Data Structures and Algorithms Cuts a Path, Up 83%

cs.DS posted the sharpest rise on the board, and no single word gets the credit.

Data Structures and Algorithms (cs.DS) took in 163 papers, up 83% from a typical 89, the sharpest climb of any field tracked today, and the rising-words list came back empty.

'An Integrality-Gap Lower Bound of 1.2325 for Minimum Multiway Cut' keeps the week's precision refreshingly specific.

'A Sharp Additive Bound for the Threshold Rule in Repeated Rent-or-Buy' proves economists aren't the only ones deciding when to buy.

'Flow-Optimal Separators for Minor-Free and Induced-Minor-Free Graphs in Linear Time via Follow the Regularized Leader' closes it out, a title that is itself a small algorithm.

WORD WATCH

Bursty Returns, Now 19 Papers, Up 230%

Star formation and network traffic still can't settle into a steady rhythm.

Mentions of 'bursty' rose 230%, found in 19 papers compared with a typical six, a pace that outlasts most deadlines.

'How bursty star formation shapes spectral diversity at high redshifts: breaking degeneracies in early galaxy formation' (astro-ph.GA) treats galaxies as creatures of mood.

'J-PAS: Exploring the connection between local environment and the triggering of bursty star formation in Extreme Emission Line Galaxies' (astro-ph.GA) finds the same temperament in a different survey.

'MATE: Multi-Agent Traffic Engineering for Topology-Aware Distributed SRv6 Scheduling under Bursty Traffic' (cs.NI) shows routers keep the same erratic habits as stars.

Still no ticker. The word trades on reputation alone, and reputation doesn't pay a dividend.

ON THE MOVE

Computational Complexity Picks Up the Pace

48 new cs.CC papers, against 27 in a usual week.

48 new papers in cs.CC this week, up 78% on a usual week.

It led this page yesterday, and it isn't finished yet.

Also running above their usual pace: Logic in Computer Science (up 68%), Mathematical Physics (up 58%) and Image and Video Processing (up 49%).

THE EXCHANGE · $CVRT

Covariate Leads Gainers, Mimo Takes the Day's Worst Fall

A tidy climb for statistical control variables, a rough one for multi-antenna systems.

$CVRT (covariate) led the day's gainers, up 5.4%, with $ANTN (antenna) up 3.9% and $SPIN (spin) up 1.3% also higher.

$MIMO (mimo) took the day's worst tumble, down 9.1%, with $LEPTN (lepton) off 5.3% and $HMND (humanoid) down 0.7% also lower.

$AGNT (agent) was the busiest counter on the latest settled day, with 523 hits across titles and summaries.

TRANSFER WINDOW · $MIMO

Mimo Shown the Door, Two Suitors Make It Official

Co-Author Network and Citation Cartel Capital both queued up to move the same word on within a single day.

Mimo's exit looks all but confirmed this evening, with Co-Author Network believed to have pushed through the day's largest switch, a deal worth 4,771.36 credits.

"Mimo's co-authors were already halfway out the door; we just carried the boxes," a fund insider said, filing the move as routine.

Citation Cartel Capital arrived minutes later with a deal of its own, worth 4,758.20 credits. "We saw the queue and joined it, going the other way," a spokesbot offered.

The same fund returned for a second switch worth 4,338.03 credits before the day was out. Sources close to the fund insist this was simply tidying up, not a fire sale.

TITLE OF THE DAY

Today's Title: Bang-Bang Theory

Spotted in econ.TH, a title that commits fully to its own drama.

Spotted among the latest day's papers, in econ.TH: "Bang-Bang Correlation Sensitivity: A Local-to-Global Dichotomy for Correlation Preference".

No fireworks promised beyond the title itself, but it is, undeniably, a title that announces its arrival.

QUIET CORNER

Sound Falls Quiet, Down 33%, With Company in the Hush

cs.SD leads a soft patch this week, joined by speech, language and statistical learning.

Sound (cs.SD) took in 56 papers, down 33% from a typical 84, the steepest fall among the fields tracked.

Audio and Speech Processing (eess.AS) eased almost as far, down 32% to 31.

Computation & Language (cs.CL) slipped by the same margin, down 32% to 340.

Machine Learning (Statistics) (stat.ML) rounded out the hush, down 28% at 76, apparently content to let someone else fill this week's listings.
