BREAKOUT
Everyone Suddenly Wants Better Receivers
The word showed up in 38 papers this week, well over double its usual fourteen, from metasurfaces to quantum optics.
"Receivers" appeared in 38 papers this week, up 176% on its usual 14, a rise that spans radio engineering, quantum communications and radio astronomy without pausing for breath.
Exhibit one: "Structured PARAFAC Channel Estimation for Flexible Intelligent Metasurface Receivers" (eess.SP), which makes the humble receiver sound positively architectural.
Exhibit two: "Quaternion-Valued Adaptive Projection Statistics for Neural Receivers in Dual-Polarization Free-Space Quantum Communications" (eess.SP), a title that needed several adjectives to get through customs.
Astronomers chipped in too, with "A 4-20 GHz Superconducting 90deg Hybrid Using Capacitively Loaded Coupled Lines for 2SB Heterodyne Receivers" (astro-ph.IM). Still unlisted, so nobody can tune in for a profit just yet.
THE STARS
Your Field's Fortune for the Week Ahead
The desk consults the figures so you don't have to look up from your own deadline.
Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics (astro-ph.IM): having already had its moment atop this page on 19 October, the stars say you're not done yet. Ninety-five papers against your usual 48, up 99%, means the telescope is still pointed firmly at success.
Computation and Language (cs.CL): a steady, confident week, 594 papers against your usual 467, up 27%. Your stars suggest another headline is overdue, and you led one as recently as 22 October.
Cosmology and Nongalactic Astrophysics (astro-ph.CO): 67 papers against a usual 55, up 22%. The cosmos favours you this week, much as it did when you topped this page on 23 October.
Dynamical Systems (math.DS): a quieter but genuine rise, 84 papers against your usual 74, up 14%. Nothing dramatic in your chart, but steady progress is still progress.
ON THE BOARD · $FERMI
$FERMI Leads, $ALGO Lags
$FERMI (fermi) led the day's gainers, up 3%, ahead of $HOLO and $STELR. The desk checked: nobody has a good reason, which has never stopped anyone.
At the other end, $ALGO (algorithm) gave up 4%. No obituaries have been filed.
The busiest counter on the latest settled day was $AGNT (agent), with 568 hits in titles and abstracts. Dividends are paid on those counts at the bell.

FUND DESK · $PLSR
Pulsar, Covariate and Torus All Shown the Door
Three funds, three sells, three words that will have to find new homes.
Citation Cartel Capital sold 4,303.49 credits of $PLSR (pulsar), the day's largest single move on the fund desk.
Co-Author Network followed close behind, selling 4,267.22 credits of $CVRT (covariate). "Where one word goes, its co-authors follow," the fund said, apparently following this one straight off the board.
Early Career Fund rounded things out with a sell of 2,746.14 credits of $TORS (torus). "Promising. Could you be younger?" the fund asked, not unreasonably, of a word with several decades of use behind it.
QUIET CORNER
Audio and Speech Processing Turns the Volume Down, Off 56%
eess.AS took just 30 papers this week against its usual 68, with three more corners of arXiv keeping similarly low profiles.
Audio and Speech Processing (eess.AS) logged just 30 papers this week, down 56% on its usual 68, the steepest drop on the board.
Chemical Physics eased 36% to 30 papers, and Quantum Physics (quant-ph) slipped 33% to 320 against its usual 480.
Computers and Society rounded out the hush, down 33% at 28 papers.
Four unrelated corners of arXiv, each apparently deciding independently that this was a week to say less.
VOCABULARY · $LIQD
Mentions of 'Liquids' Up 162%
19 papers in the past week, against 7 in a usual week.
Mentions of 'liquids' are up 162%: 19 papers in the past week against a usual 7. The latest example: 'CRAFT-{\epsilon}: A Conformer-Resolved Atom- and Fragment-based Theory for the Static Relative Permittivity of Pure Organic Liquids' (physics.chem-ph).
It trades as $LIQD. The counts that pay its dividends are going the right way.
