Peer Revenue An exchange of ideas

'Provision' Floods the Preprint Pile, Up 275%

The word turned up 15 times across arXiv this week against a sleepier four, while Cosmology kept right on climbing in the background.

'Provision' has had a very good run: 15 papers this week carried it, up 275% on its typical four, with no single field claiming credit.

Two finance papers do much of the talking: 'Intraday Forecasting Ability and Liquidity Provision of Institutional Traders' (q-fin.TR) and 'Dynamics of the Liquidity Profile in Concentrated Liquidity Provision: An SPIDE Approach' (q-fin.MF), both rather more interested in liquidity than charity.

Cosmology and Nongalactic Astrophysics (astro-ph.CO), which led this page on 23 October, is still rising: 75 papers this week against its usual 57, up 32%.

Software Engineering (cs.SE) and Information Retrieval (cs.IR) are both up 17% too, suggesting half of arXiv is quietly provisioning for something.

Still unlisted, so holders of liquidity will have to make their own arrangements.

WORD WATCH

'Apps' Turns Up in 16 Papers

16 papers in the past week, against 6 in a usual week.

16 papers used 'apps' in the past week, well over double the 6 of a usual week. Exhibit A: 'A Hybrid Information Flow Analysis Framework for Android Hybrid Apps' (cs.SE).

There's no ticker for it. Somebody should do something about that.

STILL CLIMBING

Cosmology Hasn't Finished What It Started

The field that led this page on 23 October is still running hot, up 32% this week, with three more corners of physics and software keeping pace.

Cosmology and Nongalactic Astrophysics (astro-ph.CO) logged 75 papers this week against its usual 57, up 32%, having already had its turn at the top of this page on 23 October and showing no inclination to step back.

High Energy Physics (Theory) (hep-th) is keeping similar company, up 18% at 153 papers.

Software Engineering (cs.SE) isn't far off either, up 17% at 131, and Information Retrieval (cs.IR) matches it exactly, up 17% at 72.

Four fields, one of them a repeat headliner, all apparently refusing to let the week end quietly.

THE EXCHANGE · $RICCI

Ricci Curves Upward 10.3% as Hamiltonian Falls Back

A sharp morning for geometry and oxides, a rougher one for anything that used to run smoothly.

$RICCI (ricci) led the day's gainers, up 10.3%, with $MLING (multilingual) up 6.4% and $OXIDE (oxide) up 4.3% close behind.

$HAML (hamiltonian) had the worse end of it, down 8.3%, with $SURGL (surgical) off 6.3% and $PRIM (prime) down 1.4% also marked lower.

$AGNT (agent) kept its usual post, with 493 hits in titles and abstracts on the day the bell paid dividends.

FUND DESK · $SURGL

Co-Author Network Leads a Three-Way Clearout

Surgical, hamiltonian and antenna were all shown the door in the past day, in that order of size.

Co-Author Network sold 3,367.15 credits of $SURGL (surgical), the day's largest single move. "Where one word goes, its co-authors follow," the fund said, apparently following this one straight off the shelf.

Citation Cartel Capital followed close behind, selling 3,090.51 credits of $HAML (hamiltonian). "It's rising because we bought it," the fund offered, which sat oddly beside all that selling.

Sabbatical Rotation Fund rounded things out with 2,109.13 credits of $ANTN (antenna). "This year we're in condensed matter," it said, leaving the dish aerials to someone else's sabbatical.

QUIET CORNER

Audio and Speech Processing Drops to a Murmur, Down 47%

eess.AS managed just 34 papers this week against its usual 64, with quantum physics and chemistry keeping similarly low profiles.

Audio and Speech Processing (eess.AS) logged just 34 papers this week, down 47% on its usual 64, the steepest fall on the board.

Quantum Physics (quant-ph) eased 39% to 294 against its usual 478, and Chemical Physics slipped 34% to 31.

Machine Learning (Statistics) (stat.ML) rounded out the hush, down 32% at 74.

Four corners of arXiv, apparently without consulting each other, decided this was a week to say less.

BREAKOUT

Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Pairing Turns Up Everywhere at Once

The word 'moriya' appeared in 15 papers this week against a usual six, mostly in the company of spin liquids.

Mentions of 'moriya' are up 140%: 15 papers this week against a usual six, nearly all of them tangled up with its usual partner, Dzyaloshinskii.

Exhibit one: 'Phase-sensitive quantum-state texture during thermalization of a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Heisenberg dimer' (cond-mat.stat-mech), which commits to the full name without flinching.

Exhibit two: 'Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions in the SU(2) gauge theory of the Shastry-Sutherland Dirac spin liquids' (cond-mat.str-el), closely followed by a cousin paper on the same compound.

Still unlisted, so condensed matter will have to settle for the glory alone.

From the arXiv papers settled on Thursday 22 October. Every figure is taken from the counts.
