Representation Theory Puts On 28% This Week

math.RT took 53 papers against its usual 41, with Hopf algebras and dual pairs doing most of the lifting.

Representation Theory (math.RT) logged 53 papers this week, up 28% on its usual 41. Nothing on the word list moved enough to get a ticker, so the credit goes to the papers themselves.

Elsewhere on arXiv a field climbed further still, but it only just had its turn leading this page, so today's billing stays with the algebraists.

Among the week's arrivals: "Rigid and $\tau$-locally free modules via Taft algebras" and "Drinfeld presentation of affine iquantum groups via iHopf algebras", both firmly in house style.

A third, "$\SL_3$ dual pairs", proves that sometimes the shortest title does the most work.

BREAKOUT · $LIQD

The Week of 'Liquids'

22 papers in the past week, against 8 in a usual week.

Mentions of 'liquids' are up 193%: 22 papers in the past week against a usual 8. The latest example: 'Discrete time liquids' (cond-mat.str-el).

Holders of $LIQD are paid by the mention, so they will not be complaining.

STILL RISING

Astrophysics Instrumentation Keeps Up Its Pace

The field that led this page on 19 October is running 55% above its usual week, with three more corners of physics and maths close behind.

Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics (astro-ph.IM) took 80 papers this week, up 55% on its usual 52, having led this page on 19 October and showing no interest in slowing down since.

Dynamical Systems (math.DS) kept pace at 88 papers, up 21%, and Strongly Correlated Electrons (cond-mat.str-el) matched the mood at 87, up 18%.

Cosmology and Nongalactic Astrophysics (astro-ph.CO) is running just as hot, up 21% at 68 papers, and led its own edition on 23 October.

Four fields, two of them repeat headliners, all refusing to settle down this week.

THE EXCHANGE · $MLING

Multilingual Climbs 6.6% as Antenna Loses Signal

A strong session for language words and curvature, a rougher one for anything with a dish on the roof.

$MLING (multilingual) led the gainers, up 6.6%, with $RICCI (ricci) up 6.3% and $BARYN (baryon) up 4.8% close behind.

$ANTN (antenna) had the worse end of it, down 4.0%, with $MIMO (mimo) off 3.0% and $ISAC (isac) down 2.8% also marked down.

$AGNT (agent) kept its usual post with 471 hits in titles and abstracts on the latest settled day, the figure its dividend is paid on at the bell.

FUND DESK · $ANTN

Sabbatical Rotation Fund Waves Antenna Off, Early Career Fund Buys Young

One fund's sell was another's buying spree, as the desk's youngest portfolio added two freshly signed words.

Sabbatical Rotation Fund sold 2,109.13 credits of $ANTN (antenna), the day's largest single move. "A change of department is as good as a rest," the fund said, apparently ready for a term away from dishes and masts.

Early Career Fund spent 1,701.00 credits bringing in $NUKE (nuclear), then a further 1,680.46 credits on $MONOC (monocular).

"Promising. Could you be younger?" the fund asked of both new arrivals, a question it has never once put to itself.

QUIET CORNER

Audio and Speech Processing Barely Says a Word, Down 51%

eess.AS managed just 32 papers this week against its usual 66, with quantum physics and optics keeping their own counsel too.

Audio and Speech Processing (eess.AS) logged just 32 papers this week, down 51% on its usual 66, the steepest drop on the board this time round.

Quantum Physics (quant-ph) eased 35% to 310 against its usual 478, and Optics (physics.optics) slipped 30% to 66.

Machine Learning (Statistics) (stat.ML) rounded out the hush, down 29% at 77.

Four corners of arXiv, seemingly without consulting one another, decided this was a week to go quiet.

VOCABULARY

'Reflectance' Bounces Back Into Fashion, Up 173%

15 papers reached for the word this week, well above its usual six, from satellite imagery to woven cloth.

Mentions of 'reflectance' climbed 173%: 15 papers this week against a usual 6, spanning remote sensing and material science without much overlap.

"LC-TSRNet: A Land-Cover-Guided Two-Stage Network for Annual MODIS Surface Reflectance Time Series Reconstruction" (cs.CV) leads the charge.

"Monotone Piecewise-Linear Harmonization of Multitemporal Multispectral Surface Reflectance With Unsupervised Deep Multiview Pseudoinvariant Features Learning" (eess.IV) is in no hurry to shorten its own title either.

A third, "RoboCloth: A Large-Scale Real Cloth Material Dataset for Neural Reflectance Reconstruction" (cs.CV), suggests the word has found its way into the laundry room too. Still unlisted, so nobody can yet trade on the shine.

From the arXiv papers settled on Wednesday 21 October. Every figure is taken from the counts.
