Measurements of lepton-flavour universality in semileptonic $B$ decays at Belle and Belle II

Tests of lepton-flavour universality in semileptonic \(B\)-meson decays provide sensitive probes of physics beyond the Standard Model. The Belle and Belle II experiments, respectively operating on the KEKB and SuperKEKB colliders in Japan, have collected \(e^+e^-\to B\bar{B}\) collisions at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the \(\Upsilon(4S)\) resonance in samples with a combined integrated luminosity exceeding \(1\,\mathrm{ab}^{-1}\). These data, with low particle multiplicity, constrained initial-state kinematics, and excellent lepton identification, provide an ideal environment to study lepton-flavour universality in semileptonic decays of \(B\) mesons. New results on the ratios of semitauonic \(B\)-decay rates compared to analogous light-lepton rates are presented. These include new Belle II measurements of branching-fraction ratios \(R(D^{(*)})\) involving exclusive \(B\to D^{(*)}\tau\nu\) and \(B\to D^{(*)}\ell\nu\) decays using semileptonic or hadronic reconstruction of the accompanying \(B\)-meson tag. Belle II and Belle measurements of angular observables in \(B\to D^*\ell\nu\) modes that test light-lepton universality and the Lorentz structure of the decay are also presented. The measurements are statistically limited and individually consistent with Standard Model expectations. The new \(R(D^{(*)})\) results are also compatible with experimental world averages, which continue to exhibit tension with Standard Model predictions. Belle II has now accumulated an \(\Upsilon(4S)\) data sample exceeding that of Belle, offering substantial opportunities for new analysis approaches and heightened precision.

A new AI-based Full Event Interpretation model for flavour physics

The increasing event complexity and data rates foreseen for future LHC coinditions motivate a transition from selecting proton-proton ($pp$) collision events by reconstructing predefined signal candidates to constructing a reduced data stream by interpreting the relevant event features in a signal-agnostic way. We explore the capabilities of deep-learning-based architectures on heavy-flavour physics using LHCb as a case study. Graph-based full-event interpretation techniques address the problem by representing visible products of $pp$ collisions as nodes of a graph, and reconstructing heavy-hadron decay chains hierarchically. A new neutral-particle-aware architecture extends the input data from charged tracks to calorimeter clusters, and uses metric learning to clusterize particles from the same decay chain in a common latent space. Tests on inclusive simulated $pp\to b\bar b$ events show that this approach retains its ability to reconstruct decay chains across a broad range of topologies and multiplicities. We discuss the resulting physics opportunities, with a focus on inclusive $b\to s\ell\ell$ measurements and on searches for exotic hadrons.

Using Line Segment Tracking to enable ML-based Track Reconstruction in CMS

High-pileup conditions in CMS during the HL-LHC era make charged-particle tracking increasingly challenging as detector occupancy and combinatorics grow. We present a hybrid approach that exploits Line Segment Tracking (LST) objects rather than individual hits to enable the first CMS ML-based track reconstruction algorithm. The LST objects, namely the triplets used in this study, are built according to geometry- and physics-driven criteria and carry richer local structure, geometrical cues, and physics quantities such as transverse momentum, which helps the model incorporate detector-level information from the start. We apply a Transformer encoder with geometrically masked sparse self-attention to embed these objects in a learned latent space, and use object condensation to assemble full tracks in a single inference step. This object-based representation reduces complexity in dense environments and makes the model less sensitive to ambiguities introduced by high pileup. Evaluated on CMS Phase-2 simulation of $t\bar{t}$ events at $\langle \mu \rangle = 200$, the approach achieves reconstruction efficiency comparable to the LST quintuplet baseline while reducing the fake rate by roughly a factor of three and suppressing duplicates almost entirely, demonstrating the promise of advanced ML architectures for next-generation particle tracking.

RINO: Renormalization Group Distillation with No Labels

Supervised machine learning in high-energy physics (HEP) requires training on labeled simulations of particle collisions, which are known to be unfaithful to the underlying physics. This leads to significant inaccuracies and biases in the transfer of trained models to real data, limiting the power of deep learning methods. Self-supervised learning (SSL) is a promising alternative for pretraining directly on real, unlabeled data. However, existing techniques largely operate with inductive biases inspired by domains such as images and natural language. We propose RINO (Renormalization Group DIstillation with NO Labels), which, for the first time, exploits the fundamentally multi-scale renormalization group structure of high-energy jet formation as a physically grounded source of SSL views. We define teacher-student representations across energy scales using different levels of hierarchical clustering, aligned via DINO-style self-distillation. To mirror the background-dominated nature of real collider data, RINO pretrains exclusively on jets from quantum chromodynamics (QCD) processes and is evaluated on out-of-distribution (OOD) transfer to rare signal classes. In our controlled data-efficiency study, RINO matches fully supervised training on JetNet after finetuning on only 1% of the labeled data. With the full labeled dataset, RINO improves OOD classification accuracy on top-quark jets by 5.9% and, without retraining, improves AUC on the unseen Higgs boson decay channel $H \to 4q$ by 4.1% over the strongest SSL baseline. Scale-structure diagnostics reveal that DINO-style self-distillation permits our backbone to retain scale-dependent structure. Ablation studies show that this accounts for an 8.6% OOD accuracy gap with respect to alternative SSL paradigms such as SimCLR. Code is available at https://github.com/zichunhao/RINO.

Dalitz plot binning optimization for the model-independent measurement of the CKM angle $\beta$ with $B^0 \to D \pi^+ \pi^-$, $D \to K_S^0 \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays

A model-independent measurement of the CKM angle $\beta$ can be performed using a time-dependent analysis of $B^0 \to D \pi^+ \pi^-$, $D \to K_S^0 \pi^+ \pi^-$ decays, where the Dalitz plots of both the $B$ and $D$ decays are divided into bins. The choice of binning scheme for the $B^0 \to D \pi^+ \pi^-$ Dalitz plot directly impacts the statistical sensitivity to $\beta$. This paper presents an optimization of this binning using a Fisher information-based quality factor $Q^2$ and simulated annealing. The optimized binning improves the sensitivity to $\beta$ by approximately $10\%$ relative to the equal-phase-difference baseline, as validated by toy Monte Carlo studies without experimental effects. The robustness of this improvement against decay time acceptance, Dalitz plot efficiency, Dalitz plot resolution, and background contributions is also assessed.

New topological phase transitions in $\kappa$-deformed $\phi^4$ lattice models

This paper explores topological phase transitions in the momentum space of the $\kappa$-deformed $\phi^4$ lattice model within the mean-field approximation. We show that the double-well structure of the momentum space gives rise to degenerate momentum states at high energies and that this change is marked by a phase transition. We investigate this transition using both numerical and analytical methods, with the analytical approach based primarily on singularity theory. Our numerical analysis shows that the energy at which the topological phase transition occurs is related to the noncommutative parameter by the simple power law $E \sim 1/\alpha^{4}$. By mapping the constant-energy-level surface to the $A_{3}$ singularity, we obtain the same result analytically. We also present results unique to noncommutative systems, showing that the fraction of particles in degenerate momentum states has a nonzero commutative limit. As a nonperturbative effect, this result provides a testable prediction for the existence of noncommutative spacetime.

Real-time Track Reconstruction with FPGAs: an example from MUonE

The feasibility of real-time track fitting of straight tracks for online event selection is shown in the context of the MUonE experiment. In order to reach the high throughput and low latency required for real-time track fitting, the tracking algorithm is implemented using High-Level Synthesis for an FPGA, which provides provides a balance between flexibility and performance. Hardware tracking results from a test with high-rate muons at the CERN M2 beam are presented. This test, a joint effort by the MUonE and Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiments, operated with Two-Strip (2S) modules provided by the CMS tracker group. The prototype version of the fitter used in this test achieves 3.75 $\mu$s latency and 7.75 % resource use. A comparison of the results with those obtained from a pure software implementation shows agreement well below relevant uncertainty scales. Developments since the test are also presented, with the hardware algorithm now reaching 1.35 $\mu$s latency and producing pipelined fitting results above 50 MHz while requiring less resources than the initial version. Doing so required including certain assumptions in the algorithm, but these assumptions hold for linear track fitting in general and algorithm remains useful in contexts other than MUonE.

Modular $S_4$ Inverse Seesaw at the LZ High-Recoil Frontier

The extension of the LUX–ZEPLIN nuclear-recoil analysis to approximately $270\,\mathrm{keV}$ probes a qualitatively new dark-matter regime in which endothermic scattering can suppress conventional low-energy recoils and concentrate the surviving spectrum near the Galactic high-velocity tail. We construct a modular-$S_4$ realization in which a minimal $2N_R+2S$ inverse seesaw accounts for lepton flavor, while a separate pair of Standard-Model-singlet fermions forms the pseudo-Dirac state relevant for high-recoil xenon scattering. The sectors share a common complex modulus $\tau$, so the modular forms selected by charged-lepton and neutrino data also enter the operators generating the dark Dirac mass and Majorana splitting. Our scan yields $181447$ lepton-sector solutions satisfying $\chi^2_{\ell+\nu}<30$, distributed among several disconnected modular regions, and predicts one effectively massless light neutrino at leading order. Restoring the physical scales allows TeV-scale heavy quasi-Dirac neutral fermions with small non-unitarity. We subsequently scan $2\times10^6$ dark-sector points only over flavor-accepted values of $\tau$ and identify common-modulus solutions in the LZ-oriented region $300\,\mathrm{GeV}\le m_\chi\le2\,\mathrm{TeV}$ and $300\,\mathrm{keV}\le\delta\le400\,\mathrm{keV}$. An exploratory two-bin Poisson likelihood, including endothermic xenon kinematics, the Helm form factor, Standard-Halo-Model velocities, Gaussian energy smearing, and profiling over the signal normalization, gives a best grid point at $(m_\chi,\delta)\simeq(1.847\,\mathrm{TeV},371.5\,\mathrm{keV})$, close to the terrestrial inelastic kinematic ceiling. The construction provides a direct link between modular lepton flavor, TeV-scale inverse-seesaw dynamics, and high-recoil inelastic dark matter.

Measurement of the cross sections for $e^{+}e^{-}\to p\bar{n}\pi^{-}$ at center of mass energies from 3.510 to 4.946 GeV

Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 43.8~fb$^{-1}$ collected with the \mbox{BESIII} detector at 44 center-of-mass energy points between 3.510 and 4.946~GeV, the Born cross sections for the process $e^+e^- \to p \bar{n} \pi^-$ and its charge-conjugated process are measured. The energy dependence of the dressed cross sections is investigated to search for possible contributions from vector charmonium and charmonium-like states. No evidence for contributions from the $\psi(3770)$, $Y(4230)$, $Y(4360)$, $\psi(4415)$, $Y(4500)$, or $Y(4710)$ resonances is observed. The upper limits at the 90% confidence level are determined for the products of the electronic partial widths and the branching fractions for the decays of these resonances into the $p \bar{n} \pi^- + \mathrm{c.c.}$ final state.

Measurements of the branching fractions of \boldmath $\chi_{cJ}\to\Sigma^0\bar{\Sigma}^0\eta$

Using $(2712.4\pm14.3)\times10^{6}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the first observations of the decay $\chi_{cJ}(J=0,1,2) \to \Sigma^0\bar{\Sigma}^0\eta$. The signal significances, after considering systematic uncertainties, are determined to be 7.2$\sigma$, 5.7$\sigma$, and 6.7$\sigma$ for $\chi_0$, $\chi_{c1}$, and $\chi_{c2}$, respectively. The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal B(\chi_{c0}\to\Sigma^0\bar{\Sigma}^0\eta)=({9.7 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.8}) \times 10^{-5}$, $\mathcal B(\chi_{c1}\to\Sigma^0\bar{\Sigma}^0\eta)=({4.9 \pm 1.1 \pm 0.4}) \times 10^{-5}$, and $\mathcal B(\chi_{c2}\to\Sigma^0\bar{\Sigma}^0\eta)=({6.1 \pm 1.2 \pm 0.3}) \times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. No significant structure in the $\Sigma^0\bar{\Sigma}^0,\Sigma^0\eta,\bar{\Sigma}^0\eta$ mass distributions is observed under the current statistics.

Detecting photons in radiative Bhabha interaction with Si-strip and LYSO crystals at future e+e- colliders

Next-generation e+e-colliders have been proposed for the Super Tau Charm Facility covering center-of-mass energies sqrt(s) = 2-7 GeV, and for the Higgs Factories optimized for Z-pole physics and for HZ production. Luminosity can be determined by measuring forward Bhabha scattering. The QED cross-section calculation has reached a precision of better than 10^-3. Detecting radiative photons in Bhabha events provides a tool for validating higher-order corrections in theory. We propose the Forward Detector for detecting Bhabha scattering events at the STCF. The design uses high-resolution silicon detectors and finely segmented LYSO crystals to discriminate radiative photons from closely associated electrons. Bhabha scattering events are simulated with the BHLUMI and BHWIDE programs, and the detector is modeled using GEANT. Systematic uncertainties due to multiple scattering and bremsstrahlung in the beam pipe were evaluated. The potential for achieving precise measurements of radiative processes in Bhabha events is investigated.

Development of high-resolution timing technique in the past 25 years

This paper reviews recent progress in high-resolution timing, rate capability, and aging performance of particle detectors in the context of developments over the past 25 years. It focuses on MCP, SiPM, LGAD, 3D silicon, and SiEM detectors and compares their performance with that of gaseous timing detectors. In addition, preliminary results from a simplified simulation program, Mini-TCAD, are presented, indicating that hexagonal 3D silicon cells may provide better drift-time uniformity and timing resolution than square cells.

Exploring Collective Effects in Small Collision Systems via Light-Flavour Particle Production in High-Multiplicity pp Collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV in ALICE

High-multiplicity pp and p-Pb collisions show signatures of radial and anisotropic flow, as well as the enhanced production of strange hadrons. These observations resemble phenomena seen in heavy-ion collisions, where a quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is formed, although their origin in small systems remains under discussion. This contribution presents ALICE Run 2 results on light-flavour hadron ($\pi$, K, p) production in high-multiplicity (HM) pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, where the charged-particle multiplicity reaches values comparable to peripheral or semi-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions. The multiplicity dependence of $\pi$, K, and p transverse momentum spectra, $p_{\rm T}$-differential and $p_{\rm T}$-integrated particle ratios, and mean transverse momenta ($\langle p_{\rm T}\rangle$) is presented and compared with published results from other collision systems and energies, as well as with PYTHIA 8 and EPOS4 model calculations.

Forward decay chain reconstruction with displaced vertices in intense magnetic fields

Precise reconstruction of particle decay chains is essential for a broad range of analyses in particle physics experiments, particularly those targeting flavour physics and spectroscopy. We present a standalone, modular and extensible decay tree reconstruction framework designed to handle complicated topologies, accounting for tightly constrained particle decays and long-distance trajectory extrapolations through regions of intense and inhomogeneous magnetic field, as well as limited momentum resolution. Implemented in C++, the framework is optimised for configurability and performance. Developed primarily within CERN's LHCb experiment, its focus is on decay chains with vertices located several metres from the LHC proton-proton interaction point, where the dipole magnetic field is maximal and non-uniform. Even so, it remains flexible: it can accommodate these special cases as well as the approximations commonly used in standard decay tree fitting tools, and the geometries of general-purpose collider detectors. Benchmark studies using simulated data demonstrate significant improvements in reconstruction efficiency, invariant mass resolution, and vertex position resolution with respect to existing tools, opening new opportunities for precision measurements and searches involving highly displaced decays.

Characteristic Modes of Non-minimally Coupled Thick Branes

Characteristic modes provide important information about the intrinsic properties and dynamical response of gravitational systems. In this work, we investigate characteristic modes of thick branes with a non-minimally coupled bulk scalar field. Two representative thick brane solutions are considered, corresponding to a single-kink scalar configuration and a deformed kink configuration with internal structure, respectively. By analyzing the tensor perturbation equations, we first examine the localization of the graviton zero mode in the two brane models. For both brane models, the graviton zero mode is localized on the brane. No pronounced resonant Kaluza–Klein (KK) modes are found for the single-kink brane at $\xi=1/7$. For the deformed brane, we investigate the resonant KK modes at $\xi=0.99$, finding that increasing the deformation parameter $k$ leads to more resonant modes and a longer-lived first resonance. We then calculate the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of both brane models independently in the frequency and time domains. The quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) obtained by the independent methods agree well for the low overtones. The masses and decay rates of the resonant KK modes agree closely with the real parts and the magnitudes of the imaginary parts of the corresponding QNFs, respectively.

AI Acceleration of Muon Collider R&D: A Report from the AI4MuC Workshop

A Muon Collider is one of the most attractive routes to multi-TeV lepton collisions, but it requires the accelerator and detector communities to solve a tightly coupled set of problems that have no close precedent in an operating collider. Muons must be produced, captured, cooled, accelerated, and collided before they decay. The detector must then extract clean physics from an environment dominated by decay products from the beamline. Artificial intelligence is not a substitute for accelerator physics, detector design, or engineering validation. It is, however, unusually well matched to several of the central obstacles: high-dimensional design spaces, expensive simulations, coupled subsystem trade-offs, and workflows that are currently too slow or too fragile to support broad design exploration. This report distills the AI4MuC workshop into a summary of AI use cases with the potential to change the pace of Muon Collider R&D, organized around the following physics bottlenecks: muon production and capture, ionization cooling, magnet and RF technology, detector design in beam-induced background, background simulation and generation, reconstruction, and software.

Energy-energy correlators within $Z$-tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

Energy-energy correlators probe perturbative and nonperturbative QCD regimes of jet formation through momentum-weighted angular correlations between hadrons. First measurements in light-quark-enriched jets are presented for inclusive, like-sign, and opposite-sign charged-hadron pairs, using proton-proton collisions at LHCb. The results support universality of the confinement scale for light-quark-initiated jets across collision systems and the reported transverse momentum scale of the jet. In the charge-dependent measurements, opposite-sign correlations are enhanced as angular separation decreases down to the confinement-scale region, a behavior that is well described by simulations.

Disappearing Tracks from Electroweak Vector Dark Matter at the LHC

We study the disappearing-track signature of a spin-1 minimal dark matter candidate transforming in the real five-dimensional representation of $SU(2)_L$ with vanishing hypercharge. Radiative electroweak corrections induce a compressed mass spectrum among the multiplet components, allowing the singly charged state $V^\pm$ to attain a macroscopic lifetime and decay via $V^\pm \to V^0 \pi^\pm$ inside tracking detectors. We recast the ATLAS search for disappearing tracks with the full Run-2 dataset of $137\text{ fb}^{-1}$, originally targeted at long-lived charginos, computing the tracklet reconstruction probability analytically from the published efficiency so that the full lifetime range is covered. The procedure reproduces the ATLAS limits for pure winos within $6\%$ in mass. The Run-2 data exclude quintuplet masses up to $1080\text{ GeV}$ for proper decay lengths $c\tau \simeq 250\text{ mm}$, and $M_V < 630\text{ GeV}$ for a mass splitting of $166\text{ MeV}$. For the radiative mass splitting predicted by the model with a small Higgs-portal coupling, masses between $120\text{ GeV}$ and $240\text{--}300\text{ GeV}$ are excluded. With $3\text{ ab}^{-1}$ and a Run-2-like analysis, the sensitivity would extend to $1750\text{ GeV}$ for vanishing background and to $1530\text{ GeV}$ for a linear extrapolation of the instrumental background.

Collider and direct detection as key probes of asymmetric dark matter: Signals from a compressed Inert Higgs doublet

The cosmic imbalance of particles over antiparticles may be inherited by the dark matter in a certain class of asymmetric dark matter models. In this article, we thoroughly investigate the signatures of the minimal realization of this idea. In this model a new (stable) inert Higgs, $H'$, plays the role of the mediator that facilitates the asymmetry transfer from the visible to the dark sector. It also constitutes a small dark matter sub-component, while the dominant component stems from a singlet scalar asymmetry. A combination of phenomenological and cosmological constraints requires this new inert Higgs doublet to be quite light $46\,{\rm GeV}<m_{H'}< 580\,{\rm GeV}$ and its spectrum rather compressed, $\Delta M = m_{H^\pm}-m_{H_0} \lesssim 1\,{\rm GeV}$ and $\delta m = m_{A_0}-m_{H_0}\lesssim 5\,{\rm MeV}$. Therefore its charged component can be relatively long-lived on collider length-scales. By recasting searches for compressed Higgsinos at the LHC, we derive new limits on this particle and show that, while at present most of the parameter space for this state is still unconstrained, large and key regions of parameter space will be tested at the HL-LHC by a combination of searches for disappearing charged tracks and displaced soft tracks. Quite remarkably, the lifetime of the charged component of the doublet can be correlated with the dark matter interaction rate at direct detection experiments and we show that the next generation of direct detection experiments has a unique sensitivity to the parameter space in the model. The fact that a small neutral mass splitting is a prediction of the asymmetric setup makes it an interesting candidate to account for the high energy nuclear recoil event recently reported by the LZ experiment. More generally, our detailed phenomenological study holds for any dark matter model involving an inert Higgs doublet with mass below 580 GeV.

Branching fraction measurement of the $B^0\to K^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-$ decay at high dihadron mass

This Letter presents the first measurement of the $B^{0} \to K^{+}\pi^{-}\mu^{+}\mu^{-}$ differential branching fraction in the region of the dihadron $K^+\pi^-$ mass, $m_{K\pi}$, $1000< m_{K\pi} < 1835\,\text{MeV}/c^{2}$. This decay mode is mediated by the quark-level transition $b \to s\ell^{+}\ell^{-}$, for which the measured effective couplings show tensions with Standard Model predictions. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $8.4\,\text{fb}^{-1}$. The differential branching fraction is determined across different regions of dimuon mass squared, $q^2$, in the interval $0.1 < q^2 < 18.0\,\text{GeV}^2/c^{4}$, as well as in different regions of $ m_{K\pi}$ in the interval $1.1 < q^2 < 6.0\,\text{GeV}^2/c^{4}$. The results represent the first differential measurement of the branching fraction across $m_{K\pi}$ within the selected dihadron-mass region, and the first observation of the decay within this region above the $J/\psi$ resonance.

Planck-Scale Constraints on Quantum Gravity-Induced Neutrino Decoherence with IceCube

Many quantum gravity theories predict spacetime fluctuations at the Planck scale. Neutrinos, which interact only via the weak force and gravity, propagate over long distances without losing quantum coherence. Planck-scale fluctuations would spoil that coherence, damping the flavor oscillation probability over long baselines. This makes neutrinos sensitive interferometers for Planck-scale physics. We present a search for quantum decoherence using 368,071 atmospheric neutrinos detected by IceCube in the energy range 0.5-100 TeV, an order of magnitude higher in energy than any previous decoherence search. We find no evidence for decoherence and set the strongest constraints to date on this class of neutrino decoherence models, improving on previous limits by over an order of magnitude for decoherence rate scaling as $E^2$ and $E^3$. These results exclude natural Planck-suppressed decoherence for all energy scalings $E^n$ with $0\leq n \leq 3$, the first such exclusion at the Planck scale for $n=3$.

Precision Tokenization for Multi-Modal Data in High Energy Physics

Foundation models have recently gained significant attention in fields such as high energy physics (HEP). The tokenizers that convert detector data into discrete inputs for such models, however, are comparatively unexplored. This paper addresses this gap by learning discrete and compressed tokenized representations of HEP datasets. We demonstrate the approach on four modalities covering two different simulated detectors that vary in complexity. Treating tokenization as a rate-distortion problem, a systematic hyperparameter scan yields four design rules for tokenizing HEP data that hold across all set-based modalities studied. The cost of tokenization is evaluated on tasks including jet $p_T$ regression, particle flow reconstruction, and flavor tagging. We find that tokenization preserves much of the information needed for these tasks at compression factors of approximately 4-11$\times$ while keeping the jet $p_T$ resolution below 1%. We also present heptokens, an open-source library for tokenizing HEP data.

The Redshift-Space Galaxy Power Spectrum at Two-Loop Order

Contemporary large-scale structure analyses center around the galaxy power spectrum, modeled with one-loop perturbation theory. This description naturally breaks down at large wavenumbers, prohibiting the extraction of cosmological information from small-scale clustering. In this work, we present a complete model for the redshift-space galaxy power spectrum up to two-loop order, derived in the framework of the Effective Field Theory of Large Scale Structure. This accounts for a wide variety of effects, including fifth-order galaxy bias, redshift-space distortions, small-scale non-linearities, spatial non-locality, long-wavelength bulk flows, coordinate distortions, and stochasticity, involving a total of 49 free coefficients. Our model additionally encodes all deterministic contributions to the one-loop bispectrum and trispectrum (as well as the tree-level quadspectrum and pentaspectrum), which depend on many of the same parameters. We implement the model numerically, using the vegas algorithm to precompute the loop integrals; this allows the full likelihood to be evaluated in milliseconds. The approach is validated using power spectra measured from high-resolution simulations, considering both dark matter and realistic galaxy samples. The extension to two-loop order greatly increases the range of scales over which the power spectrum can be modeled, with $k_{\rm max}$ rising from $0.2h\,\mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ to $0.34h\,\mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ for a luminous red galaxy sample at $z=0.5$. Much of the additional information is absorbed by the numerous fifth-order biases and counterterms; for this reason, constraints on $\sigma_8$ are not significantly enhanced by the inclusion of two-loop terms. Future work will assess the full implications of the two-loop model for cosmological parameter inference, both alone and in combination with higher-order statistics.

A machine-learning method for the estimation of the background from jets misidentified as hadronic tau lepton decays

Backgrounds arising from quark- and gluon-initiated jets misidentified as hadronically decaying tau leptons constitute a major experimental challenge for analyses involving tau leptons. The MUltivariate Fake-Factor INference (MUFFIN) approach, a machine-learning-based method for estimating this background directly from observed events, is presented. Boosted decision tree reweighting is used to learn multidimensional, per-object correction factors directly from observed data, thereby modelling the jet to hadronic tau lepton misidentification probability across the kinematic and topological phase space without relying on low-dimensional parametrisations. Performance studies are presented using proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13.6 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 62.4 fb$^{-1}$. Compared to low-dimensional parametrisation methods, improved modelling of key kinematic observables is achieved, particularly in regions of high $p_\mathrm{T}$. The improved modelling leads to a reduction of up to 70% in the systematic uncertainty associated with jets being misidentified as hadronically decaying tau leptons. The MUFFIN method provides a robust and scalable method for background estimation in precision measurements and searches for beyond-the-standard-model physics involving tau lepton final states.

nCTEQ26 nuclear parton distribution functions

We present the new release of nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) from the nCTEQ collaboration: nCTEQ26. In this global analysis, we combine our recent, more selective studies of different experimental measurements and extend them to determine a modern set of nPDFs based on the largest selection of data considered to date. This selection includes neutral- and charged-current deep-inelastic scattering (DIS), fixed-target Drell-Yan, and a large variety of collider data from RHIC and LHC Runs I and II. On the theoretical side, we match this considerably extended kinematic range with a new nPDF parametrization that combines a flexible functional form of the x-dependence with a quadratic logarithmic nuclear A-dependence as well as target-mass and deuteron corrections for the reliable inclusion of high-x DIS data. Following our previous successful work, we partially employ a data-driven approach that allows us to not only include open heavy-quark data, but also quarkonium data. In addition, we establish the consistency of this approach by comparing it to an alternative fit based on perturbative predictions of open heavy-quark data alone. We determine the uncertainties of our nCTEQ26 nPDFs with a Hessian error analysis, test their reliability by comparing our nPDFs to other, similar recent analyses, and make predictions for current and future experimental measurements that have not been included in the analysis.

Local Diagnostics of Learned Event Representations for Anomaly Detection at the HL-LHC

Anomaly detection, the identification of collision events that deviate from Standard Model expectations, is one of the most promising model-agnostic strategies for new-physics searches at the Large Hadron Collider. Searching for rare events in learned low-dimensional representations removes the need to commit to hand-crafted observables a priori, but sacrifices the immediate physical interpretation those observables provide. For anomaly detection to enter a discovery pipeline, flagged events must therefore be diagnosed locally, both to distinguish potential new physics from mismodeling or detector effects and to identify observables for targeted follow-up searches. We evaluate supervised and self-supervised neural embedding strategies on COLLIDE-2V, a 750-million-event dataset simulated under realistic High-Luminosity LHC conditions, using the reconstruction error of an autoencoder trained in the learned latent space as the anomaly score. Across the configurations and benchmark signals considered, supervised objectives, which exploit simulation process labels during training, generally outperform their self-supervised counterparts and, in their best configurations, improve on an autoencoder trained directly on kinematic features, raising the signal efficiency at 10% background acceptance on all held-out processes. We further introduce a local diagnostic pipeline that fits a Gaussian Mixture Model to the SM latent space, profiles each component through high-level observables without process labels, localizes the flagged events, and ranks observables by their local discriminating power. The ranking recovers the defining kinematics of the held-out processes, while correlating the anomaly score with the same observables quantifies how closely the score tracks them, revealing cases where the most discriminating observable is not the one the score follows most closely.

Simulation Study of Reconstruction of Cosmic Ray Extensive Air Shower with Thermal Neutron Detected by ENDA

In the investigation of the "knee" region within the cosmic ray energy spectrum, extensive air shower (EAS) reconstruction by using different EAS secondary particles are of paramount importance for energy determination and composition separation and finally measurement of energy spectrum of different cosmic ray composition. The Electron-Neutron Detector Array (ENDA) is designed to detect thermal neutrons generated in the ground by high energy hadrons which constitute the "backbone" of EAS and carry vital information regarding the primary cosmic rays. At present, ENDA-64, consisting of 64 detectors, is employed inside the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). This work simulates the response of ENDA and investigates the lateral distributions of thermal neutrons. A comparison of the NKG and double-exponential functions for describing this distribution using MC simulation data shows that the double-exponential function is more accurate. The mean difference between fitted and measured thermal neutron density is within ~ 6%. Meanwhile, the thermal neutron density at 10 m from the shower axis, $\rho_n$, depends mainly on the sum of all hadrons energy or the number of high-energy hadrons. The relationship between $\rho_n$ and EAS hadron energy or the number of high-energy hadrons can be well fitted by a linear function on a log scale. This work is fundamental for energy determination and composition separation with hybrid detection by using ENDA in the near future.

Recent results in $b \rightarrow s\,\ell\ell$ transitions at LHCb

Rare decays of $B$ hadrons, such as $b\rightarrow s\ell \ell$ processes, provide great avenues to search for the influence of new physics (NP). They are highly suppressed in the Standard Model (SM) and therefore sensitive to NP contributions. In recent years, experimental measurements have shown tension with SM predictions. It is still up for debate whether these stem from genuine NP or an incomplete understanding of the theory. These proceedings focus on the recent efforts of the LHCb collaboration to advance this field. Some of the results covered show that tensions in these processes, like in $B^0 \rightarrow K^{*0}\, \mu^+ \mu^-$, still persist upon higher precision. Others aim to shed some light on the theoretical picture through amplitude analyses of decays like $B^0 \rightarrow K^{*0}\, \mu^+ \mu^-$ and $B^+ \rightarrow K^+ \, \mu^+ \mu^-$. We also present two innovative measurements: the branching fraction of $B^0 \rightarrow K^+ \pi^- \mu^+ \mu^-$ at large dihadron mass; and the first hadron collider measurement of the lepton flavour universality ratio of $B^0 \rightarrow K^{*0} \, \ell^+\ell^-$ at high $q^2$ (dilepton mass squared).

Determination of $U$-spin breaking parameters with an amplitude analysis of the decay $D^{0}\to K_{\text{S},\text{L}}^{0}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$

We perform a simultaneous amplitude analysis of the decays $D^0 \to K_{\text{S}}^{0}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ and $D^0 \to K_{\text{L}}^{0}\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ using an $e^+e^-$ collision data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $20.3\,\text{fb}^{-1}$, collected at the centre-of-mass energy of $3.773\,\text{GeV}$ with the BESIII detector. This study, based on a significantly larger dataset than that used in previous work, presents an updated measurement of the complex $U$-spin breaking parameters ($\hat{\rho}$) associated with various $CP$ eigenstate resonant modes mediating the three-body decays. The magnitudes of the $\hat{\rho}$ parameters range from $0.62$ to $4.45$, indicating substantial $U$-spin symmetry breaking. We also report the resonant fit fraction and obtain a model prediction for the average strong-phase parameters over regions of phase space for both decay modes.

Observation of a Threshold Enhancement in the $\pi^0\pi^0$ Mass Spectrum in $\psi(3686) \rightarrow \pi^{0}\pi^{0}J/\psi$ Decays

Using a data sample of $(2712.4\pm14.4)\times 10^{6}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we report a high-precision study of the $\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ mass spectrum from $\psi(3686)\rightarrow\pi^{0}\pi^{0}J/\psi$ decays. The enhancement previously observed near the $\pi\pi$ mass threshold in the $\pi^+\pi^-$ channel is confirmed, with a statistical significance exceeding 10$\sigma$. A fit with a Breit-Wigner function yields a mass of $M = 274.3\pm 2.1_{\rm stat.}\pm0.6_{\rm syst.}~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and a width of $\Gamma = 17.1\pm 1.5_{\rm stat.}\pm0.5_{\rm syst.}~{\rm MeV}$, consistent with those from the $\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ channel. By including final-state interactions, we analyze the data using both chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) and QCD multipole expansion (QCDME). While the ChPT model describes the higher-mass region above 0.3 GeV/$c^2$ well, it fails to reproduce the significant threshold enhancement. In contrast, the QCDME model, which incorporates the $S$- and $D$-wave admixture structure of $\psi(3686)$, provides a better description of the full $\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ mass spectrum.
