to the setting of $\mathbb{Q}$-embedded resolutions of singularities. Consequently, the strong monodromy conjecture with respect to Igusa's local zeta functions holds for weighted homogeneous polynomials with isolated singularities. Moreover, we use our formula to prove Igusa's conjecture for exponential sums in the case of non-degenerate weighted homogeneous polynomials with isolated singularities.

Topological inequalities for conic-line arrangements with some prescribed singularities

We study arrangements of conics and lines in the complex projective plane from the viewpoint of 4-manifolds. We introduce combinatorial conic-line arrangements, the conic-line counterpart of rank-3 matroids, together with their topological and smooth realisations, and we ask which restrictions on a complex arrangement survive when its components are replaced by locally-flat spheres in the same homology classes with the same local singularity models. For an ADE combinatorial conic-line arrangement of even total degree admitting a topological realisation we prove a Hirzebruch-type inequality; the proof uses only branched covers and the local topology of rational double points. In the complex-algebraic category we show that equality holds exactly when the arrangement is a maximising curve, hence free with prescribed exponents. We then introduce divisible and odd combinatorial conic-line arrangements and obtain inequalities and congruences for the multiplicity sequence of their resolutions, via cyclic branched covers, the G-signature theorem, spin structures, and Furuta's 10/8-theorem.

Atiyah classes and ellipticity of Oka manifolds

We prove that every weakly pseudoconvex Oka manifold admitting a positive line bundle is elliptic in the sense of Gromov, thereby proving Gromov's ellipticity conjecture. The proof establishes a cohomological construction of local sprays. Given a bundle morphism $\varphi\colon E\to T_X$, we introduce quadratic $\varphi$-vector fields on $E$ whose flows yield local sprays with fibre derivative $\varphi$. Their existence is characterized by the vanishing of the symmetrized $\varphi$-Atiyah class of $E$. This gives a local dominating spray on every weakly pseudoconvex manifold admitting a positive line bundle, without any Oka assumption. The positivity hypothesis is essential even for local existence: blow-ups at a single point of complex tori of algebraic dimension zero, and Kummer surfaces of algebraic dimension zero, admit no local dominating spray. The torus examples give compact Kähler Oka manifolds that are not elliptic and show that ellipticity is not preserved under blowing up, and that it is neither open nor closed in holomorphic families of compact Oka manifolds. Combined with the work of Xie and Zhao, the Kummer examples yield Oka K3 surfaces that are not elliptic. Under the additional Oka assumption, we globalize the local dominating sprays constructed above. The proof combines Oka approximation with a gluing argument based on weighted $L^2$ estimates for the $\bar\partial$-equation.

On the kernels of Lefschetz operators

We study the kernels of Lefschetz operators arising from complete intersections of nef classes. When the classes are semiample, we provide a complete characterization of mixed Lefschetz properties below a fixed degree – all obstructions are detected by irreducible subvarieties of relevant codimensions. We further show that the kernels in the next degree range vanish off the diagonal, while on the diagonal they admit bases consisting of fundamental classes of irreducible subvarieties annihilated by the Lefschetz operator. We also establish a kernel decoupling theorem for nef classes on complex Lefschetz modules. As an application, we obtain a kernel characterization for supercritical collections of nef classes, thereby proving a conjecture of Shenfeld-van Handel and Hu-Xiao.
