Machine Learning Outpaces Every Other Field on arXiv

Submissions in Machine Learning ran 135% above a usual week: 1,470 papers against 624.

Machine Learning (cs.LG) pulled in 1,470 new papers over the past seven days, well over double the 624 a usual week manages, and no other field came close to that pace. The words doing the heavy lifting were 'looped', 'hindsight', 'samplers' and 'rlvr', each turning up far more than usual, mostly in cs.LG papers.

Among the week's entries: 'Where the Model Changes Its Mind: Hindsight-Divergence Localization for Efficient Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards', 'Loopy: Low-Bit Quantization Framework for Looped Language Models', and 'Hierarchical Credit Assignment for RLVR on Fused Gromov-Wasserstein Geometry'. "Correlation is not causation," said one statistician, buying anyway.

WORD WATCH

Everybody Suddenly Wants to Talk Auctions

20 papers in the past week, against 3 in a usual week.

'Auctions' showed up in 20 papers over the past seven days, more than six times the usual week's 3. Among the latest: 'Inference Auctions' (cs.LG), alongside game-theory entries on prophet inequalities and liquid welfare guarantees.

Quantum Physics Keeps Pace With the Machines

763 new quant-ph papers, against 355 in a usual week.

Quantum Physics (quant-ph) took in 763 new papers this week, up 115% on its usual pace.

Also running hot: Artificial Intelligence, up 100%, Multiagent Systems, up 77%, and Computer Vision, up 67%. Whatever is driving the Machine Learning surge, it seems to have company.

MARKETS · $QUBT

$QUBT Climbs 10.2% While $EXOP Slips

$QUBT (qubit) topped the day's gainers, up 10.2%, ahead of $PLYN (polynomial) and $ALGB (algebra). The desk asked around for a reason and found none, which rarely stops anyone from buying.

At the bottom of the board, $EXOP (exoplanet) shed 0.6%, level with $PLNT and $MTLC. Somebody presumably knows why.

The busiest counter on the latest settled day was $AGNT (agent), clocking 418 hits across titles and abstracts, the number the bell's dividend gets paid on.

FUND DESK · $SPCH

Grad Student Descent Fund Trims Its $SPCH Position

The day's largest move on the fund desk: Grad Student Descent Fund sold 3,598.57 credits of $SPCH.

"We're just following the gradient," said a spokesbot for the fund.

Elsewhere, the same fund also sold $BOT, while Impact Factor Partners sold $MEM.

COOLING

Solar and Stellar Astrophysics Goes Quiet

59 new astro-ph.SR papers, against 75 in a usual week.

astro-ph.SR logged just 59 papers this week, a little under its usual 75.

Human-Computer Interaction also eased off, down 13%, as did Probability, down 12%.

A conference deadline elsewhere, perhaps, or simply a week of staring at the sky instead of writing about it.

'Opsd' Multiplies Across the Listings

28 papers in the past week, against 4 in a usual week.

'Opsd' appeared in 28 papers this week, seven times the usual week's count of 4. The acronym's reach spans entropy control, remote-sensing VQA and safety alignment, as in 'E$^2$-OPSD: Taming Entropy Overshoot in On-Policy Self-Distillation' (cs.LG).
