Computation and Language Swells 32% on Korean and Reddit

The language-processing section posted 596 submissions this cycle against a normal 452, and a handful of fresh words are doing the heavy lifting.

Computation and Language (cs.CL) logged 596 submissions this cycle, up 32% on its normal 452, driven by a vocabulary surge rather than any single hot topic.

The rising words tell the story: korean, reply, reddit and commonsense are all turning up more often than usual, an odd combination for one dinner party.

Among the arrivals: 'Quality-Controlled Reply and Summary Data for Post-Training Small Language Models in AI Call-Screening Agents', 'Beyond Surface Cues: Robust LLM-Generated Korean Text Detection' and 'Thunder-DeID+: Boundary-Aware Korean De-identification from Court Judgments to Broader Sensitive Documents'.

Another field climbed further still this cycle, but it has already had its turn leading this page, so today's headline goes to the language desk.

VOCABULARY

'Gaseous' Floats to the Top of arXiv's Word Count

Sixteen papers reached for the word across the week, nearly four times its normal pace.

'Gaseous' appeared in 16 papers across the week, up 256% on its normal 4, a reminder that astrophysics still loves a good disk.

Exhibit A: 'HD 152384: A 5 Myr old debris disk system showing a gaseous ring of refractory elements at the dust sublimation radius' (astro-ph.SR).

Exhibit B: 'On the Orbital Evolution of Giant Planet Pair Embedded in a Gaseous Disk. III. simultaneous gas accretion and the final mass ratio' (astro-ph.EP).

Still unlisted, so holders of hot air have nowhere to put their money yet.

ALSO RISING

Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics Busy Too

95 new astro-ph.IM papers, against 50 in a usual week.

Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics (astro-ph.IM) took 95 papers in the past week against a usual 50, up 90%.

It led this page on Monday, and it isn't finished yet.

Also running above their usual pace: Data Structures and Algorithms (up 36%), Geometric Topology (up 27%) and Solar and Stellar Astrophysics (up 26%).

THE EXCHANGE · $ELLIP

Elliptic Climbs 7.7% as Nucleus Slips

A strong morning for curves and a rough one for atomic cores, with language still topping the dividend table.

$ELLIP (elliptic) led the gainers, up 7.7%, with $HAML (hamiltonian) up 3.9% and $PRIMO (primordial) up 3.2% close behind.

$NUCL (nucleus) had the worse end of it, down 3.0%, with $MTLC (metallicity) off 2.8% and $MTRX (matrix) down 2.5%.

$LANG (language) kept its usual post with 258 hits on the latest settled day, the figure its dividend is paid on at the bell.

FUND DESK · $CELL

Citation Cartel Capital Clears Out Cell and Covariate in One Sitting

The crowd follower sold two words back to back, while the Grad Student Descent Fund let go of distillation too.

Citation Cartel Capital sold 4,669.19 credits of $CELL, then 4,506.96 credits of $CVRT, two of the day's larger moves.

"Everyone's buying it, so we are too," said a fund representative, which sat oddly beside all that selling.

Grad Student Descent Fund, meanwhile, sold 2,726.37 credits of $DSTL. "Loss is going down, so we bought more," it said, apparently referring to a different trade entirely.

QUIET CORNER

Audio and Speech Processing Goes Almost Silent, Down 59%

eess.AS managed just 28 submissions across the week against a normal 69, with three more fields keeping their voices down too.

Audio and Speech Processing (eess.AS) logged just 28 submissions across the week, down 59% on its normal 69, the steepest drop on the board.

Computers and Society kept pace at 29 submissions, down 31% on its normal 42.

Quantum Physics eased 30% to 336, and Human-Computer Interaction matched the mood, down 29% at 78 against a normal 110.

Four corners of arXiv apparently deciding, independently, that silence was this week's theme.

THE COURTS

Richardson Appears Before arXiv, Charged With Excessive Repetition

The surname faced the bench after turning up in 17 papers across the week, more than three times its normal 5.

Richardson appeared before arXiv this morning, charged with turning up in 17 papers across the week, against a normal 5, a rise of 240%.

The prosecution cited 'Hypercube Richardson varieties from magic words' and 'Cominuscule Richardson varieties' as evidence of repeat offending in geometry.

The defence countered with 'Quantitative asymptotic error analysis and Richardson extrapolation for exponential Euler approximations of stochastic wave equations', arguing this was an entirely different Richardson, doing numerical analysis.

The bench noted that no ticker has yet been issued for the defendant, and adjourned without bail, the word being neither confined nor contained.
