K-unstable Toric Varieties and Secondary Polytopes

For K-unstable toric varieties, Székelyhidi's optimal test-function $\Theta_{P}$ is a mysterious concave function over the moment polytope $P$, which gives the maximal destabilizer for K-stability, and encodes the limiting behavior of the divergent Calabi flow. As balanced norms quantize cscK metrics, we show that $\Theta_{P}$ can be quantized by the maximal destabilizers for Chow-stability, which are given by the shortest GKZ vectors, i.e., the least norm point on the secondary polytope for the set $P\cap k^{-1}\mathbb{Z}^{n}$. Properties and algorithm for general sGKZ vectors are given. Our result may provide a new method to detect the K-unstability of toric varieties.

The Supertrace Defect of a Graded Endomorphism

Motivated by Igusa's relation between relative cyclic homology and the logarithm of the graded Cartan determinant, we isolate the homological step behind the passage from logarithmic determinants to traces of powers. For a bounded chain complex $(C_*,d)$ and a degree-zero graded endomorphism $f$, not assumed to commute with $d$, we construct the universal quotient on which $f$ becomes a chain map. The kernel of this reflection iterates to a canonical functorial minimal filtration, whose Rees module gives a flat degeneration to an uncurved associated graded. For finite-dimensional chain groups all power supertraces of $f$ are represented by Lefschetz traces on this associated graded, so the resulting logarithmic-determinant and zeta series admit a canonical homological representation.

Ramification of the volume function close to asymptotic hyperplanes. Monodromy of boundary singularities

It is shown that the discriminants of boundary singularities introduced by V.~I.~Arnold naturally arise in integral geometry. They represent the irregularity sets of the volume function. This function maps an affine hyperplane to the volume of the part of a domain in the Euclidean space cut off by this hyperplane. For isolated boundary singularities, the role of the boundary is shown to be related to the hyperplane at infinity in the projective space. Versions of the Milnor fiber bundle adapted to the present problem are defined and studied. Analogs of the local even Petrovsky class are introduced and computed. It is proved that the volume function is locally finite-sheeted only if these classes are trivial. Such components of the complements to the discriminants (quasilacunas) are listed for simple boundary singularities — those having no moduli in the classification. The obtained results establish new obstructions to the algebraic integrability of domains in a Euclidean space.

The commuting scheme of $\mathfrak{g}_2$

We study the commuting scheme of the exceptional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_2$ via computational methods. Over a field of characteristic zero, we show that the commuting scheme of $\mathfrak{g}_2$ is reduced, Cohen-Macaulay and normal. Our computations give an explicit homogeneous system of parameters, determine the Hilbert series and degree, identify the first syzygies of the commuting ideal and show that it is not Gorenstein. We extend some of the above results to positive characteristic.

Uniform positivity of the tau invariant

We prove the Baker–Rumely conjecture that the tau invariant of a metrized graph admits a positive lower bound proportional to its total length, with an absolute constant. We also construct simple cubic metrized graphs whose normalized tau invariants tend to $59/7260<1/108$, disproving the proposed universal constant $1/108$. The lower bound is independent of the genus, the number of edges, and the distribution of edge lengths. Its proof combines a second-moment inequality for Euclidean lattices with a partition of the edge coordinates of a cycle lattice into three independent sets. The counterexamples have only two edge lengths and admit an elementary resistance calculation. Through the tropical moment identity, the lower bound also gives a uniform estimate for the non-archimedean terms in height formulas for Jacobians.

Counting higher-rank sheaves on toric threefolds

We develop an equivariant K-theoretic vertex formalism for a colored, abelianized higher-rank sector on smooth projective toric threefolds $X$. Nonzero first Chern classes are encoded as magnetic fluxes and absorbed into line-bundle twists, after which the virtual character is redistributed into finite perturbative, vertex, and edge contributions. We compute the resulting (unreduced and trace-free) virtual dimensions and analyze the interaction terms relevant to a possible reduction to rank one. We emphasize that, on a compact toric threefold, colored partitions do not classify all torus-fixed stable higher-rank sheaves: the resulting series is therefore a proposed abelianized/framed vertex series unless an additional comparison theorem with the full stable-sheaf moduli problem is supplied. When the threefold obstruction theory is not available in the desired form, we pass to the local Calabi–Yau fourfold $Y=\operatorname{Tot}(K_X)$ and formulate the corresponding colored DT4 vertex. A $K_X$-twisted tautological insertion removes fixed points with nontrivial fiber layers, reducing solid partitions to plane partitions at the level of the local vertex. In rank one we give a scheme-theoretic explanation: the Hilbert functor of subschemes of $X$ is canonically isomorphic to the constrained Hilbert functor of subschemes of $Y$ lying scheme-theoretically in the fixed zero section. Under the hypotheses of the DT4 K-theoretic Lefschetz/virtual-pullback formalism, the associated support insertion reduces the rank-one fourfold theory to the threefold theory. We keep this global rank-one statement logically distinct from the higher-rank colored-vertex reduction.

Relative completions and separating boundary divisors in moduli of curves

We study relative completions of fundamental groups of moduli stacks of curves of compact type and of partial compactifications of the smooth moduli stack. For $g\geq3$, the compact-type completion has commutative prounipotent radical with Lie algebra $\Lambda^3_0H\oplus H^{\oplus n}$. Fix $1\leq h\leq g-1$. We show that adjoining the one-node loci of the separating divisors whose genus-$h$ side carries at most two markings gives the same relative completion. The proof uses explicit separating-twist calculations in weight $-2$, pointed Johnson homomorphisms, and the lantern relation. Functorial specialization gives the corresponding results in positive characteristic for odd $\ell$ different from the characteristic. As a consequence, extension to compact type of iterated extensions of algebraic symplectic local systems can be tested on these selected divisors. We also prove that any collection of separating divisors giving the same relative completion contains at least $\binom n2$ divisors.

Code Equivalence and Automorphism Groups of Weighted Superelliptic Codes

We study permutation and monomial equivalence for one-point codes on weighted superelliptic curves. On strata where $H_m\simeq \Z/n\Z\times\Z/m\Z$ acts regularly on the evaluation set, we prove that these codes are Cartesian character codes and determine their primal and dual minimum distances. We compute the projective monomial normalizer of the regular action and classify the compatible permutation and monomial equivalences through the induced actions on the defining sets. When $d > n$ and $m \geq 2$, the common permutation automorphism group of the full filtration is exactly $H_m$, and the regular action can be recovered from its two lowest nonconstant members. We determine the full permutation automorphism group in closed form at the top of the filtration and give a field-independent finite certificate for $\PAut ( \CC_s ) = H_m$ in the remaining primitive cases treated here. The hull dimension is bounded by the genus on every regular stratum, apart from the type $(3,3,3)$. Explicit examples show that length, dimension, and hull dimension do not determine monomial equivalence, and that the hull profile together with the regular automorphism subgroup does not determine the curve up to isomorphism. As an application, we determine the corresponding hull-based invariants and punctured signatures used in support-splitting methods.

On the classification of polarized surfaces with weakly Ulrich or initialized aCM tangent bundles

Counterexamples to the Eisenbud-Schreyer conjecture on the existence of Ulrich bundles have appeared recently (see Anghel [A1] and the third author [Lo]). As weakly Ulrich bundles are a useful generalization of Ulrich ones, in this paper, we classify smooth surfaces $S\subseteq \mathbb P^N$ with weakly Ulrich tangent bundle. They are Del-Pezzo surfaces of degree at least 5 and we classify the possible embeddings. An interesting feature is the appearance of two infinite series of polarizations, which is quite different from the Ulrich case [BMPT, LR]. We also achieve the classification of surfaces with initialized aCM tangent bundles and, as a consequence, of surfaces with almost Ulrich tangent bundles.

Combinatorics of Mirković-Vilonen cycles in twisted affine Grassmannians

We investigate the explicit geometric and combinatorial structure of Mirković-Vilonen (MV) cycles in twisted affine Grassmannians associated with special parahoric group schemes. Using the twist map on configuration spaces of decorated flags, we obtain an explicit parametrization of twisted MV cycles by Lusztig data. We show that the changes between reduced words are governed by the usual Lusztig transformations for the reductive group arising from ramified geometric Satake correspondence. As a consequence, the moment polytopes of twisted MV cycles coincide with the usual MV polytopes for this group. Our construction applies to all special parahoric subgroups in the tamely ramified setting.

Cyclic automorphisms beyond the canonical bound

Let X be a smooth projective curve of genus g >= 2 over an algebraically closed field K, and suppose that Aut(X) contains a cyclic subgroup G of order N > 2g - 2. The cases N >= 2g + 1 are known. We treat the two boundary values N = 2g and N = 2g - 1. In the tame case we obtain an explicit finite list of ramification signatures. In odd characteristic we prove that the Sylow p-subgroup of G has order p and determine all wild boundary cases by a direct ramification analysis; the resulting curves are Artin-Schreier-Kummer fiber products. In characteristic two we prove that the 2-part has order at most four and classify all wild boundary cases, including Artin-Schreier-Witt normal forms for the C4 and C12 cases.

On leading Gopakumar–Vafa invariants of local $\mathbb{P}^2$ and leading Betti numbers of moduli spaces of one-dimensional sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$

In this paper we use the topological vertex formalism to derive a structural formula for the leading terms of the generating series of Gromov–Witten invariants of local $\mathbb P^2$. Then we give two applications of this formula. First we use this result to derive an explicit formula for the leading terms of the transformed Gopakumar–Vafa invariants of local $\mathbb P^2$. This is an extension of a formula of Guo–Zhou \cite{gz} from degree $2d-5$ to $3d-1$, and shares some similar features with the famous Göttsche–Yau–Zaslow formula. And as the second application, we prove Guo–Wu–Moreira's Conjecture \cite{gw} about the leading Betti numbers of the moduli space of one-dimensional Gieseker semistable sheaves on $\mathbb P^2$.

Core Coordinates and Negative Support in A-Hypergeometric Systems

For a homogeneous $A$-hypergeometric system, let $K_v$ be the intersection of the negative support family for a fake exponent $v$, and let $C_w$ be the set of indices of variables that do not occur in any minimal monomial generator of $\operatorname{in}_w(I_A)$. We prove that $K_v=\operatorname{nsupp}(v)\cap C_w$ holds for every parameter and every fake exponent if and only if $\operatorname{Cone}(A_{C_w})$ meets the interior of $\operatorname{Cone}(A)$. We give equivalent criteria using the reduced Gröbner basis and the associated regular triangulation. When the condition fails, we construct an infinite family of fake exponents for which the equality fails.

The topology of Kähler manifolds and 1-forms without zeros

We study how the topology and geometry of a compact Kähler manifold relate to the zeros of its one-forms. We determine all implications among several closely related conditions. In particular, we construct a smooth projective variety for which the Aomoto complex is exact for every nonzero holomorphic one-form and every semisimple local system, although every closed real one-form, and hence every holomorphic one-form, has a zero.

From wall structures to closed mirror symmetry. The case of $K_{\mathbb{P}^2}$: Renormalized periods over the positive real locus, closed Gromov-Witten invariants from wall functions, and tropical enumeration

We recover closed Gromov-Witten invariants and renormalized mirror periods for $K_{\mathbb{P}^2}$ by the same operation on a wall function. This gives a direct passage from the Gross-Siebert construction of intrinsic mirror pairs to classical enumerative mirror symmetry. The link is a polynomiality theorem for punctured invariants. Assuming the expected identification with the normalized slab function, we also obtain a finite tree sum for closed Gromov-Witten invariants in terms of types of plane tropical curves. The mechanism is expected to extend to more general Calabi-Yau mirror pairs.

Stability of the Cotangent Bundle on Surfaces with Ample Canonical Class

In this article, we study the Bridgeland stability of the cotangent bundle on K3 surfaces and surfaces with ample canonical class. On a surface $X$ with ample canonical class $K$, we find values $t_0>0$ such that the cotangent bundle is semistable with respect to the Bridgeland stability $\sigma_{tK}$ for all $t > t_0$. We also study special cases such as the fake projective planes and the fake quadrics.

Iterated cotangent-difference integrals over totally real cyclotomic fields

We study iterated cotangent integrals with cyclotomic shifts and express their values along specified reference paths in terms of cyclotomic multiple zeta values. Differences of cotangent forms extend to a punctured projective line over a totally real cyclotomic field, giving a family of "real cyclotomic multiple zeta values." With rational tangential endpoints, these difference integrals are periods of mixed Tate motives over that field; integral endpoint data yield periods over its ring of integers after inverting primes dividing the level. The associated framed motivic classes generate a Hopf subalgebra under Goncharov's coproduct.

Sequential exponential-motivic periods in spatially cut-off $\phi^4_2$

We represent constructive integrals in spatially cut-off $\phi^4_2$ by sequences of exponential-motivic periods. For a nonzero spatial cutoff, a single Galois transformation makes the partition periods diverge in modulus along every sequence of approximations satisfying the constructive estimates. For a fixed cutoff presentation, we characterize the subgroup of transformations admitting a bounded realization on the free field's $L^1$ space and prove that all fixed-observable limits on this subgroup are a common scalar multiple of their physical values. A one-variable quartic example shows that all transformed fixed-observable sequences can converge without such a bounded realization, with limits that are not proportional to the physical values.

Restrictions of the dot action representation

Regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties are subvarieties of flag varieties defined for any reductive group. Their cohomology carries a representation of the associated Weyl group, known as the dot action representation. In type $A$, these representations can be computed using the chromatic quasisymmetric functions of naturally labeled unit interval graphs. We prove that restricting the dot action representation of any Weyl group to a type $A$ parabolic subgroup yields a representation isomorphic to a direct sum of type $A$ dot action representations. This work is motivated by the conjecture that an analogous property holds for all parabolic subgroups. In particular, for classical Weyl groups of types $B/C$ and $D$, we use chromatic symmetric functions to provide a streamlined, combinatorial formula for the restriction to a specific maximal type $A$ parabolic subgroup. As an application, we prove a conjecture of Lesnevich regarding the representations associated with ideals of types $B$ and $C$ identified under the standard poset isomorphism. Specifically, we show that the corresponding dot action representations are isomorphic if and only if the ideals determine the same reflection sets in their respective root systems. Furthermore, we show that a Catalan number counts the total number of such ideals.

Moments and Large Geometric Monodromy for Linearly Constrained Kloosterman Families

We determine the connected geometric monodromy of the top-weight sheaves attached to linearly constrained Kloosterman families in every dimension n >= 4 and every characteristic p > max(2,n). The quantitative input is a fourth-moment identity whose auxiliary geometry depends on the moment degree rather than on the ambient family dimension. After an exact decoupling, the generic stratum is controlled by plane sections of the Cayley cubic, and a projective-ray argument gives the required power saving uniformly in each fixed dimension. On the geometric side, a local Fourier-transform calculation and Rojas-Leon's multiplicative-convolution formula produce a nonidentity unipotent boundary element. The fourth moment, reductivity, infinitude, and Larsen's alternative then give G_geom^0(W_n) = SL_r(n) without finite-group classification or numerical exceptional-case certificates. For comparison, we retain the independent Guralnick-Tiep route, including its sixth-moment and exact finite computations, but it is not used in the proof of the main theorem.

SU($N$) QCD, four-manifolds and Segre numbers

We study correlation functions of topologically twisted $\mathcal N=2$ supersymmetric QCD with gauge group $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ on a compact four-manifold $X$. We derive the Coulomb branch integral for all $N$, including new couplings to background fluxes for the flavor symmetry. For $X$ of simple type with $b_2^+>1$, the correlators become sums over a finite number of strong-coupling singularities on the Coulomb branch, and can be expressed using a number of Coulomb branch couplings. The sum contains the $\mathcal N=1$ vacua, which become the supersymmetric vacua when the $\mathcal N=2$ theory is broken to $\mathcal N=1$ by an adjoint mass deformation, and whose contribution we attribute to the instanton branch. We focus on asymptotically free $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ QCD with $N_f<2N$ equal mass hypermultiplets, and conjecture that its instanton contribution to topological correlators agrees with the generating function of virtual Segre numbers of rank $N$, which are intersection numbers on the moduli space of semistable sheaves on an algebraic surface. We present a precise dictionary for all $N$ between universal series for Segre numbers and Coulomb branch couplings at the $\mathcal N=1$ vacua. The calculation of these couplings requires new higher-rank techniques, involving Siegel modular forms, an exact $\mathbb Z_N$ symmetry, charge conjugation symmetry, factorisation of the Seiberg–Witten curve, and the blowup formula. For pure $\mathrm{SU}(N)$, our result agrees with earlier work by Mariño and Moore, and the twisted correlators give the $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ Donaldson invariants of $X$. For $\mathrm{SU}(3)$ QCD, we determine closed-form expressions for all 13 Coulomb branch couplings for each $N_f=1,\dots, 5$, and find precise agreement with results of Göttsche and Kool for virtual rank 3 Segre numbers.

Mirror symmetry for gCICY threefolds (I): a $[3,-1]$ block and a non-Gorenstein toric phase

We construct and analyze a mirror family for the generalized complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefold $X_+=[\mathbb{P}^1\,|\,3\ {-1};\ \mathbb{P}^4\,|\,2\ 3]$, with $(h^{1,1},h^{2,1})=(2,46)$. An auxiliary-variable presentation turns the negative-degree section into a variation of toric GIT. Crossing one wall flops 16 disjoint $(-1,-1)$-curves and yields a Calabi-Yau threefold $X_-$, a nef complete intersection in a toric $\mathbb{Q}$-Fano eightfold, which carries a genus-one fibration of index 4. Because this ambient space is not Gorenstein, the Batyrev-Borisov construction does not apply. We use the Hori-Vafa equations only to select a 2-parameter Laurent family, and construct a smooth projective crepant compactification $Y$ of the Laurent model with $(h^{1,1},h^{2,1})=(46,2)$; for very general parameters the Mordell-Weil group is $\mathbb{Z}/4\mathbb{Z}$. The periods of $Y$ satisfy a rank-6 Picard-Fuchs system with two maximally unipotent boundary points, whose indicial algebras are isomorphic to the rational even cohomology rings of $X_-$ and $X_+$. The resulting genus-zero predictions agree with independent counts of 176 vertical lines and 100 vertical conics on the genus-one fibration $X_-\to\mathbb{P}^2$.

Mirror symmetry for gCICY threefolds (II): $[3,-1]$ blocks, VGIT, and toric phases

The configuration matrices of generalized complete intersection Calabi-Yau (gCICY) threefolds contain negative entries, so their defining line bundles are not nef and the Batyrev-Borisov construction does not apply directly. We study gCICY threefolds in $\mathbb{P}^1\times B$ with a $[3,-1]$ block, that is, cut out by sections of $O(3)\boxtimes L$ and $O(-1)\boxtimes(L+R)$, where $B$ is a smooth projective fourfold and $2L+R=-K_B$. Auxiliary variables turn the generalized section into a relative variation of GIT, whose opposite phase is the zero locus of a rank-3 bundle on $\mathbb{P}^2\times B$; for general data the two phases are isomorphic or related by $\int_B c_1(L)^4$ disjoint Atiyah flops. Over products of projective spaces there are exactly 18 Calabi-Yau threefold configurations with a $[3,-1]$ block. All of them except the non-Gorenstein case studied in the companion paper have Gorenstein toric nef phases. Thus, for every other configuration in this classification, mirror symmetry is reduced after variation of GIT to ordinary Batyrev-Borisov duality, which gives the mirror Hodge numbers of the generalized phase itself. We analyze four examples with a $[3,-1]$ block and one outside this class in detail. For each we construct an explicit mirror and compute its fundamental period and low-order Picard-Fuchs system; the indicial algebras at the maximally unipotent boundary points are isomorphic to the rational even cohomology rings of the A-model phases.
