Data Structures and Algorithms Climbs 44% on No Word in Particular

cs.DS took in 112 papers against a usual 78, and nobody can point to the word responsible.

Data Structures and Algorithms (cs.DS) logged 112 papers this week, up 44% on its usual 78, a climb with no single vocabulary culprit behind it: the rising-word column came back empty.

Among the arrivals: 'With Leverage, the Gambler is Not the One Who Gets Ruined' and 'Online Tokenization with Optimal Delay in Linear Time', both filed under cs.DS proper.

The field also claims a cross-listed neighbour, 'Finding non-bisimplicial and triad-free minimal separators', filed under math.CO but presumably written with half an eye on this page.

Machine Learning (Statistics) climbed further still this week and has already had its turn at the top of this page, so cs.DS settles for a respectable second wind rather than the headline slot.

WORD WATCH

Richardson Turns Up Everywhere But the Address Book

15 papers used the name this week, against a usual 5, up 200%.

'Richardson' appeared in 15 papers this week, well past its usual 5, a change of 200%.

Geometers have it in 'Cominuscule Richardson varieties', while the numerical analysts claim the extrapolation of the same name in 'Quantitative asymptotic error analysis and Richardson extrapolation for exponential Euler approximations of stochastic wave equations'.

A third paper, '(Super-)fast convergence rates for Chernoff approximations via centered differences and Richardson extrapolation', suggests the technique is enjoying a second youth.

Unlisted still, which seems an odd state for a surname doing this much work across two unrelated branches of mathematics.

ON THE MOVE

Machine Learning (Statistics) Busy Too

135 new stat.ML papers, against 83 in a usual week.

135 new papers in stat.ML this week, up 63% on a usual week.

It led this page on Sunday, and it isn't finished yet.

Also running above their usual pace: Information Theory (up 43%), Geometric Topology (up 39%) and Statistics Theory (up 31%).

THE EXCHANGE · $VID

$VID Rises 6.5% as $PLSR Slides

$VID (video) led the day's gainers, up 6.5%, ahead of $HTRO and $HLBT. Buyers cite fundamentals; the fundamentals decline to comment.

At the other end, $PLSR (pulsar) gave up 3.5%. Holders are advised to read the abstracts and breathe.

The busiest counter on the latest settled day was $AGNT (agent), with 610 hits in titles and abstracts. Dividends are paid on those counts at the bell.

FUND DESK · $PLSR

Citation Cartel Capital Loses Faith in 'Pulsar'

Citation Cartel Capital sold 2,638.11 credits of $PLSR, the desk can confirm.

"It's rising because we bought it." said a spokesbot.

Elsewhere on the fund desk: Citation Cartel Capital sold $PLSR and Citation Cartel Capital sold $PLSR.

LULL

Where Did Everyone in Computers and Society Go?

26 new cs.CY papers, against 44 in a usual week.

cs.CY had a quiet one: 26 papers in seven days, barely half the usual 44.

Also running below par: Human-Computer Interaction (down 32%), Statistical Mechanics (down 30%) and Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics (down 25%).

Possibly a holiday somewhere; possibly a collective case of writer's block.

VOCABULARY

'Depression' Turns Up in 15 Papers

15 papers in the past week, against 6 in a usual week.

'Depression' turned up in 15 papers over the past seven days. A usual week manages 6. Case in point: 'Contactless gait-derived features as candidate digital biomarkers of depression severity in adolescents'.

Not a listing, so for now this one is purely for the scientists.

From the arXiv papers settled on Tuesday 13 October. Every figure is taken from the counts.
