Multiagent Systems Grows a Field of Delegates, Up 39%

cs.MA logged 40 papers against its usual 29, with the robots apparently now delegating to other robots.

Multiagent Systems (cs.MA) took in 40 papers against its usual 29, a rise of 39%. The statisticians next door in Machine Learning (Statistics) moved faster still and already had their turn leading this page.

Among the week's arrivals: 'Persistent LLM Orchestration of Heterogeneous Robot Teams via Partial Delegation to Multi-Agent Protocols', filed under cs.MA itself.

Elsewhere the field spilled into its neighbours: 'Continuous Risk-Based Scheduling for Food Safety Inspection: Integrating Historical Decay with Event-Driven Consumer Review Signals' (cs.AI) and 'Conflict-Aware Autonomous Resource Orchestration for 5G Edge Slicing Using Multi-Agent Systems and LLMs' (cs.NI).

No single word is driving the surge this time. Apparently the agents simply decided, among themselves, to submit more.

WORD WATCH

'Isotropy' Turns Up in Every Direction at Once

18 papers used the word this week, against a usual 6, a rise of 188%.

'Isotropy' appeared in 18 papers, well above its usual 6, up 188%. See 'Strongly isotropy irreducible spaces whose Laplacians have all their eigenspaces irreducible' (math.DG).

It also turns up somewhere less expected: 'On the Isotropy Groups of Locally Finite Derivations of Laurent Polynomial Algebras' (math.AC).

No ticker trades on it, which for a word this symmetrically distributed seems almost careless.

Statistics Wing of Machine Learning Won't Quiet Down

stat.ML led this page on 11 October and is still running hot, up 77% on its usual pace.

Machine Learning (Statistics) took in 132 papers against its usual 74, up 77%, the sharpest climb of any field and a repeat performance after leading this page on 11 October.

It isn't alone. Networking ran 32% above its usual pace at 61 papers, and Software Engineering rose 31% to 136.

Machine Learning (cs.LG) itself, which led this page on 8 October, still shows 1,062 papers against its usual 838, up 27%. Whatever is happening, it is happening everywhere at once.

MARKETS · $ISAC

Isac Edges Ahead as Insulator and Quantum Both Slip

A quiet day of small moves, with the usual word keeping its usual post at the top of the hits table.

$ISAC (isac) led the day's gainers, up 3.2%, with $ESTM (estimator) close behind at 3.1% and $DSTL (distillation) up 2.0%.

On the other side, $INSL (insulator) fell 2.5%, $QNTM (quantum) dropped 2.0%, and $ALGO (algorithm) eased 1.0%. Nobody on the desk pretends to know why insulators had a worse day than algorithms.

Underneath it all, $AGNT (agent) kept its familiar post, clocking 328 hits on the latest settled day, the figure its dividend is paid on.

FUND DESK · $UNTY

Citation Cartel Capital Sells Unitary, Buys Pulsar

The fund's usual pattern held, selling one favourite to buy another, while Sabbatical Rotation Fund wandered back from leave.

Citation Cartel Capital sold 4,770.39 credits of $UNTY, then turned around and bought 1,652.99 credits of $PLSR.

"We'll cite yours if you cite ours," the fund offered, by way of explaining why one word goes out the door while another comes in.

Sabbatical Rotation Fund, meanwhile, bought 1,649.54 credits of $ESTM. "A change of department is as good as a rest," the fund said, apparently having decided estimators count as condensed matter this year.

TITLE OF THE DAY

Today's Title to Savour: Twisted Equations and Palindrome Length

From math.GR, a title that reads the same whichever way you parse it.

The desk's pick from today's intake is 'Twisted Equations and Palindrome Length', filed under math.GR.

A title that is, itself, almost a palindrome of ambition: equations twisted, lengths palindromic, group theorists presumably delighted.

LOW PRESSURE

Statistical Mechanics Cools Off, Down 34%

40 papers landed against its usual 61, with three more fields keeping similarly quiet company.

Statistical Mechanics (cond-mat.stat-mech) took in just 40 papers, down 34% on its usual 61.

Computers and Society (cs.CY) wasn't far behind, down 28% at 31 papers, and Rings and Algebras (math.RA) eased 22% to 32.

Solar and Stellar Astrophysics (astro-ph.SR) rounds out the quiet corner, down 22% at 56 papers.

Four fields content to let the rest of arXiv make the noise this week.

From the arXiv papers settled on Saturday 10 October. Every figure is taken from the counts.
